The NYR got a much needed victory last night in Seattle over the Kracken. Taken as a whole, it was the most impressive win they’ve had recently.
The big difference in this game was even though the team started slow offensively, they put out a pretty good defensive effort in front of their goalie. Backchecking has been awol this season but was found again last night!
As the game progressed, the NYR began to forecheck a lot more which developed into more offensive zone time.
The third line did not miss a beat without the injured Chytil. They were aggressive throughout and logged about 15 minutes TOI. Cuylle led the team with 10 hits.
Also notable last night were the fouth line, all getting at least 10 minutes TOI. Carrick was 7/8 at the dot (Trocheck 11/16).
None of this would have been possible without the play of the ageless wonder Quick in goal, claiming his first back to back start shutouts since 2011. Can’t recall the last time a NYR goalie accomplished the same, perhaps Valiquette in 07/08?
The Ranger goals were by Lafreniere (7) at 17:30 of the second on a beautiful cross ice pass from Panarin. Jones got his first of the season assisted by Cuylle and Kakko at 2:58 of the third.
Up next, the Canucks, Tuesday at 7:00 PM PST in Vancouver.

Posted from the tire shop waiting to get the snows on! Any mistakes 🤷
Everything checks out. Beezle😉
best game for Miller in quite a while
3rd and 4th lines solid and eating into Zibnanajad line ice time… I hope that motivates them
On Post game, they did mention Raanta and Valley did it. And Talbot did it twice!
Great road game. Are they playing Jones to showcase him for a trade? Because he has been pretty solid for the last few games with Schneider.
reports DeVito to start for Giants!
so none of the high priced goalies did? Hmm
All around better effort, I’m semi happy. Zibanejad is still MIA.
I they were specifically talking about the backups. Who tends to get the easier starts.
But maybe that was just to leave the frontups of the hook?
Good time to get back to basics and pile up wins against non-playoff teams. Rangers in WC1 with a decent little lead over the Bruns.
Some real tests coming up in the rest of western Canada, eh?
as a wildcard scary thought. could play fla 1st rd
Quick is the real argument about paying Igor $10+ per. Obv he’s a local boy, HoF goalie and those don’t grow on trees but this guy left LA and nobody else wanted him.
Don’t believe they are showcasing Jones; need all bodies as last season proved. Relatively healthy save for Flip and Lindy which isn’t real surprising. Oh, and Meeka’s extended malaise…
Hopefully Kraken fall out of playoff picture …both Gourde and Tanev UFAs …. someone like Tanev could breathe some life into Zibanajad line
Not convinced that Jonesy will ever light up my life, but more impressed with his little self each game lately.
Miller beaten badly again and again, each season, every season, chasing from behind, and Sam sez ; ‘Oh, great play by Miller!’ What an unabashed schnoz and a schnorrer.
Nitwit dizzo blondie asking Quickie what he likes for breakfast and a snack. Begone!
Appreciate Beez listing Zebras and their personality quirks, history and tendencies. Would love to see ice-time posted here after each game.
Dolan, doofus as he often is, wants a Cup. He’s already richer than God.
If Dolan wants a cup he better find a way to replace Zibanejad and Miller. Maybe find two guys with giblets that can actually play their position with authority.
NYR are 3rd in the conference by pt%, though those numbers can still change quickly so few games played. Devils must get April off, have already played 21 games.
A lot of us thought Torts talked too much chit. Now some of us miss that. This is a bland group and Drury best take note and supply some playable personality.
Think the west will be a slog again this season, even SJS and CHI are looking a little better than last year. Probably be more buyers from that conf and sellers from the east
Tanev!
Rangers 2, Seattle 0
Miller: -3
But on a serious note, I’m beginning to think Miller’s issues are in the grey matter. Remember he took some time away from the team last year for undisclosed reasons and said he wasn’t in a good place.
That said, he had a pretty decent showing last night. Here’s hoping he can replicate nights like last night moving forward.
funny Craig
minus 3!!!! Lol
So.. our 26yr old memories are not so sharp, eh?
regular season back to back start shutouts
Igor 3/9/24, 3/12/24 vs STL and CAR
Igor 1/2/22, 1/13/22 vs TBL, SJS *
Igor 04/13/21, 04/15/21 vs NJD, NJD
Henrik – none unless I missed it.
Richter 10/27/98, 10/30/98 vs BUF, CAR
Richter 11/29/01, 12/02/01 vs CAR, TBL
* Georgiev got four starts in between those two games
I didn’t know Tanev was a UFA. I was thinking last night that he might be a good fit for the Rangers, but the big question is at what cost? Since they don’t have any 2nd or 3rd round picks in next couple of years, that would probably mean trading Othmann or Perrault. I don’t think that would be a good move for a rental.
I believe Lundqvist did in 2017 in the playoffs against the craps.
Jimmy Krack Corn
Yes but amazing he did not have any back to backs in regular season
With Friedman saying the salary cap could go up to $95 million or more, does Igor’s salary request go up with it? Will he want $14 million come July 1st?
Loved Lundqvist. But his cap % was a problem Drury saw first hand as asst GM
I don’t think he goes down that road and many fans can understand that position if he takes it
Mika is a very long COVID victim.
Too bad he had to retire a Washington Capital
Nyet! Long walk meet short pier. I mean, he can ask for 20 and some fans may think that’s a bargain. Game is won out front on the forward lines presuming the D can get them the puck once every so often.
If they pay Igor $11MM and the cap goes to $95MM he’s at 11.5% of the cap. Can they live with that?
Sounds from all accounts like Igor can’t though
11M makes him highest paid goalie –if its not good enough let him walk …they can still bring back the goalie whisperer
I think Drury eventually gives in and gives Shesterkin what he wants. If he doesn’t, to me, two of the most logical landing spots for him, are Vegas, and Colorado. Colorado would actually be a very interesting team to deal with trade wise for Shesterkin. Eichel is a UFA after 25/26. They have Middlestat, Stone, and Karlson down the middle, in addition to Eichel. Shesterkin, and Eichel as the center piece in a hypothetical trade.
vegas has advantage of no state tax
per larry
Filip Chytil did not suffer a concussion and will join Rangers in Calgary, industry sources have told The Post. Chytil, examined by specialists, is considered “day to day,” and may not jump right back into lineup.
did I miss something?
is Benoit Allair not still the goalie coach
consultant now. not day to day anymore
ah. I did miss something

Off topic did Pat Verbeek hugely overplay his hand about Vatrano? 2 goals this year. Good thing Drury didn’t go pay the roster player + top prospect + high draft pick or whatever the crazy ask was last season. And good thing Vatrano so excited about staying the Ducks because it looks like he’ll be playing there for the time being.
Play GM yourself – give Igor 11 or 12M and then fill out what you can spend on the D and F. Attached is based on a 92 cap. Even if it bumps to 95, one should not assume cap will go up 7M per year after that. Red are Cuylle (guess) and note that Schneider will be due after next season. Looking at 1/2C salaries, hard to imagine putting one in for less than Trocheck so just left his figure in.
Good news, though all of that is predicated by the player being very honest during the exams/testing.
Got a kick out of Twerkin on bench smiling and rubbing Jonesie’s head after his goal. Camaraderie.
Not a concussion. It’s just an undefined neurological injury that prevent him from playing hockey. Sounds great!
Consultants don’t count against the cap…Rangers can pay Benoit more to work with the next goalie as needed
If Cheat Ill is flying to Calgary, he’s presumably good to go. Logic.
If Shesty balks at 11 Mil, trade him to Cleveland where he will find out that there is no NHL team extant.
Is there a difference between a hat trick and a cap trick?
I think the Ducks moved him to the left side, AFAIK he’s mostly played RW so perhaps that is part of it?
Also, do not forget the intangibles (and at $3.5 per) – led his teams forwards in hits (6.2 per 60) and blocks (3.1 per 60) last season. Those are both slightly higher than Trocheck. And we know from his brief time in NY that he does backcheck.
whose the 4.5 for 2nd line lw
no dead money from trades?
looks like 8, 20, 24 and 55 gone at minimum?
I bet he’s great in the locker room too. But that asking trade price was definitely the 37 goal player price, not the 14 goal player with good intangibles price
The figures in grey are current contracts. The two in red are Cuylee w/ bump and Schneider.
All others are pure speculation.
don’t bid against ourselves
No reason to go north of 11mil. Bottom team with cap space won’t pay that and risk running in the red
Top team with no cap space can’t pay it
Vegas could …just send another high priced player to Dr Nick Riviera and put them on LTIR until playoffs
Miller should be ashamed of himself not be able to concuss Chytil with that head shot, pathetic and weak.
10pm start tonight. 😴 🥱
Not sure what is harder. Staying awake or waking up the next morning.
vegas could offer less and shesty would bring home more. no state tax
plus… its a dry heat

High Dr Nick!
Hey, kids. Late game tonight. Any of you up for a game recap? Shoot me an email (odessitbk@msn.com) if you’re able/wish to do it. Thanks in advance.
my bedtime is around the time they finish singing the second anthem!
Too bad it’s not KA Miller.
nice article in hockey news about Matt rempe. Maybe he can become a hockey player.
Norm abadons us in our time of sleep..er need!
Bruins seek Head Coach. Sacco in as interim.
Norm gearing up with Listerine throatbaths for his annual Basso performance in the Messiah.
Old Ranger Brain Trust: ‘We could see back in ’17 that his personality was such that he’d need a couple days off 7 or 8 years down the road. That’s why we got rid of him.’
(referencing JT Miller, of course)
Dude’s just 31. Seems like he should be 44. Time don’t fly like it yoosed to.
Is it time yet? What are they waiting for! Damn west coasters!
