Rangers 2, Mallards 1

Published by

A better effort at the Garden last night saw the Rangers hold on for a 2-1 victory over Anaheim. Even so, defensively the team still has a lot of work to do.

“Nice to get the win. Nice to get a goal,” Lindgren said. “We still gave up, maybe, too many chances. ‘Quicky’ had to make too many highlight-reel saves. But all in all, I thought it was a good effort by us.”

Lindgren (1) opened the scoring at 04:13 of the third period, his first of the season. Cuylle (2) required two goals to get one to count, the first being disallowed as the play was offside. The second, at 11:53 was a deflection off his skate of a Kakko shot. Review allowed the goal (shocking!) The Ducks would cut the score in half on a goal by Zellweger (1) at 12:38 to make it 2-1 NYR but that was all the scoring on this night.

Up next, Washington, Tuesday night at 7:30 PM EDT at Capital One Arena. Coverage on ESPN

Coolio and Schneider have taken the next step; very important for this team to get to the next level.

was at game and Flip has decided to backcheck after 8 years in the league. That line is as fun to watch in the ozone as dreadful to watch in Dzone.

Edstrom is very solid, esp on Forecheck and on the wall for a big guy. Sam Carrick is a man. Came back after that hit like nothing happened.

Ducks decided to play both ends of the ice but still NYR had a ton of quality scoring chances. Quickie making how much? Asking for a friend…

    Just win, baby.

What happened to Dajenabiz? He has become a shadow, a mist, a specter of whatever his former self actually was.

Schneider lost quite a bit of TOI, anchored to Jones. I don’t understand the Jones infatuation. Trade him, waive him, I don’t care. Just get him out of the way so the D can move forward.

The only possible explanation is Drury feels he needs an insurance policy on Fox, that Jones is “Fox light”. It really is ridiculous that they did not move him over the summer and honstly it is unfair to the player as well. Move him to a lesser team for some picks.

If the plan is to trade Jones they need to give him ice time to showcase him. PP time too since that is where his skills shine best.

I was at a party last night, wondering how Zegras played? The ankle injury should be well in the past now. Things that have been raised in the past are that he is not willing to play defensively and that he takes a lot of stupid/lazy penalties.

Odd night at the dots – Tro a horrible 4/17, Fabbri went 8/10, the only two he lost were to… Chytil! Former Ranger Stromeo smoked, 5/14.

More than a few guys around here are finally getting it about Miller the Pillar. Kudos for their courage and honesty.

Meant to share this yesterday, but in the last question here, you’ll hear Hartford coach Grant Potulny note that #NYR prospect Brennan Othmann is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with an upper-body injury.

My guess is Jones is insurance if they can’t or don’t want to work out a deal with Miller. Mancini could potentially be the Trouba replacement. They’re going to need cap space as early as next year, so those two could make sense. I’m not saying it’s ideal, but it’s an option.

I’d also like to see Jones on the PP when he plays, instead of Miller who has never really had any success in the role.

  15. Beezle Avatar
    Beezle

Agree on the PP. But I think Schneider is the Trouba replacement, Mancini the Schneider replacement?

rangers need a stay home clearing tough guy defensemen to replace the Scare Crow on ice K’andre giveaway Miller.

  17. hockey721 Avatar

“as dreadful to watch in Dzone”

You say this, yet that line with 60% defensive starts at even strength has yet to be on ice for a goal against.

And of the four lines, the Chytil line also has the lowest expected goals against per 60 minutes. It’s actually second lowest in the league for xGoals against per 60 minutes for lines with 75 minutes or more.

Will Cuylle leads the league in plus/minus at +10.

that’s a real indictment (of k’andre, and of management; not of Jones) if 5’10 170lb Zac Jones is considered a replacement for 6’5 210lb k’andre, but I wouldn’t even doubt it

Jones playing does enhance his trade value, but the team still needs to improve and keep winning I don’t expect they’ll yank anyone who gets real PP to make room for him – either a GM will pay for what he *could* bring to the power play, a la Nils, or won’t? Huge surprise if lightning strikes twice for that kind of trade though!

yes, but they are not matched up against the other teams top 6.

Zegras on a line with McTzvidh and Killeen had some solid Ozone play; Quickie robbed him on a deflection in front.

Zegras looks as big as Jones out there

Miller’s main problem is that his confidence to talent ratio is too high. Since the coaching staff won’t sit him, he will never learn.

I don’t know if Miller is coachable or if they have tried. His hockey IQ is not great but he could get better maybe by watching a lot of video. He has skills. I wonder if he is committed to getting better.

Wolfpack plays mostly on the weekends so he can be sent down to get ice time and still play in some Ranger games during the week.

Until the Rangers can respond to this nonsense they won’t get by Panthers. They need to either run Bobrovsky or grab Reinhart or Barkov and pound them.

very likely that we’ll lose before we play fla again in playoffs. even to a more talented team like the devs.

rangers were all caught up in 90s trying to match the flyers. traded zubov in deal with pitt for samuelsson. regretted that for a decade. forget about the 2 forwards in the deal. both non events at that point in their career.

Saw an xGF/GA chart showing 3rd line in upper right; believe best in league and just below them on the chart was my fav new NYRer Sam the man Carrick. Looking like another great vet pickup by Dreary

  38. bobbyo2019 Avatar
    bobbyo2019

Rangers talent matches up with anyone in league…the Panthers are the ones in the way…they need to bring in a few players with balls

  39. Alex Avatar

like i said very likely we lose in metro playoffs. you’re making a big assumption that we’ll automatically win 2 series.

  40. Beezle Avatar

At this stage I’m not worried about Derbils (or not not worried). Once we hit March it will be a lot more obvious which teams are for real and which would be the most difficult match ups against NYR.

nedved for robitaille. nedved of course went on to score 170 points over two seasons in PIT, but Zubov was afraid playing against the Legion of Doom in the playoffs so Smith had to trade him. at least the heart was in the right place!

  44. wwpd Avatar

Vesey back in a full contact jersey. NYR really have a wealth of options for the 4th line, must keep Lav up at night 😉

Compare this to the Rempe goalie interference. What a joke.

So they recall Rempe for the possible donnybrook. If that is all this kid means to the Rangers he should go home and get a college degree and maintain his cognitive function.

I think the kid can be a player, Laviolette thinks he is nothing more than a meat bag. Shame.

love watching Rempe play. At least you know he will give an effort. Would be very happy with him playing more then 10 minutes.no fights and a Rangers win.

  50. cooscoos Avatar

Mollie over-emphasizes Rempe’s size (6’8 and a half), then criticizes coaches for utilizing his size as a deterrent/pugilist. He wouldn’t be anywhere near MSG (or maybe even the AHL) were he the same Rempe, but 5’10. Who’s kidding whom here?

  51. Old Ranger Fan Avatar
    Old Ranger Fan

I’m ok with Rempe playing a few games with the Rangers and spending every weekend playing games with the wolfpack. He should also be spending time with the Ranger skills coaches. He has a lot to learn and seems like a willing pupil.

  52. bobbyo2019 Avatar
    bobbyo2019

Like Remper and what he brings but has the 4th line been a problem this season so far? They have been solid

  53. SN Avatar
    SN

They win when he plays, they win when he doesn’t play except vs Panthers; Craps have at least 3 guys who throw hands; so good to have him out there instead of Johnny Bag of Donuts.

Edstrom rarely gets pinned against the boards where tall guys can lose leverage with long legs; keeps stance wide in 50/50 battles, using his reach and stick to dislodge pucks

  54. cooscoos Avatar
    cooscoos

Mollie has often a very upper-body injury not requiring a face-shield.
