The NYR continued their mysterious ways of winning last night in Toronto by a final score of 4-1. Though outshot 35-29, Shesterkin managed to stop all but one, bailing out some mixed defensive play and saving what was a nail biter until very late in the game.
The only scoring in the first period was by Lafreniere (3) at 11:44 assisted by Trocheck and Mancini. The second period saw Kreider (4) continuing his ways of last season, taking a pass from huggy twin Zibanejad at the doorstep and banging it home. Smith got a secondary assist, all at the 09:08 mark.
The third period saw the Rangers on their heels a bit after Matthews (2) gave Toronto life at just the 03:40 mark. Somehow the Rangers made it to Chinese Fireplace time still leading 2-1 after which Kreider (5) and Panarin (6) would both score on the empty net (19:00 and 19:46).
In a good sign, the Rangers only took three penalties in this game. The fourth line was out for just shy of 8 minutes and the third between 12 (Chytil) and 14 (Cuylle) so also slightly better TOI balance, Trocheck was only out 22:45 for this one!
Up next, Les Habs, Tuesday night at 7:15 PM EDT at La Centre Belle and on MSG.

a win in Canada …on a Saturday night ..is a good win
Lots of hairy moments for the Rangers in the defensive zone last night. Shesterkin saved their bacon all night….. again. At this rate their going to wear him out….I know I know I was exhausted just watching him.
It’s not on the scoresheet but Mancini made some very poised blue line play to keep the puck alive leading to the game winner.
Mancini is music to my ears.
the Manziere didn’t play a shift past the halfway of the third though. When lindgren is back I’d thought it’s a gimme that Ruhwedal the one that goes to waivers, but now it makes me wonder?
hope boom boom Mancini is here to stay
It’s pretty quiet here. Maybe everyone is gearing up for the World Series. Question: Is this the year when the wheels finally fall off for the Pens?
All the way off. But Bettman will find a way to save the sinking ship.
Busto day to day with upper body injury.
Laf being out is not good. If he misses game in Montreal, then we know he is really hurt, since he doesn’t want to miss in the place that he grew up in.

2020 draft
#NYR coach Peter Laviolette won’t say anything about the status of Alexis Lafrenière or Ryan Lindgren for tomorrow’s game vs. Canadiens
This gets old and in general, the NHL hide everything approach. No other sport goes to such lengths and with dubious if any real benefits.
colin on twitter showed laffy skating and shooting after practice
Heads may explode:
Apparently there are some issues with twitter, youtube and other embeds, very annoying
Giggles: lines at practice without Alexis Lafrenière

and Slafkovsky is “day to day” (wink wink) … this could be the biggest bombshell of a … I mean were 10A’s ever, you know, like was there ever a time where two … Never mind. Never mind.
😛
unrelated, how would Slafkovsky feel about playing RW and becoming maybe just the second 1OA to have to switch his natural position 😉
One thing that was nice about MLB manager interviews during the game was that they gave some actual insight into their thoughts. Roberts even said when he was going to make a pitching change a few batters later.
NHL interviews always canned and cliche responses, regardless of timing.

pack update
Laffy did take that awkward hit last game. Was definitely feeling it on the bench. I was happy he could stay in game.
suspect he just needed maintenance day.
All NHL players and coaches seem born with the same generic “team” postgame statements
Yeah but I’d pay money to see Rempe on the wing with Bread and Tro for a game. The Canadian talking heads would be frothing at the mouth every shift 🤣
I think he can play either side. Puckpedia.com and cbssports.com list him as a RW. thedraftanalyst.com has him playing both. I think any reluctance to play RW might be offset by the opportunity to play with Panaran.
(As if my initial post wasn’t 100% poppycock anyway lol )
with hockey and hoops ramping up, can quickly move on from watching the Jests and the Gimps
that’s funny everyplace I look he’s LW. Just goes to show you, doesn’t matter where you put a winger he’ll be fine 🙂
Both the Giants and Jets quit on Sunday. Daboll is toast, but Ulbrich has to make a statement to have any chance of keeping the job. Someone needs to be sidelined or released to get their attention.
Can we just put DeVito in so fans can at least have something, someone to root for? He was 3-3 last season. Even if he doesn’t win, I’d rather root for him than any more Danny Pennies, aka Woody.
OMG! I’ve *so* been waitin for this! 🤣
#NYR among the first 11 teams @lululemon products will be available in amid this new partnership with the NHL and Fanatics.
I hope you get your wish, so we finally put to bed the DeVito crap. Jones probably has a game or two left. They can’t risk him getting injured, guaranteeing his contract for next season.
UTB: its not that I (and others) think DeVito is the next coming of Brady, just that he is a lot more fun to watch and root for.
As to Jones, he strikes me as a nice guy that was drafted two rounds early and then given a contract impossible to live up to, both from his end and those around him. But end of day, he’s not been able to get it done and his one “good” season revolved more around his legs than his arm.
Will not watch Tony Cutlets. Rather watch Iona Prep or Mt. St. Michael’s, P Diddy’s alma mater. Paragraph 2 – dead on. Duke? Arrogant, against logic pick by a delusional megalomaniac.
Nevertheless, I hate the pens!
lindgren back in w mancini
laffy good to go
sorry rempe fans. he’s sitting
VinceM seems to be very upset with the”hasty” removal of Jones from the lineup 😂. The seem to remember someone here saying that when Lindgren came back, Jones could be in trouble. I’m having trouble remembering who said it 🤷♂️.
still waiting to see why Brodie playing over rempe. It’s so ridiculous.
wifi listed as 6’4. 240 lbs
Would rather Rempe put the forcheck pressure on him
also, don’t want cuylle having to fight him
Rempe has been neutered. Anything he does is a penalty because of his size and elbow placement. Brodzinski I think brings more checking and scoring chances. Not much more, but more. That being said, I want to see Rempe unleashed and in the lineup.
Polar Bear considering 7 year, 275 mil $ offer from Anchorage Igloos. They need a first baseman.
Brodude listed at 6 ft 210 but he plays like he is 5’8 charmin soft
no toughness. Zucc is tougher.
57 games last year 6 goals 8PIM and -3
161 career games. 15 goals
will be 32 yo in June
he should be in AHL this year. He was a stop gap last year before Edstrom and rempe could earn a spot
going to be a lot of crying here when rempe gets sent down.
it’s pretty clear that is going to happen once Vesey comes back.
I’d prefer Rempe to play but if not, send him down. Looks like they will play him every other home game to keep the fans interested.
they have yet to lose in regulation with him in lineup…
it’s a joke
3-0 without him
If not mistaken Jones has to go to waivers now if they send him down? it should be lindgren in Jones and Vittorio rotating and Ruhwedel down to the Pack.
Vesey in, career placeholder BroDude stays in and Rempe down, based on usage. 10 minutes every 5 games doesn’t need a roster space if that’s the plan.
do you mean Brodude stays “up” as the extra forward ?
I don’t have a problem with that because I’d rather Rempe get minutes to keep developing.
so won’t cry about it.
I just think that while he’s up here now he brings way more than Bro
vesey is useful depth. I don’t have a problem with him being around. Especially to fill in for injury. He can skate on any line
I think they eventually take the easy way out and send down Mancini.
Brodzinski is not an NHL player. Coach has a blind spot for him. I’m not quite sold that Rempe is an NHL player either. But if I’m choosing between the two, Rempe gives them something they don’t have, so id keep Rempe.
exactly right UTB
More like I expect him to stay in the lineup, or rotate anyway, when Carrick and Vesey are the 4th line regulars. I think the question for coach is Edstrom vs BroDud. I don’t think Brodzinski brings much to the table but expect he’ll get more than his share of starts
