NYR lead series 3-2
16 May 2024 7:00 PM EDT at PNC Arena, Raleigh NC
TV MAX, truTV, TNT, SNO, SNE, SN360, TVAS, CBC
The NY Rangers are on the doorstep of moving on to the third round of the playoffs… if they can win one more game against Carolina. If tonight is the night, it will be a road win in Raleigh.
The past two losses have seen the Rangers struggle on the power play, moving the puck out of the defensive zone and slowing Carolina down through the neutral zone. Power plays are always a bit streaky so it is not unreasonable to expect good odds of a turn around there. Getting the puck out of their own end and being better about denying Carolina easy entry past the blue line will require some shift in their game plan. Some kind of modifications by Coach Laviolette and his staff are likely.
The starting line up even at 5:15 PM remains hush-hush. Kreider is expected to play after getting a bit banged up in game five. There is no word on Chytil – he has practiced but has also been part of the last group off, usually an indication of a trip to the box upstairs. Defensive pairs in practice reverted back to what they were the majority of the season – Miller/Trouba and Gustafsson/Schneider. Nobody knows though if that change will carry over to the ice tonight. Brodzinksi skated with the 4th line in practice in place of Rempe but even there, Rempe played in game 5 when many were certain he would not.
On this date in history: There is no significant NYR news for this date, it is up to the current team to make some.

Headzo, if they lose this round, probably neither. I’ll watch the Panthers but that’s it. I really don’t care about any other teams in it.
I’m going to be depressed every game I have to go to between the Panthers and the canes.
just loyalty and over 100 points
Bad time for a losing streak imho
Second game in a row that Anderson can leave after and head straight to a wedding without showering.
I’m not ready to give up. But then again I’m really really high right now.
Hopefully they’re all snorting coke in the locker room right now.
Oh yeah, bobby, that gives us a great deal of hope🙄
Somebody replaced their speed with ludes after the game 3 OT
sorry for bringing him up BUT, I wish Rempe were in to change tone
I like there’s a couple guys around here who maintain a (positive) sense of wonder about the team, as opposed to just wondering why bother 🙂
variety is the spic of life!
spice. jeez.
Is svechnikov not playing? I’ve been back and forth between feeds but what’s scary is that he’s not even attracting my attention given how well Carolina is playing
Why is Carolina playing offense? Aren’t they up by two? Shouldn’t they be just dumping it out of their zone for the rest of the game?
For at least the past 9 periods the color guy says “great start by the hurricanes”
The Caps should be embarrassed
They’ve got 3 times the goals we have, just in posts.
Hurricanes playing like they’re down 3-1. And Shesty is just plain off tonight.
Eh the Caps berth was a gift from Philly, even making the playoffs was a gift to them
E3 that latter situation can be changed 😁
If desperation is such a motivator, you’ve got to think we’ll probably have some next game AND the home ice advantage…which, coincidentally meant nothing last game.
here we go!
ummmm
game on
About time he got a dirty filthy greasy goal that can’t be overturned by Toronto
Anderson sucks! They finally took advantage of it this game. Now do it again.
Woot, Woot — per Gravy
That’s exactly the garbage goal they needed. Superb from Zibanejad.
beeze – werd
The canes fans are still loud as hell. Rangers get scored on at any point and you can hear a pin drop there.
there=MSG
Freddy’s dead
why is kreider trying to make that pass?
That’s the THIRD time in this game that two rangers collided and they lost the puck.
That was a grade A collision
Nervous cheering from the crowd…c’mon, boys.
Have Fox and Lindgren changed roles here?
100 bucks say they get this wrong
they already called 2 penalties
Yay! We get to try and beat Carolina AND the three stooges refs
Anyway good long rest for the rangers top line here
Nothing conclusive.
yawn…. 😉
Check that. They missed it, but that’s an impossible call.
Norm, it was an obvious penalty. Quit playing Derbils advocate.
How do blow this team up? They can’t bring the same roster back to training camp.
I think noise is pumped into the building
Norm, why tf is that an impossible call? If that was actually true then they might as well go to video replay on every single one of those.
It was obvious only in very slow motion, and there’s no video review for the refs.
I hope Momma is ok down there
Maybe it’s impossible for THESE refs. But that’s because they’re the 4 blind mice.
wow 3
Staal thought that was embellishment??!! Wtf is wrong with him?!
with authority! Now he’s in the game!!
You don’t like the call? OK boarding 5 minutes instead
Mika May you say?
Maybe someone radio’d down a make-up call.
that goal was by kreider. i know he’s not liked here but give him some due especially playing hurt
they definitely pump noise into that dump.
Burns hasn’t been called for anything this series and he’s been tackling and cross-checking all series
THERE IT IS!!!!
Does it count?
Kreider!!!
where’s Pete???
Woot, Woot, Woot — per Gravy

Omg don’t give up a quick one now
i hate hope. It just makes it worse when it’s snatched from under you.

LeFrenchie scores the next goal
Andersen is the key to NY’s comeback.

Is everybody happy?
Like everyone else here, esp. Evrock, I had no doubts. LGR!!!
Kreider Mark Messiered the shizit out of this game.
Kreider May have scored the goals, but great effort by the entire team; finally moving their feet and playing as a team
I’d still give Shesty the #1 star
This was definitely a One-Period-Rangers game. But that one period was monstrous.
Trocheck on Kreider getting the natural hatty: “It takes balls.. excuse my French”
Can’t wait for Bisonnette’s expert analysis.
Holy shite! CK channeling Mess!
As ppredicted, I’m drunk and freaking out
well that was very nice
Tro: Thatsa spicy ameatball
I don’t mind seeing biz anymore 🤣
They uncollapsed the monumental collapse!

szuck it Bizz
let’s go bruins. Game 7 we want
Trocheck also said that not much was said in the room between periods
never give up. Hope is a good thing. Maybe the best thing.
“How did we get here, Biz?”
one question…..
why were Weinberg, Culleye and Kakko on for the face off when the Csnes pulled Andersonn?
CRY
What is wrong with these guys? Zika was legit cross-checked in the back and players into the glass. Geezus
Silver llining in Carolina they get to keep their 1st rd pick from the Pens
papa
couldn’t use the same few guys the last 3 minutes
minor down note
pack lost 6-1
play sat away
wed home
fri home if necessary
sun away if necessary
Woot woot woot woot woot!
Gravy you cheated!
All right, let me now enjoy some hockey with EDM-VAN.
Well fellas I did a bad thing. When they fell behind 2-0 I started fast forwarding. I just couldn’t handle it.
All I can say is wow…..CK20 as Mark Messier. What a resilient effort. Amazing just amazing. I can’t say anything else. I am speechless and so happy. I want more…..I want 8 more.
Kreider is going full 300 look
Just finished watching it delayed I’m speechless. No Minxmares tonight.
Our boys in blue needed the core to get up off the floor. Kreider shut the door. The crazy canes are no more. Woot Woot Woot!
I never cursed this team so much through two periods. My poor daughter had to endure a lot of foul language.
Still thinking I’m going to wake up from a few beers to find I just dreamed this game lol
8 down, 8 to go.
I think this means 20 gets retired
to the rafters I mean, not that 20 retires tonight
All I can say is, that first thing in tomorrow morning – I have to go to the corner CVS to refill my Nitroglycerin…Totally empty. And I will send check to the Rangers’ organization.
NBC NY 11 pm news leads with Ranger win and red “Breaking News” banners
three rangers have had hat trick in a single period in playoffs
messier
gretzky
kreider
interesting all names 7 letters
Karl, valliquette agrees with you
I think they had to retire it anyway at this point, career leader in dozens of stats
I wonder if Simple Minds get royalties when Canucks score goals at home.
I’ll be wearing my kreider sweater to the retirement party (jk I probably can’t afford the tickets) This comment aged quite well btw
THE the REAL article!
Chris Kreider is 33 years old & scored a 3rd period natural hat trick in Game 6 down 2 goals.Mark Messier was 33 years old when he scored a 3rd period natural hat trick in a Game 6 down 2 goals.
You must read this. Coincidence. Marc Messier scored a hat trick in game 6 of the playoffs in 1994 at the age of 33 and the Rangers went on to win the Stanley Cup. Kris Kreider scored a hat trick in game 6 of the playoffs at the age of 33. Real Coincidence. Goose bumps
The rangers were only down by 1 goal when messier began his hat trick, fwiw, which included an empty netter, making kreider’s feat even more impressive by comparison (not to understate the challenge rangers traditionally find in hitting the empty net of course!)
Messier looked 50 in 1994.
Furthermore there’s a good chance of Vancouver being in the finals. Eerie
National Enquirer Front Page: “Chris Kreider: Really Time Traveling Mark Messier?”
Jesus had his Last Supper at age 33 and Kreider had supper last night at age 33.
Incredble!
Still waiting for the internet to tell me how CK20’s single period natural playoff hat trick in under 9 minutes compares historically. Some 1950s Canadien probably did it in like 115 seconds
So weird hearing the Vancouver crowd chanting “JT Miller”.
Kreider told mates he was going to score in the Locke room between 2nd and 3rd periods.
I love everybody!!!
Ha happily eating crow for doubting Kreider SN! What a performance in the third!!!
Still no time for Rosi and not much for Mika, but got the job done!
Going to be interesting to see if Chytil and/or Wheeler get into the lineup next series as will need some contributions from bottom 6 realistically
Sour grapes from garden tool Brind-Amour.
#20 changed some basin water into wine for all the boys to enjoy a celebratory taste B4 showering.
What a great period. What a great Ranger. THE KREIDER
Thinking of Miami Pimp this morning. Hope he’s okay and cancer free somewhere
Does Kreider get into BC without hockey? Just axing.
is the pope Catholic?
Not this one.
*GOOD MORNING NEW POST*
Got the sense when it was 3-1 in the 3rd period that it was now or never. Either now the Rangers feel some urgency and show the level of compete that Carolina’s been showing since it was 3 games to none. OR not and they go back to MSG and there’s a good chance they lose.
Tying and winning goals for Canucks by Phil DeGiuseppe and JT Miller. A chance all 4 Division winners go to the Conference finals. How often does that happen?
Brind’Amour kind of threw Freddy under the bus in his postgame presser. Not the best look. Rangers did have a big advantage between the pipes.
