The NY Rangers look to close out the Carolina Hurricanes tonight at MSG in game 5 of their second round matchup. What better place to win, even if they had to play an extra game?
Lineup wise, no changes from game four are expected for either team. Though Chytil did skate a bit with the regulars, he was the bag guy which is usually a sign the game will be watched from the box upstairs. Wheeler also returned to practice absent the no-contact jersey, though no word on just how close he may be to game ready. Nothing new on Pesce for the Canes.
Keys tonight: have to start with getting a better start! Rangers have been on their heels early on the past two games, they need to take the game to Carolina and stop playing in their own end. Second, be better about not allowing the Canes unhindered rushes across center ice and the blue line. Finally, be better aware of where your opponent is on the ice, especially in your own end.

here is what I don’t understand. You have 12 minutes left you give up the second goal. Why not put to maybe stop the momentum that Canes have. They don’t seem to be playing hard not to see if the momentum could change with the head or a fight or anything. The stars aren’t doing anything and now that they just gave up the net goal. This game is done. I agree with the people who said that it’s pointless to play Rempe because it doesn’t seem like Lavy is Playing him where he could do some good . so then, just play someone else

Got their asses kicked by a better team that never, ever stops working. I have the Rangers winning just one period clearly this series, the 2nd in Game 4. They’re in trouble. But at least we don’t have to watch Rempe stumbling around out there any more. Fun regular-season entertainer, not an NHL hockey player. Need all 12 against this buzzsaw.
You cannot just skate to victory. You must put some effort into it. Sloppy puck movement and play tracking.

Team hasn’t been the same since game 2. Game 3 we were lucky to win in OT, Carolina choked on many chances. At least its 3-2 NYR instead of 3-2 CAR.
At first the refs were fair. Then they stopped making calls which favored Carolina because they were talking a ton more penalties than us. How the fudge do you miss 10 full seconds of too many men? Or the picture of Panarin in the rulebook for what it looks like to be hooked?
Everyone had it as a 6- or 7-game series. Carolina is deeper and plays a non-stop, team game. Shesty will have to steal it for the Rs to advance.

A team can’t win the cup without some adversity along the journey. This, my friends, could be the kick in the pants that has them dig deep and gets them to play like they did all season long. At least that’s my hope.

This is why I have always kept my expectations low and why I didn’t let the President’s Trophy stuff distract me. This is worse than I expected though. I didn’t anticipate the three-peat.
Norm you clearly know more about hockey then guys like Mess and Maloney so Rempe must go.
Admiral James would be hot about this loss, Ilb would be saying we’re still up 3-2, just have to win one game.
The problem is not any single player. It is collectively they have been checked out the better part of the past three games, losing two and winning one after a horrible start.

NYR immobile D prevents pinching and they also quickly vacate the neutral zone making it very easy for Canes to move into ozone with possession
Rangers need to move their legs. There’s no other way around it. Need to skate with the puck. Get more pucks to the net.
Anderson is a pedestrian goaltender—that needs to be fully exploited.

Both teams were sluggish at the start… Maybe equally so, NYR stayed sluggish, Canes got a bit better & started hitting. Rempe playing tentatively afraid to take a penalty or get suspended. Nice going NHL, way to screw a youngster out of his opportunity.

Norm – unlike other Rangers, Rempe forechecks. Rempe also goes in front of the net. Rempe also looks for the man in front to pass to when below the line. Yes, simple very basic hockey 101 stuff that unfortunately so many of the fancy pants big $ players seem to have forgotten how to do, or in some cases, have never done.
Silver lining: the rangers looked like they got plenty of rest tonight conserving their energy while the Canes skated hard for at least 40 minutes. So should have the energy advantage on Thursday?
So he’s underused? I thought he had an effective first shift, nothing dangerous, but effective. The rest of his handful of shifts (before garbage time), his usual rink turns and getting knocked down easily. But if you’re going to look at the rest of the gang as mere fancy-pants, there’s probably not of shared agreement available here.
And the pass from behind the net to the man in front if he’s tied up, which is most of the time, is one of the worst, most dangerous plays in hockey. I still remember getting reamed by my coaches for those 101 mistakes.
Norm – the coach could have played Chytil tonight. You know, that flashy kid that doesn’t hit anything and does flybys of the net while looking ooh so sexy! Did he? No. Why not? Did Chytil catch cold again and need some more Nyquil? I mean he did skate practice this afternoon. So its not the noggin, right?
If you don’t see that the people paid to coach the team feel there is more value in Rempe, even in limited minutes, I can’t help you. And yes, I think he should have kept playing that line – last I checked they weren’t on for any scores against so the fears of them getting torched are probably a bit overdone?
And, wait for it… he could still have slipped Chytil in on wing and sat Kakko, who seems only able to score once every 21 days. But apparently the rest of Kakko’s game was also valued more highly than anything Chytil could bring to the ice tonight. Same for Cuylle, Wennberg, Roslovic, VC and Goodrow, none of whom have been scoring a ton, certainly Chytil’s offense, speed and hockey IQ must be better for the team than anything they have? Guess not.
All that said, desperate times so who knows what Lavi does on Thursday and hopefully not on the weekend. With the way the other guys played tonight, it really doesn’t matter a hoot who they put in if they don’t collectively get their butts in gear pronto.
When will this freaking team wake up; they won the president’s trophy and had the best record in all of hockey. hello play your game. Here’s the problem; they won the first 3 games with a lot of luck any many Cane mistakes. The Canes have got their crap together and we better play the best two remaining games with serious passion or it’s all over. Wake up 20, 93, 98. 10 & Shesterken. Where’s,the continual sparkplug trocheck hiding. Come on guys you didn’t become the best team in the NHL by playing like this. Your last one or 2 games will last s lifetime. WAKE UP HAVE PASSION
I’m basically just resigned to assuming they’re gonna blow the entire 3-0 lead and become the 5th team in NHL history to do so. I said before that if there’s any team that could do it it’s this one and if there’s any team that could come back from down 3-0, it’s these Canes. Both of those possibilities added together equals a very poor prognosis for the Rangers’ future in these playoffs.
If the opposite happens, I’ll be ecstatic. But I’m not expecting it and after I can come to accept this very real possibility, the happier I’ll be. I unfortunately get a lot of happiness out of when this team does well or at least tries to. Depression is a bitch.
I’m not really looking forward to going to the Panther game tomorrow night, but… I guess I can get behind a winner.
The only other team whose fans can expect to be letdown every time like we can are the Toronto Maple Leafs’. I guess it could be worse.
As talented as Krusty is his true colors show when he’s forecheck relentlessly. Collectively the Rangers wilt under pressure, Brind’Amour knows this. They don’t respond well to a tenacious forecheck. On top of that the crazy canes are quicker to every puck. The only way they take this series is Twerkin playing lights out. Otherwise it’s tee time for our boys in blue, and the DJ booth for Dajenabiz.

watched with my ladies brother whose originally from caribbean. explained some of game as we watched. he picked up on the canes dominance, wondering when we had a guy going up ice with the puck he had no one going with him. problem was we were so tired by play in our zone guys had to change
they’ve beaten us to puck all series. but it’s not a choke when you lose to a better team. just looks that way due to undeserved 3-0 lead.
i’m really hoping chytil is healthy enough to be bought out this summer. i really don’t care what bobby o thinks about that.

Did Freddy make a tough save all night? They did nothing offensively all night. We have seen this show the last two years. They get out front in series and can’t close the deal.
Gentlemen; let us refrain from the bickering. Brutal loss; every game has been tight. Even strength been issue all season with all lines save Breads’ but now they are pedestrian against Canes relentless press checking game.
Since Lav decided they want to dump and chase and defend all series, curious if that changes a little. Guys who like to carry the puck have plenty of room; just do not have too many with speed to do so. Esp D where our lack of foot speed and coverage has NYR chasing all night.

3rd line had some good cycles, but D does not engage. You NEED all 5 guys moving and skating like its OT 3v3 in ozone.
They say in hoops, press a pressing team. If NYR opens it up a little, will the edge in goal be enough of an advantage to survive giving up grade A chances. Feels like the chances are already being given up with no opps on the other side.
