In this NHL matchup, it’s a battle of the boroughs as the Islanders welcome the Rangers to their turf this Tuesday. With the Islanders fighting tooth and nail for a playoff spot in the Metropolitan Division, and the already-secured Rangers looking to play spoiler, it’s shaping up to be an intense showdown.
At this stage of the season, anything goes, and the Islanders might just surprise us all against one of the league’s top teams. What kind of intestinal fortitude do the Rangers have? How much desire do they have to win? We are going to find that out before this night is over.
It’s 1 period, Craig. The Piles are +20 in opening periods this season. They’re minus for the year in P2 & P3. Let’s give our boys a chance. Otherwise, turn the tube off & read a good book.
Motivation was definitely lacking in the first period. They need to play harder from next period on because the Isles could be our 1st round matchup. Rangers need to establish some authority here.

Rempe needs to play next time these two clubs matchup. not much more to say of last night, other than the Rangers weren’t ready for this desperate team – and it would have been nice for the Rangers to throw some vicious hits the other way.
The “hit” on Mika was self-inflicted – the Islander guy was pretty much stationary from what I recall last night. The Trocheck hit behind the net was a definite penalty but with what, 7 secs left? That’s only enough time for the face off and 4 cross ice passes before the buzzer
And the goalie taking out VC’s legs in front of net? That was a penalty for sure.
Having JBro out in the last minute trying to tie the game was a curious personnel choice to say the least.
Loser’s complain about missed calls. Yes there were a bunch of calls we could have gotten in the third period but did not.
The 1st period was on the team and coaching staff. The Islanders came out like a bunch of wild dogs and we sat back,watched and fished the puck out of the net after we knocked it in ourselves. 2nd and 3rf periods were better but the Team knows it has to play a full 60 minutes game to compete in the playoffs.
So on Saturday they will put Rempe out for 1st shift for his fight and the crowd will go wild. If we do not score the 1st 3 or 4 goals and completely destroy them,they will come back and make a game of it. I have seen the same script repeat itself way to many times with this team in the last 30 years.

SN the only reason I could see for Brodude out there so late is he is more shoot first. They needed to get pucks on net and try to get a deflection or reboud in but our regulars seemed to be in pass it around mode, only taking the near perfect shot.
