NY Rangers (44-19-4) vs Winnipeg Jets (43-19-5)
19 Mar 2024 7:00 PM EDT at MSG
The Winnipeg Jets and New York Rangers are set to face off in a mid-March showdown at Madison Square Garden. With both teams leading their divisions and aiming for over 100 points, this matchup could be a sneak peek of the Stanley Cup Finals. It’s a thrilling test as the regular season winds down.
In this battle of hockey heavyweights, I’m putting my money on the Rangers. They’ve been on a hot streak lately, winning 5 of their last 6 games against top-tier opponents. With home advantage, coach Peter Laviolette will have his squad fired up and ready to take on the Jets.
While it’s likely to be a tight game, I believe the Rangers’ firepower upfront will give them the edge. So, brace yourselves for an intense showdown, but I’m predicting a victory for New York in this highly-anticipated clash.
Probable NYR lineup:
Chris Kreider -- Mika Zibanejad -- Jack Roslovic
Artemi Panarin -- Vincent Trocheck -- Alexis Lafreniere
Jonny Brodzinski -- Alexander Wennberg -- Kaapo Kakko
Will Cuylle -- Barclay Goodrow -- Jimmy Vesey
K'Andre Miller -- Braden Schneider
Erik Gustafsson -- Adam Fox
Zac Jones -- Chad Ruhwedel
Igor Shesterkin
Jonathan Quick
Scratched: Matt Rempe, Brandon Scanlin
Injured: Jacob Trouba (lower body), Ryan Lindgren (lower body)

FIRST! That’s it. Not like I have nothing else to say, – just don’t want to…
SECOND!
I’m at a dinner and the phone app doesn’t allow you to choose feeds. Ugh.
LGR!
Hmm… Arniel. What is his job description now? What he was doing while behind the Rangers bench?
LGR!
Gusto already 3 turnovers…
That was a really lazy play, I think by Panarin, along the boards not chipping the puck up into the Peg zone which resulted in Jones getting stuck out there for even longer. Hopefully the coaches said something about it, that’s the kind of plays that will lose you games in the playoffs.
Clash!
So far, so eh.
Salmon Joe says Hellebuyck has been very good, Kakko says eh, so the consensus is they’re playing pretty good.
Weeeeeeeaakk call
As long as they call it both ways 🤷🏻♂️
Fox recently has some elevated taste for interferences…
Kyle Connor and Connor Hellebuyck. Brothers?
Scheifle should be in box for throwing punches becuase he was knocked on his butt
Horrible turnover
Shesty cleans up bad Miller pass.
Keep talking about how great Miller is… Most dangerous Turnover machine, with roadcone sense of positioning…
Some poor passing choices lately.
EV how long since we scored on a break away?
K’Andre already owes Shesty a season supply of lunches (even with the lobsters).
Shoot! Stupid…
Pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass turnover
you guys realize Winnipeg has 91 points right?
Cuylee has a lot of jump tonight….very noticeable.
Kind of a track meet . The Rangers have hade the better of play except when Gustafson and Miller treated the puck as if it was a live hand grenade.
Good effort against the best goalie and best defense in the league. Rangers shooting a lot, but it will take a screen, tip, or last-second pass to beat Hellebuyck, you suspect.
Jack Straw from Wichita…..scores the first goal. Lay your money down.
Detroit is in supersonic freefall.
Pittsburg sucks
Devils suck and the Icelanders aren’t going to make the playoffs.
Therefore, the world is in pretty good order😎
Decent distribution of ice time for D even for the 3rd pair of Jones-Ruhwedal, but K’andre and Gus probably shouldn’t be on track for 24 minutes each.
Vally says hellebuyck has no weakness. High praise.
Detroit continue to politely step aside for the Assdancers and Craps. What a shame.
something isn’t right in Wings room. Ko Kane was beotching at the entire team. They’re not making the playoffs..
It would probably help if they actually get possession in the offensive zone and the easy they’re going, the defensive zone, too.
*way
What a snivel! Snot of the goal.
If the rangers get goalied tonight at least it will be by the best one in the league this season as opposed to the usual cast-offs, rookies, and spare parts
loving the lyrics, E3!!
With the Hellofabuck in the net and their defense, Jets can easily keep one goal ahead difference to the end…
Nice to see a new move on the power play. Shame it missed the net.
Woot
great pass by Rosy
Its all going to be second and third efforts. Second Pp unit actually has guys near the crease for it.
Poke poke poke poke 🙄
Great effort by foxyclean not to take a penalty on Ehlers!
these are two excellent teams playing a great brand of hockey. Two great goalies, too.
jets taking them to the cleaners
pk just watching, very passive, and it’s in.
Really dislike Fox and Miller as a PK pair. Not many options with Schneider in the box I guess.
Plenty of time.
I’m sensing cock-oh scores soon.
Next goal wins. Also, next goal will be by our beautiful boys in blue. We win 4-2. Empty netter for Vesey.
Who hacked Craig’s account?
Scheifele time!
See! I know what I’m talking about!
woof
Ledge is right upstairs, everyone!
that was pretty poor. Ugh.
I’m done. They look like absolute crap on a stick. That’s not even mentioning how incredibly lazy they look. Just pathetic.
Kreider. Ugh.
Thank you Chris! Now you and Miller better score a pair. And do it rather pronto.
Not gonna make Kreider’s highlight reel tape.
Canes smell blood in the water… Storm Surge has opened a 3-0 lead over the Pyles.
The way HB is playing might be all she wrote 😵💫
now we’ve got to listen to SalmonJoe gushing over the Jets.
Kreids needs to move his feet
Pyles?
Well, I still stand by my proclamation of next goal wins, so……. we done. Can’t win em’ all. I just wish we would win games against teams like this bc if we can’t, we’ll go nowhere in the playoffs.
And it’s real, believe what I say, yeah
Just one thing I got to say
I need a miracle every day.
At least now I can enjoy the dinner I’m at and quit using up my phone’s battery.
SalmonJoe – Joe specifically has been gushing about the jets for the past 10 minimizes, literally. Shut the Fugg up!!!
Plenty of time. LGR!
norm :
Pyles rhymes (and describes) “Isles”. 😉
rangers win this :
rangers 35
jets 3
if they keep playing like this, we get one possible win in the next five games. Maybe.
BTW, if not for this, leading to goal turnover, I wouldn’t notice Kreider in this game at all…
Rangers just need a good 20 minutes.
Miller,Fox,Kreider. ALl three with lackadaiscal plays. I have seen way too many of those brainfarts this year by players who are supposed to be leaders. OH well. ON to Boston to get whipped. Then back to MSG for a Saturday night sh*** show.
Olga I think they’ll need the better part of 25 minutes
Boston competing with Icelanders for most Bettmans so not as concerned
Adm.: I would have gotten Pisles.
rangers won’t make the playoffs
Big guys have to stop making mistakes and start stepping up
next game,: Rempe stood up a full 6ft 10, saidvya can’t close the door when the walls cave in….i asked for some water, he cut me a line…when the vial was empty he broke into mine…
Norm:
”Pyles” is amusing to see typed. I actually got it from someone here, I don’t remember whom.
I’m guessing the Rangers have another 6 or 7 shot period like they often do in this type of situation.
our sexy boys look tired. No legs.
pozy pozy pozy no neggy
Jets forced some chances and finished. Rangers had some chances and blew it. That’s the two goal difference.
oink oink is having a good year
lol penalty called.
2 minutes for cock-oh
Great penalty there, Cock-O.
Kick kappo kakko in the kiester.
3 shorties would be nice
Be nice to see a little urgency… It gets so urgent..so urgent. You know it’s urgent!
Shaggy is annoying me. Playing weak and lazy tonight. A little more effort…..too much to ask?
beezke – they only had one song….with lots of different titles
You might get lucky on one of those shots be that’s not how you are going to beat this goalie. You need traffic in front and rebounds/deflections
They already have 6 shots. I might be incorrect. Won’t matter either way🤷🏻♂️
this where Zac Jones puts the team on his shoulders and leads them home.
E3,
Wrong.
Johnny B. will take us to the promised land.
#AStarIsBorn
At least we don’t have to talk about another team’s goaltender playing like Patrick Roy against only us.
on the bright side if this keeps up Boyle could take away Michelletti’s job
Just need 6.5 good minutes.
No, the Rangers didn’t have to make a change. I hate that dump in/change as you just end up in your own end again
I hate losing
Don’t recall them throwing a significant check in this game.
This is just garbage. No possession. Few shots.
4-1 empty net final
i haven’t watched a second of the third. Been watching the Blues game, as both teams look like they actually want to win.
Did Kreider get benched?
Woot woot
Rangers just need a good 2 minutes.
Laffy with one… who will get the third?
Photo finish!
you are missing a good game Kakko
20 goals for Laffy
Kreider mugged. No call.
I watched from the first second of the third. Until Winnipeg got their fourth.
Yay! We gave another player a hat trick!
One of those nights.☹️
I wouldn’t say the Rangers have brought their A game tonight, defensive absences aside.
bobby, I didn’t miss shizit.
you guys whine too much
Dammit. Avalanche scored to tie it up while I was bizitching.
On to Chicago and don’t need to win there…
it took a 6-4 to get a second goal with the clock running out. This wasn’t just the other goalie being good, our offense wasn’t there tonight.
Great regular-season game for ORF. Right down to the wire, Kreider an inch away on a bouncer.
Rangers are like, 50% win rate vs the top teams in these measuring stick games? Can’t win em all! Just need to get that up to about 58% to win playoff serieses 🙂
Olga going for the lotto again
We should all be rooting for St. Louis and hoping they overtake and knock Vegas out of the playoffs.
Shots 42-27, not exactly a mail-in. Got goalied.
bobby, I put in the same effort in this game that the Rangers did.
Not a fan of the Fox/Miller pairing either.. think they should have kept Schneider/Miller, put Fox with the new guy
tough stretch in schedule …Down 2 top 4 defensemen …shots still 42 to 26 …. 2 kinda fluky goals and a solid Helleybuck performance …keep whining
Brooks with a new post on Roslovic https://nypost.com/2024/03/19/sports/jack-roslovic-meshing-perfectly-with-rangers-even-practice
I’m bizitching, not whining. Get it right.
This thing will put anything in moderation. Smh
Kreider is a great asset for the Rangers. He knows his job and does it well…
That being said, he is one lazy player. Makes too many soft plays or isn’t hard on the puck. Winnipeg’s last two goals were on Kreider. He makes a lazy play on the puck near his own blue line that springs Schifele on a break away for the 3rd goal and then Kreider makes a blind pass to the center of the ice with Igor pulled that led to the empty net goal.
No Huggy Twin Huggy Love. Notice?
Entertaining game between 2 good teams. Hellebucyk is the the walrus in the Geico ads.
Jets big guns all came through for them. They need traffic and rebounds to beat the Waltus and didn’t start doing it until it was too late. The Kreider fur ball took the wind out of them. Jones looks good. Gustafson not so much. Watching Miller in person for a full game he doesn’t look that bad.
Miller gives up at least two golden ‘chances – against’ each period. Our goalies bailing him out all season.
they fell like a cheap suit to another big heavy team, the last being the Lightning. Big guys of the Lightning and jets outplayed our big guys. Any pattern here?
Ok / so they didn’t fall like a cheap suit.
but their big guys outplayed ours for the 2nd time in 4 games.
Rangers are unable to beat Hellebuyck. Rangers always have trouble with the Walrus types.
After this stretch our boys in blue will more than likely be sitting 2nd in the Metro.
they played hard and got goalied. It happens. Good team and excellent goalie beat them. On to the next game.
How exactly does a cheap suit fold?
I was impressed by the Jets’ defensive structure. They played a “good road game ” and pounced on a couple of Ranger mistakes. The Kreider kerfuffle really hurt. He looks tired and might need a break. No need to fight tooth and nail to finish first. Playing the Flyers in the first round isn’t the end of the world.
No one mentions Zibby and his no-show and his quick exit ducking out post-periods?
victim of the schedule. huge amount of games in short timeframe
0-1 when Wennberg scores
0-1 when Roslivic scores
Last two losses are because our boy’s couldn’t lock down the other teams’ offensive star/s. Meanwhile, other than one Panarin game, ours haven’t taken control of a game in a bit now.
You’re right, Camp, this team blows.
There is no way of knowing how far this team can, or will go in the post season. Having said that, the only two teams that I want no part of are the bolts, (Vasilevskiy), and the jets, (Hellebuyck).
Mika’s like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get. I just realized the Rangers will be facing another Walrus Thursday, ugh!
“
I am he as you are he, as you are me and we are all together
See how they run like pigs from a gun, see how they fly
I’m crying
Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come
Corporation tee-shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday
Man, you been a naughty boy, you let your face grow long
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen
I am the walrus, goo-goo g’joob”
I didn’t watch the game but I did read Norm’s post how Miller passed right to a jets player that Igor had to bail him out. Miller does this 2-3 times a game. He is far from being a stud, more like a dud.
It’s nice that the rangers have a good regular season record but for me at my age it’s about winning a championship and this core isn’t championship quality. If they play Tampa in 1st round they won’t make it to second round. If I was a betting man I would say Carolina is going to win the division.
worst first place team in division
wouldn’t say division but out of all 1st place teams in the NHL, you might be correct.
may not have 1st much longer and honestly may not be a bad thing!
why would a Stanley Cup winning coach and future HOF give 20 plus minutes of ice time per night to a Dud?
doesn’t have much of a choice now does he
bobbyo
Good point. But who else is he going to put out there for 20 plus minutes?
Maybe someone that could help the team get more than 94 points?
Tied for second in league 2/3 of the way through March,
we suck again!
how did the new guy look on D?
SN
like a penguin.
fine… not big keeps it simple..takes the body
I must have watched a different game. Our top six got outplayed and out hustled. And not just by the goalie.
Sad follow up to the Simon story
https://nypost.com/2024/03/20/sports/ex-rangers-islanders-enforcer-chris-simon-died-by-suicide/
Someone should send this article to Rempe so that the kid understands the path he wants to avoid going down. No one knows which people are susceptible to CTE. It’s not something you want to take chance with.
Minx this one is for you:
For the seventh year in a row, Finland has landed the top spot on the World Happiness Report’s annual ranking of the happiest countries in the world.
So now you know why Kakko smiles so much! 🤣
What I saw last night is that they can compete with top teams. They have a stretch of games against top teams this week and in the post season they need to do more than compete. They need to win series. Let’s see how they do in these games.
They have a team wide tendency to be sloppy with the puck and top teams will take advantage of those mistakes and score a goal or two against them that will make the difference in the series. It’s not just one or two guys and their big guns are among the worst offenders. They will win the first round on talent, but will struggle to score against any of the final 8 teams. They are an entertaining regular season team that doesn’t seem to be built for the playoffs.
Torts benches captain, Filth beat Leaves 4-3
Agree with TommyG 100% on Miller. Also Fox and sometime Trouba make some terrible mistakes with and without the puck.
So sad about Chris Simon and yes our Mr Rempe should look real hard at what kind of player he wants to be and what it will do to him in 30 years.
I think coming down the stretch the Rangers should give key players nights off and if our defense is ever whole the same for them. Like a lot of you have said winning regular season games is all good, but the goal is to win the Cup. Oh well. Back to work against “Bean town Bozo’s” tomorrow and the road to victory. LGR
I looked at Valikat’s expected goals numbers for last night. The Rangers out chanced the Jets 38 to 23, but most of those were low and mid danger chances where they held a 30 to 14 advantage. The sheer number of low risk shots they took allowed them win the expected goal contest, but neither team scored on any of those which is what happen against top goalies. Clear sight shots from above the circles don’t beat NHL goalies. They just pad the save %. The high danger chances were 9 to 8 Jets and they scored on 3 while the Rangers scored 2.
The Rangers routinely allow a high number of HD chances as a result of poor “puck management.” Trading chances often works during the regular season, but won’t in the post season when top teams won’t play that game and the Rangers can’t or won’t adjust.
The odds on those “low danger” chances are low, but the odds of them turning into a deflection or rebound opportunity are zero if you don’t take them. The top 6 in particular are a pass-first group and a lot of the time there wasn’t a better play available other than forcing a wish pass, so I’m okay that they opted for shot volume against a strong D and top goalie. They did get their fair share of high danger chances too, just failed to convert them. Of course there were, as usual, plenty of clear view long shots into the logo as well.
They are what they are; if Bread, Fox, Mika and Trouba play well in playoffs; the team will do well. That is approx 50% of the cap…
second tier by cap monies is Shesty, Kreider, Trochek
Laffy and Kakko living up to their draft position would probably help as well…
With few exceptions we have our knickers in a twist about the playoffs, even after watching (some of us) a terrific game last night, between two excellent teams, which obviously could have gone either way. But, oh, no, individual players on both teams made individual mistakes—gasp!—so clearly neither is a playoff contender despite the elite goaltending. Better they’d lost a lot more games, squeaked into the PO’s but appeared somehow to be more playoff-y? LGR, fun, memorable season!
I love Finland. Joining NATO keeps them smiling.
Offensive DMen who suck or struggle with defense get paid probably double what a competent, physical, stay positioned DMan makes. Any wonder why so few choose the second way?
Beezle
Thank you, how do I become a Finn?
NYR went 1-1 against WPG this season with 5 GF and 5 GA (+1 ENG). They played a close game last night without, arguably, their two best defensive D men in the lineup. A few egrgious giveaways aside, some Shesty bailed them out on, some not, they played a competitive game.
Monday morning QB, but they could have used Rempe, or at least his style of play. NYR were most dangerous in the last two minutes when they consistently went to the net.
*egregious
‘I want to go Andorra
Andorra, Andorra
It’s a place that I adore
They spent four dollars and ninety cents
On armaments and their defense
Did you ever hear of such confidence?
Andorra, hip hoorah!’
Those who question Kreider’s guts never stood net front facing 100 MPH high slappers.
Norm you watched a different game.
ORF – I said basically the same last night. Perimeter shots are not going to beat that goalie. Need traffic in front and guys willing to get beat up for rebounds/deflections. There was far too little of that last night which is why the final score is what it was.
Gravy they could have used Rempe because a) he goes to the front and b) he puts fronts to the front. They didn’t lose because Lindgren and Trouba were out.
Listened to Torts presser for amusement factor. One thing he said a few times about his young guys was getting them to understand situations, ie situational awareness. I wish NYR coaches could get Miller and a few others to understand that you can’t be turning over pucks like gifts against a teamp like WPG. One thing if you lose in a battle on the boards, just don’t dish them away.
whoops … “puts pucks to the front”
Brooks: Rempe skating with Goodrow, Vesey; Wennberg with Cuylle, Kakko; Brodzinski as extra D.
If they play the same game against the bee’s they’ll be 45-21-4
Game was very even..one team got an additional bounce and a defensive breakdown
Rangers had plenty of chances…Helleybuck is a Vezina candidate
Ullmark and Swayman, both Walruses.
Crash the net boys.
75% of the goalies in league are walruses… have to get them moving and provide traffic
Have to get them moving and provide traffic. Translation, crash the net!
Walrus a brilliant commercial. Buffalo Wild Wings sophomoric and irritating.
Chris Christie now available full time in net.
Have to get them moving or provide traffic. The Rangers got two of the variety low-to-high, screen-tip-rebound, and zero lateral-pass goals. You can not win NHL games if all you do is chip and chase, or if all you do is pass laterally. You have to be able to do both or you’re too easy to defend. It’s not “pond hockey” when Panarin, Fox or Zibanejad find or threaten to find the open man across the ice for a goal. It forces defenders to commit. Nor is it the only way to win to play North-South. There isn’t a good team in the league that can’t do both, but you never hear someone say the Rangers or some other fast, high-skill team got away from the East-West game that had them up two goals. It’s a strange bias, I suspect born of fans’ misapprehension that even they could screen the damn goalie, even if they could never create offense a la Panarin.
They scored goals when they made him move. They need traffic and need to crash the net. Long shots into the catching glove or logo are useless unless you just are looking for an end zone faceoff.
Camp net-front and no flybys.
Kakko’s smiling on the inside. He doesnt want to make you feel bad by showing it off.
‘I’ll do my cryin’ in the rain…’
NEW POST.
