NY Rangers (41-18-4) vs. NJ Devils (31-29-4)
When: 11 Mar at 7:00 p.m. EDT @ Madison Square Garden
TV/Radio: MSG, NHLN /98.7 FM
As there is another game in just a few hours, no postgame post! The summary is: Rangers 3 Derbils 1. Zibanejad (20) scored a 5v5 goal, first in 30 games. Gustafsson (6) scored, largely due to Rempe blinding the goalie. Rempe was having a good game until he led with his elbow on a check, knocking the block off a Derbil. NYR kill the 5 minute major (only gave up 2 shots) but Rempe also was ejected and probably has a sitdown with league today. Trocheck (24) got the late ENG to seal the win just a minute after Devs made it a 2-1 game late. For the stat heads, NYR won 68% of the FO, had 8 giveaways and 11 takeaways.
The Rangers tonight look to pick up where they left off after Saturday’s complete game win over St. Louis. If the Devils look for something, it is probably the exit door to the season.
Fox is said to be a game time decision tonight, he missed the skate around because of illness. Should he be unable to go, Ruhwedel will draw in. Indications are Quick will get the nod in goal tonight, otherwise same lineup as Saturday.
Devils will be starting new acquisition Kaapo Kahkonen in goal for the first time. Hopefully the Rangers will welcome him to the metro area with many shots on goal!
The referees tonight are Garrett Rank and Carter Sandlak joined by linespersons Tommy Hughes and Jonny Murray. Rangers might actually get a call or two!
Rangers do need to keep the pedal to the medal, quite a few tougher opponents on the upcoming schedule and Carolina refusing to go away after topping off their forward contingent. So two points is a must tonight. Key to the game: score early and often to make the Devils sad.

FIRST ray of hope that this complete team will become the final answer on our dreams of deep dive in PO
rangers 5
devils 0
gwg : Rempenator
LGR, send these lowlifes back to the swamp!
Quickie needs to bring his A game
hope Rempe stays away from the staged goon war. Keep him on to patrol the ice and protect his mates.
great anthem
esp w Tuba out of the orchestra
Great pass by Laf!!!!
here we go
Woot
Brendan Smith beat like a drum on that one
From now on whenever we score a highlight reel goal, we should just assume it won’t count.
Laffy with the cutback. Panarin with the magic skates!
Here we go again…
Toow
That’s two of those in 2 consecutive games.
Too bad.
Well that stinks.
Forty points for Busto. On to 50.
E3???? Back from the toilet convention?
Weak call. He was leaning over and it hit his back, not the helmet. Weak.
refs off to a good start
HIT. FRIGGIN. HUGHES.
Be specific
I was going to but then I got too into the game lol
that was an absolutely HORRENDOUS power play
Kaapo Hasek is having a good period
‘…NO RELATION..”? KAPPO IS A FIRST NAME, MORON.
why would players with the same first name but different last names be related Sammy?!
And why repeat the comment again?!
Another no name vezina winner in the making
We’d be down a minimum of 2 – nothing if we were facing a real team. Better not bring that crap to Carolina tomorrow.
Kakko are you suggesting that Hughes should be Remped?
I retract my earlier statement :^(
Hughes would skate right under Rempe’s legs
E3 wishes their names were Kraapo
Can one of you guys please explain what is wrong with Fox? On the power play another crap play almost cost the a goal and on the very next shift he makes another bonehead play. He is not even being hit, just a lot of unforced errors. Like I said, What the heck?
Forget Miller, our allstar, norris trophy winner looks like crap.
LGR!
Fox already gets too many minutes every night. Perfect chance to get a night off because he’s not feeling well. Instead, he’s out there on the ice again. That’s part of what is wrong with Fox
This game should be 3-0 already.
Bez, you are probally right. Gotta love the warrior mentality, lets win in March so our best d man plays like crap the rest of the season.
Wennberg skating is elite, Derbils had trouble moving puck up middle with him in the middle of 1-3-1
Giveaways
Rangers 1
Derbils 0
WHAT THE F@#$ game are these guys watching??!!
If Zib never appears in the regular season he can’t disappear in the playoffs. Good news.
1-3-1 is great if your team doesn’t back up all the time. Smh
wait, the secondary stats are not accurate?.
3rd time a charm?
Hopefully they didn’t blow their power play load last game.
Way to play like you have 3 brain cells
seems like 56 is more noticeable tonight than 23
HOLY SPIT!! WTF kinda bullspit call was that??!!!
Interference my arss…
Rangers almost let Hughes pull a McDavid and just skate through a backing up, pokechecking trio of blue shirts.
l Love that! Kakko went to the net!
Hope they counted that giveaway….
Kakko missed it stopped stroking Lucy Hughes
Another probably uncounted giveaway
I had to look twice, I thought I had the Devils feed.
I would love to see Rempe CRUSH Hughes
That’s like 3 giveaways in a minute. All beginning in the Rangers defensive zone.
forecheck works!
The 17 year even strength schneid is over!!!!!!
Why won’t anybody shoot from the slot
ZBad is alive?
Woot?
Gravy lol
Sam and Joe jinxed Mika’s streak. Finally using their powers for good!
Olga anything special on tap tonight? I’m drinking vicariously through you
lol, wwpd!
Now he can disappear in the playoffs!
Roslovic won’t get an assist, but his forecheck created the play.
Toronto might still negate the goal…
Why don’t they just all hang out at the offensive blueline and let Quick stop the puck and pass it up to them? That’s basically what they’re doing defensively. Yikes.
Sorry Beez just some PBR production beer.
Why are they trying to shoot from Marty St. Louis’ spot?
Way to go, Laffy!!
Penalty for playing hockey. Holy hell these refs are in rare form tonight!
clean hit. Bull-schnitz
ridiculous call
what kind of a weak ass call is that?
Too many refs on the ice…
what in the actual f
Garbage boarding call of the day
If the Rangers get a breakaway, the refs will probably call a high stick on the guy shooting.
Olga, why apologize for PBR? I like PBR.
I may have to add this officiating crew in the ‘oh no, look out boys’ category.
Not a penalty.
Need to create Hughes more PP time because people are paying to watch him play
Someone ask Sam if Dawson Mercer is related to Richard Dawson.
Dang – was hoping for a Jacque-in-the-box there
the Hughes brothers are delicate flowers
they play with non check rules
far cry from the Staal brothers let alone the sutters or the chucks
anymore giveaways recorded….
Panarin went to the net instead of forcing pass, good tendency
Remplestilskin in front
Holy crap! We scored in the last minute of a period and not the other way around! WOOHOO!!
Woot woot
stuck with devils broadcast
ugh. Hate blackout rules
also made it so DVR function wasn’t smart enough to switch to msgsn to record
so I picked up halfway through the second. Dumb
56>23 tonight
Rempe being Rempe
Beez, doctor said I have to cut down so I only drink beer with three letters…
LGR = Let’s Go Rempe!
just keep shoot it at the South Tower
Rempe’s gonna see the circus clowns in the NHL office.
That was a penalty.
Chris Neil did that for a living without issue
Good Rempe, bad Rempe. See if he gets away with it.
So much for the shutout…..
now Goody is gonna have to fight McDermid in 3rd
Rempe was going well until he threw that elbow. He may get a couple of games off for it.
Another unintentional but bad play
The kid will learn and the coaches will make sure he does.
Nope. Dumbass. Going to take a while for the staff to coach that garbage out of him. Teammates need to pick him up now.
No intent, but he’s going to sit a game for that that
We’ll find out about the fine/suspension tonight or early tomorrow because they play tomorrow night.
Johnny B. will get to play in Carolina.
Half-solid period?
Lavy needs to make a point about not engaging the Derbils in the shenanigans next period. Let them take penalties and skate away.
Geez, calm down boys and girls. Rempke is not the first nor will he be the last NHL player to get an elbow up.
Rempe has his imprint all over this game?
who was Schmeider’s partner giv8ng up those odd man rushes all period?
just win baby
Saint Louis XIV shutting out the B’s 4-0.
a lot pearl clutching going on
oh! That brute! Puleeze remove him immediately. At once, I say.
Bring edstrom, 4th line needs a tower
gotta keep the elbow down
agree with the call
wish mcdermid was also out of the game. May get ugly at the end
not malicious, just reckless, especially coming off a goal. plays like that is why likely too big a gamble to play him the in the playoffs
The downside of being the tallest guy on the ice in that your elbows are around the same height as the other guy’s head.
Pete, Rempke better play in the playoffs – when forecheck and mucking up the front of the net is critical as every inch of ice is a battleground.
John Lennon – John the wad Holmes …no relation
True PB, but 5min major like that in a playoff game can be devestating to the least
Rempsanity not likely to last into the playoffs. Too much to learn too quickly.
yo headzo
are NHL players shorter than the guys Rempe has been playing against for the rest of his prior career?
WOW.
What. A. Kill.
Semi-large kill?
Defense!
Joe Strummer …. Joe DiMaggio….no relation
Gus bone head pass to the front of his crease. Why??
Cuylle is everyplace when he’s on the ice
This team must have the NHL record for turnoves just inside the offensive blueline. They also must have the NHL record for how many times those plays have led to a two on one, two on none and breakaways.
E3 – been a while. Thought you might be convalescing with Carp.
*turnovers too
Gustafson’s skating is superb – very good forward wise…
Schneider noticeably better paired with Miller. Good chemistry.
Joe Mamma…. Joe Grammie… relatives.
Joe Mama and Joe Frazier, first cousins
Jones and Gusty also looking good together.
e3 was on the can, obviously.
Does Kakko understand team hockey. Skating around like he’s in a mite practice 8n the dzone
E3’s back… We’re gonna need a bigger can,
Is this the night that Goodrow scores too?
Wennberg has a sick handle, looks like he is doing yo-yo tricks
BOOM! Got that trivia question.
Wyatt Earp, Y.A Tittle —- no relation
Can they score on PP at least for the sake of statistic – to make it 1 in 4. Please.
haula with the slewban slewfoot
How can the power play look THIS awful after their last game???
We’re back to the stupid cross ice passes. See what a lead does to this team?
salmon Joe said Jack off his stick
Get ready for the Chinese fireplace
Nobody is as allergic to the net as the Rangers forwards are. The boards are like Linus’ blanket to them.
It was a lost of concentration…
The 75 guests in the last 2 minutes and no time in the offensive zone probably led to that.
interference, nothing to see here
And, hhere we go
*giveaways
damn phone
Smoking in the dynamite shed
Dump and giveaway is the Rangers most common play this period.
Schneids had to rip that puck around
Schneider with major screen on quickie
Thank God
thanks Tro whew
Lousy PP made this a close game.
Who added the wood to the Chinese fireplace?
i can’t believe Trochek didn’t pass that to Vesey. Selfish.
Woot woot woot?
Zac Jones – good no trade by Drury
1 goal given up in 2 games. I’ll take that
110 days since Quick’s last shutout.
weak clear syndrome a lot of these guys. need to hit the wrist weights?
Zac had a good game, no doubt.
3 in a row v Derbils
Quick = bust
Hopefully they leave this game on the tarmac tonight. They get crushed tomorrow night playing like tonight.
Wennberg controlling the puck makes a huge difference on that line
good job giving Gusto a star of the game
box score has Derbils with zero giveaways and NYR with 8; sounds right?
Worst first place team in the division
SN said Jack Off
Jake Allen……Jake from State Farm
no relation
SN said huge
They were soooooo close to keeping Hughes off the score sheet.
headzo said bust
Beezle said wood
ORF said PP
corporal clegg said quickie
SN, do you ever remember watching a game where a team had absolutely zero giveaways? That’s crazy of them.
Also, the Rangers had at least 8 giveaways in the second half of the third period. Smh
neither team had a give-a-way. I counted zero hits combined as well…
Zac Jones Brown band struck the right tunes tonight
Jack Off, Jack Hughes. Any relation?
Buffalo Bill ……Buffalo Sabres…..no relation
the boys looked good. Hope Rempenator doesn’t get put in detention. I expect 1 game but hope it’s not tomorrow night.
maybe they just ground him for the resting day Wednesday because he’s a good kid. no playstation or Instagram
take his phone and the remote away
Then who am I going to play PlayStation with?!
Lindy Ruff and Paul Linde; kissing cousins
no desert for Rempe. Straight to bed.
Zac Jones is less of a heart attack back there than Gustafsson is now. And Rempe need not act like a child waving at benches. Just smiling and laughing at them is enough.
still astounded the rangers managed to sneak two past the Great Wall of Kahkonen
Some of Rempe’s stuff is just being a kid. He’s seems to be coachable. They need to rein him in a bit without neutering. He was having a good night and blew off McDermid which I’m sure he was instructed to do. That’s progress. They don’t want him to stop hitting.
Carolina main thug sleeps well tonight. Doesn’t have to throw the now de rigueur every night challenge to Rempe.
Miller, no relation to Millard Fillmore, sux it up again (to anyone who knows what they’re looking at.) e.g.: two odd man rushes against IN A ROW.
Back-to-back strong nights for Miller-Schneider, for anyone who doesn’t have stra-a-ange ax to grind. Fillmore was terrible, played like a dead man.
As to former cult hero Rempe, that little grin-and-wave was beyond bush league. Embarrassing.
Sans errant elbow, classy, confident show by #73.
Delinquent, incompetent zebras should have removed MacDermid from the ice long B4 they actually did.
#23 not taking the night off tells us, class, that the Coach and the GM know hush-hush that we are challenged on D. And don’t proffer the simplistic Trouba rebuttal, por favor.
Fifth Row Miller. Wandering shuffleboarder par excellence.
Sammy Rosen and Sammy Sosa, no relation
Kings made themselves useful last night, btw.
I watch the game on NHL network starting at 8:30. So I couldn’t post anything. It’s always a pleasure beating the little devils.
Will not be surprised if Rempe is given at least one game off by the NHL.
I’m not a habitual KAM basher, but the odd man rushes are reflective of his questionable decision making, especially in the neutral zone. He attempted a poke check near the red line and got neither the puck nor the man leading to a clean breakaway from the blue line in. Lavy’s system that encourages the left D to step up and challenge in the neutral zone may highlight his shortcomings. Many of the odd man rushes he allows result from a failed attempt to break up a play in the neutral zone leaving him flatfooted behind the play.
Speaking of bad decision making, Luke Hughes made a truly half a$$ed effort on Trocheck’s ENG. The Rangers were probably going to score anyway if Trocheck passed to Vesey, but Hughes took a bad angle and let Vinny slip between him and the boards. There’s no way that should have happened. At least force him to make a good pass. I saw him twice in the Frozen Four with Michigan. The first time his skill was obvious and he was actually more noticeable than Owen Powers who was a 1OA pick. The second time it was very apparent that he played very little D. Lots of college teams have a D who is essentially a rover who drives their offense. His teammates have to continually cover for him. That doesn’t always translate to an NHL defenseman.
The canes on the back end of the back to backs will be a real test especially without Trouba. They have had problems with team that forecheck aggressively. They could spend a lot of time in their end tonight if they don’t pay attention to detail on their breakouts. They will also need to have Igor wring his A game. LGR!
Notwithstanding the Canes flattened the Rangers when they last played during Lost January, I usually expect a good high energy match up between these two.
Seems like the Canes are always high energy but it takes two to tango.
Game thread has been updated with a brief summary. Game tonight so just keep going on this one!
Jones played a good game last night. That we did not hear his game in the same context as Miller is testament to that. ORF with good observation on KAM. I still go back to the coaching and ask why we continue to see more or less the same errors/poor puck decisions.
No Trouba tonight is not good. Gave a thought that maybe they would put in Ruhwedel instead of Jones, but he’s not that much bigger than a pony either at 5’11 191 (Jones is listed 5’11, 185).
