The New York Rangers are back indoors after an exciting game at MetLife Stadium, where they won in overtime against the New York Islanders. They will now be hosting the Dallas Stars, who are in a back-to-back situation after playing against the Boston Bruins on Monday afternoon. The Stars have been playing some solid hockey recently, but they are up against a red-hot Rangers team that has won seven straight games and is currently sitting atop the Metropolitan Division.
Madison Square Garden is a tough arena for visiting teams to come in and win, as the Rangers tend to play their best hockey there. Their special teams have been impressive this season, ranking fourth in the league for powerplay and sixth for penalty kill. New York has plenty of dynamic offensive players, with four players having 50 or more points and Adam Fox with 45 points. The Rangers’ depth is incredibly hard to shut down.
The Stars have been playing differently this season compared to previous years when they were known for their tight defensive play. They are now the league’s highest-scoring team, but they are allowing more than three goals per game, which is not their usual style. If they find themselves in an offensive battle with the Rangers, they may be outmatched.

I notice the same pattern in our two supertalents – Panarin and Fox – sometimes they are both kind of slightly lazy arrogant, making the plays in carelessness way.

I hate it when a Ranger is coming down the slot with a good shot opportunity and passes to the left or right of the net. I cannot understand that.

using Rempe strategically; allows Tro to play some shifts with Goody and Edstrom on wings; esp after PP and PK where the lines are all mismatched.
There was one play when Edstrom reached and knocked the puck away from a Stars player up on the half wall from about 20 feet away from the player.
Lost in Igor’s heroics was the crappy D being played.
Edstrom and Rempe had 12 hits in limited ice time. That line was like the Hanson brothers. The entire team had 34. The opposition needs to keep their heads up when they are on the ice. They out hit the Stars 34 to 14. Possession wasn’t that lopsided so it wasn’t just because they didn’t possess the puck. The Stars looked like a finesse team last night. The Rangers didn’t.
I want to rave about the play of the twin towers. Combined for 9 hits and showed some hockey skills as well. Based on deployment though doesn’t look like coach thinks they’re ready for prime time depth roles yet and either they convince him the next couple of weeks or we see it addressed before the deadline. The plan probably not to enter the playoffs with a short bench. I’m pulling for them.
Rempe needs to work on his skating ..don’t see him as a playoff piece
He led that one good rush where he outskated everyone, near the end of a shift if I recall. Hopefully that means some upside to his skating game still.
Rempe looked just fine skating, big guys cover the ice faster than you think. On top of that he hit everything the moved, and hit them hard.
Wennberg doesn’t move the dial for me even if they eat cap. 8G 14A in 55G with 18:40 ATOI and not good 46.2 FO%.
That is not an upgrade and is 14lbs lighter than Brodude. Seriously, if that is the best they can do to at 3C, then put the effort/assets elsewhere.
Minx have to see both Rempe and Edström show they can play solid defense/puck possession and not be a liability. Banging heads is great but not enough. Otherwise 4th line is not going to be too useful.

They talked a bit in the postgame about it but it seems right now Kakko needs to be ‘the guy’ on his line. Not out of arrogance but just not putting his own skills backseat to Kreider/Mika/Bread etc. Hoping is confidence and moxy continues to grow heading into the playoffs.

$12,500 raise; guy needs to figure out the Dzone; skating around like a headless chicken a lot last night. Has two possession monsters on his line; ironically he was known as a sniper in AHL but haven’t seen it with the big boys yet. Will defer to staff but an upgrade is needed to make some hay.
Tro will get burned out playing 25 TOI in the final stretch; need a 3C/4C pker to alleviate some of the burden.
SN they will at some point get a “real” 3C. Brodude then moves down to 4C where we always seem to be lacking in speed. Pair him with one of the Lurches and Goody.

Rempe looked fine to me skating. I loved how he skated with the puck through the neutral zone, shot the puck into the stars zone and proceeded to smash the defensemen. That’s what you need in the playoffs to wear down the defense.
