There is not much to say after a game like this.
Here are notes from the team’s website.
- Chris Kreider extended his point streak to a career-long tying ( Jan. 27-Feb. 17, 2023,
Oct. 29-Nov. 10, 2022) seven games (3G-7A) and has 12 points (5G-7A) in his last 10 games. Kreider recorded his 166th career goal at Madison Square Garden (regular season and playoffs) to surpass Rod Gilbert for the most in the building’s history. - Artemi Panarin notched an assist, giving him points in five-straight games (6G-2A), 10 of his last 11 games (7G-7A) and in 15 of his last 18 games (13G-12A). Panarin has recorded a point in 30 games this season, tied for the most amount in the NHL (Nathan MacKinnon and William Nylander). His 51 points rank third in the NHL (23G-28A).

Agreed. Unfortunately this organization is unable to rebuild the right way. In a few years we will see another “Retool” and then, we the fans are left with rinse/repeat.
I’m not talking Enforcers, I’m talking martial toughness. How many times do I have to explain myself to argumentative dolts?
It seems some have forgotten this is still a cotton candy crew!
I know they don’t use tape anymore – except on their hands. It’s a figure of speech.
I see way too much complaining about officiating. It’s becoming a crutch to excuse bad play. They miss calls both ways. The officials don’t beat you 6-1. You bring that on yourself.
Play gets serious after 1/1. The contenders dig in and the pretenders fade. By 2/1 we will know where they fit in. Like St. Pete I have learned to manage my expectations.
I’m still upset and unsettled over last night’s embarrassment. It’s one thing to lose 4-0 or 6-1 to a team out of the playoffs—understandable not to get up for every game. This one, however, against a team you’ve met in the playoffs recently-a team in second place and starting to feel really good about themselves-you allow them to come to your home rink and run up the score?? Unacceptable. Sorry.
You should have said martial toughness but referenced Cullye as designated tough guy—and one to constantly serve as our enforcer/big brother. I’ve been pushing for some beef for the lineup by deadline…eg Maroon specifically
i wonder how many cups we would have won if league stayed at 6 teams all these years without the territorial rights to players teams used to have
over a 80 game season you are going to have klunkers
They are 7-6 in the last 13 games. That’s more representative of the roster than the early season success when they were defensively structured and disciplined. They look like GG’s teams now. Igor also seems to be a head case.
Maroon is colorful.
re: Playoffs. – Offense often comes and goes. Good Defense is there nightly.
They aren’t as good as their record.
I suspect there will be plenty of other “reminders”:
Carolina, Islanders, Vancouver, Toronto….
Carolina looks to have either circled this game on the calendar or just decided to view it more as a playoff preview. The Rangers viewed it as a post NYE annoyance. Igor didn’t look good and the team as a whole looked poor. Coaching staff had no adjustments (or any that the players would carry out).
This should be a gong show wake up call, especialy to the top two lines. Carolina played them exactly the way any other playoff team would be expected to come at them. Whatever they chose to do last night will not work in the playoffs, no matter how many power plays the refs might gift them (likely few).
at least we know that the cup chances for our guys are very minimal. so enjoy other aspects of life.
and root like heck against the devs and isles. we don’t need that scenario of their fans shoving it in our faces. we might need carolina to knock one or both of those out. the enemy of my enemy is my friend
Uncle Larry telling it like it is re 5v5 scoring:

I love your optimism. But they can’t let the Canes come into their house and trash the place. Since they did with little push back there’s a much bigger problem down the road. Brodzinski, Wheeler, Pitlick, and Bonino will be exposed when the going gets tougher. Fox is not Fox, and Shesterkin is too inconsistent.
St Eli: bingo.
It’s unfortunate, but you are right. This team isn’t ready as currently constructed.
I’m guessing Drury is well aware of what needs to be done. He’ll do what’s doable.
Famous last words:
1. We can put pure skill on the ice without worrying about any protection/pushback for our plethora of fragile skill players.
2. No such thing as momentum.
3. The enemy are all dead, Sarge. I’m going to go out there and get some souvenirs.
how did they trash the place and who exactly was intimidated? It was an even game until Shesty blundered on the 3rd goal. They are 2nd overall in points without one of their centers and top 9 wingers for an extended period. Drury knows what he needs and he’s crushed the last several deadlines.

Like I said, I love your optimism.
easier to be optimistic with solid GM and coach
I’m really sour about last night’s game where the supposedly elite Rangers were RUN OUT OF THEIR OWN BUILDING.
Bobby is optimistic – but not unrealistic. Right now, I just don’t like what I’ve been seeing. Shesterkin needs to grow a pair. Richter/Hank/Quick never got rattled like Shesty (and Sorokin) seem to.
Our 5 on 5 Dinamo’s face the fishsticks for the 1st time on 2/18/24. The dirty devils and filth in the same week. Will they man up or fold like a cheap suit? Will they still on top in the Metro?
C’mon gang. Sh*t happens. The Canes themselves got trounced by the Bolts 8-2 on Nov. 24 and by the Oilers 6-1 on Dec. 12. These games happen to the best of teams. To me what’s most concerning is that the Rangers have only won once all season when trailing by 2 goals and never if down by three.
Unlike Dallas for example, that has won such games 6 times. https://morehockeystats.com/teams/strikebacks
TRAID EVERYONE!
Good stat lj …. guessing other teams know if they get a lead you just stay out of the box and key on Pararin line

Beezle
If he sees the ice at least he’ll hit something.
twitter will explode if he doesn’t get top 6 minutes and pp time
Minx are you suggesting a Lisa Andersson like debut?
Larry Brooks
@NYP_Brooksie
Will replace Pitlick, who is week-to-week with lower body issue. Interesting time for promotion for Othmann, on a nine-game goaless streak, but a pretty decent birthday present for the lad who turns 22 on Friday.
We got any more exciting prospects stashed away or is MOthmann the last one in the cupboard?
Not overly excited by the Mothman. But we shall see how he does with 4th line minutes.
They wouldnt bring him up not to play…think he will play on Cullye line
Why Othman? The kid isn’t ready yet. Let him marinade with the pack. Why not just use Adam Edstrom?
Othmann* Marinate*
Otter ready to provide some jump. Pitlicker adds little. Bottom 6 looked slow and unable to hit anyone last night.
50 remains a beast
Canes play a very unique style that relies on them getting the lead. Those 2 first period calls were bs.
SN,
Again- Edstrom.
He really impressed in his first call-up.
Deserves another shot.
…unless they’re looking at Edstrom strictly as a center. In which case, I guess it’s a positional need to bring Othmann up.
Always trust the Ranger organization they know what they’re doing.
Always Eli!! Never made a bad move in Sammy’s book!
Let’s do both; these aren’t kids. Otter is 22; Endstrom is 23; let’s goooo!
I’d have thought Edstrom too, for a week-to-week fill in, but someone clearly thought it would be of use to see MOthmann buzz around a bit in the majors so I hope we get a good show!
We’re showcasing Othmann so we can ship him to Tampa as part of a trade for Stamkos. Wouldn’t that be such a Rangers thing to do?
how can we afford stamkos under the cap. unless we trade an extra number 1 to get them to retain and also dump chytil in the deal.
Moth Balls
I’m hungry…
Not a Drury thing to do
Nobody is taking Chytil.
Chytil could be their biggest addition for playoffs
It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. What can you say.
A Tale of Two Cities, damnit, by Charles D, (who the censor will not allow to be named.) Childish.
‘moderation,’ my azz.
st pete
they might if we also gave othmann and a 1st
not saying i’d do that deal and i hope the rangers don’t
Mothman!
Maybe a throw-in like kakko
Bobby – I appreciate your optimism as well. Like many others here, I find last nights loss concerning. Being dominated by a likely playoff opponent in your own building should be concerning. Not to mention it’s the team coming up behind you in the standings. This is not the first time we have watched them being dominated by an opponent that doesn’t give them time and space, as they don’t seem to know how to alter their game and/or fight through it.
Drury has done a decent job the last two trade deadlines, but that gets harder to do each deadline, as they have less salary cap space and less assets to trade. Additionally, as you trade more and more of those draft picks or assets, there is a price to pay down the line with organizational depth. The lack of any production from Bonino, Goodrow, Pitlick, Brodzinski (1 goal each) is also concerning. They don’t need to light it up, but 1 goal is what you can expect to get from an enforcer. Rangers need a couple of players that are actually “hard to play against” that have some skill to chip in a few goals. They don’t need to light it up, but you need more production and toughness than they are getting right now and I’m not suggesting an enforcer like Reeves. Wheeler has also not brought what they were hoping for, so that is another hole to fill. That’s a tall order for Drury to make them true contenders.
If Othmann will be a pest and win puck battles and go to dirty areas like they say on top of putting pucks to the net, he might just stick.
Then we’d need a new center for the Cuylle-othmann kid line since the rangers haven’t drafted a good one in living memory.
Tonight would be the perfect game to give Othman-Edstrom-Cullyle a look as a line….
Othmann empire. Turkish delight. Sweet.
So we are saying a team 2nd overall in points is not a contender?
Mothman ate my cashmere sweater and nobody gives a chit.
I coulda been a contender! I coulda been somebody instead of a bum, which is what I am. Let’s face it, Charlie. It was you!’
If they are still 2nd place overall come April, then yeah they just might be a contender. My 2023/2024 mantra remains the same as it was at the start of the season. Low expectations!
Nevertheless, I want the cup, I want the cup.
Buy Dolan’s overpriced throwback jerseys, suckers.
Wait-Terry Malloy was a Ranger fan and Charlie the Gent was Sather?
https://twitter.com/NYP_Brooksie/status/1742930564217442767?s=20
So…who is playing their off side with Othmann call up?
I gues that is why I don’t really get this move. Could easily move Goodrow to RW and put the Giant Swede at 4C
Uncle Larry with the answer:
“Looks like Othmann is with Brodzinski and Bonino while Cuylle skates with Goodrow and Vesey. Top 6 intact.”
If Othman can step in and contribute this season Drury should find that out before deadline.
Would not count on Flip at all; coming back to play playoff hockey after 4th concussion with a playing style that leaves one susceptible to big hits doesn’t bode well.
I would say I told you so about his inability to play smart and fast not just fast but I won’t….
This team has won on defense, special teams, Quick’s comeback and Bread playing out of his mind at ES.
The lack of offense coming from bottom 6 and Mika’s line not consistent at ES are issues along with undersized and slow defense.
Is Gusto a PO type Dman?
Is Fox an ES contributor?
Can they survive with journeyman forwards in bottom 6?
Will Mika be more consistent?
How much can the yutes help?
Is Igor reliable?
Etc etc etc
Time will tell….
SN
My thoughts in a nut shell.
At least beauvillier won’t be playing tonight. That’s already a psychological win.
No problem replacing Gustafsson with a more stay at home defender who can play consistently good defense. Will make Schneider better as well. Shouldn’t be counting on offense from third pair D. Nice if it happens.
Call up Anisimov!
Two third lines?
I didn’t think beauvillier was in anybody’s head but mine
US Junior team looks like the Rangers right now
Tonight’s game is like many this year when they have played down to the competition. I am curious to see if they do that again tonight
Edstrom plays one game and he’s in the HOF. Gotta love Rangers fans. Othmann is just stopping by for a cup of coffee. Same thing they did with Cuylle. Though it would be nice if he got hot, and can replace AAAA.
If the Rangers bring in a center for playoffs its not gonna be Edstrom
I don’t think anyone was suggesting Edstrom would be more than a temporary call up. He did fit the bill though for tonight given Goodrow’s flexibility. But if they want to juggle things and see what Othmann has for a couple games, ok, though off the score sheet in AHL for a bit.
NHL stats people wrote back. At least for NYR, all the 5v5 TOI have been corrected, at least to something that looks a lot closer to what it should be. Wouldn’t be suprised if it was a league wide error. Was obvious something wrong when they listed Brodude with just 2:12 of 5v5 TOI/GM.
Othman looked good in preseason
Even if he’s not scoring in AHL there have been those that say that the NHL game is more structured and guys being where they need to be that it can be harder to get going down in The aHL
Good for him to get a look and feel for some reg season games while there is an opening.
Nice to see original Rangers,Stan Fischler back covering NYR fo hockey news. Not bad for a 91 year old geeezer. LGR

The wordpress comment moderation does not distinquish between badword A and badword B that also contains badword A. Unfortunately, that does mean that some words that should not go to spam do. Better that than the alternative. Both CCCP and myself try to check the comments moved to spam, but it will never be in real time and is most likely to be closer to that only during the game threads. We do what we can.
Maybe The Mothman gets a Gordie Howe hat trick tonight.
*NEW POST*
MOthmann will get about 7 minutes ice time to nibble some Blackhawk sweaters flanking the mighty Bonino
