Looking to change things up, the Rangers beat a team they were expected to beat in fairly handy fashion.
Though the shots on goal were close (NY 39, ANA 30), the outcome really was not. The star of the game was Kreider who had two goals – the first assisted by huggy twin Zibanejad, the second on the PP from Panarin and Fox. With the two goals, Kreider took sole possession of the third spot on the all-time Ranger goals list(281). With the PPG, he hit the 100 goal mark, tied for fourth in Ranger history.
In both cases, Adam Graves was the prior holder of that position. There is a very good chance Kreider could pass Leetch (106) and Gilbert (108) on the PPG list this season, but probably not all-time leader Camille Henry (116). It is a much longer way to go to get to second place on the all-time goals list, held by Jean Ratelle (336) and first, held by Rod Gilbert (406).
Quick was again very good in goal, giving up one goal on 29 shots. Perhaps a few more rebounds than desired and he had some puck luck as the Rangers were not the best at keeping Anaheim away from the crease.
The game started with the Ducks’ Leason finding the net first at 13:30 of the opening period, delivering a low shot from the circle. This triggered some worry in Ranger land as giving up the first goal has been a hallmark of their recent difficult stretch of games.
However, the Rangers responded swiftly with Kreider’s equalizer at 17:06, taking advantage of a defensive error by the Ducks. “Mr. Game Winning Goal” Vesey did it once again, putting the Rangers ahead for good with a goal at 11:45 in the second period of a pass from Fox.
Kreider’s hand-eye skill was on full display as he notched his second goal and the team’s third on a power play at 16:19 of the second, tipping the puck past the Ducks’ Dostal from the side of the net.
The third period saw Zibanejad get his ninth goal of the season on another Ranger power play, assisted by Panarin at 15:26. The final score of the game, coming moments before the buzzer at 19:57, was on a shot from the Swedish Giant, AHL call-up Edstrom, the first of his NHL career and assisted by Goodrow and Schneider.
Notes: Edstrom found out during warm-ups that he would play after Bonino told him he was not feeling well. Goodrow and Vesey both were wearing full face shields (not quite cages).

Observations:
1/ Disappointed that Pitlick did not also wear the full face gear in sympathy with Goodrow and VC
2/ The Giant skates really well for someone that is 200.7cm tall!
3/ Could easily have been 0-2, even 0-3 early in the first. Way too much action right in front of Quick. Don’t do that tonight.
Minx, my condolences on the loss of the kitty. Always so difficult.
Beezle
Thanks.
Eli – we put down our 19yo super senior cat 🐈⬛ this Fall. Was a giveaway from a local Crazy Cat Lady who had over 15 cats living with her so at any time plenty of kittens to chose from. Not a pure breed and judging by his kill rate, we presumed he was a miniture panther. Indoor/outdoor cats living past 10 years is rare so he was one of a kind.
Some talk on X (formerly known as Twitter) about 20 getting retired one day. I think if Kreider were to be traded today, that talk probably goes away somewhat. But he’s got the rest of this season, plus three more to go on a salary cap friendly contract. If he remains a Ranger those years, he’s probably knocking on 400 goals and first on the list at 406. That gets his number retired cup or no cup.

Sigh.. not sure why the prior link is not loading. It is a video tribute narrated by Graves, includes the goals from the game last night.
sorry for your loss Pete
Could Edstrom be the elusive checking 3C we have been talking about for at least 5 years?
SN
Our cat was 15 years 4 months.
bobbyo
That would leave me speechless If Edstrom was the answer to the elusive question.
Have not seen much of him obviously Pete but hes has the size and looks pretty agile for a big man.
Does Isles poor Sharon understand that 7 o r 8 one point losses don’t count in the Stanley Cup. Hello boy do I hate that team and their stupid fans.
Does anybody have the real take on KAM. very mysterious
The fact that the Islanders are even in the conversation right now is tribute to both Bettman’s stupid one point losses and the overall arrogance of their fanbase, who act as if they are hockey’s version of the NY Yankees.
Add to this: Butch Goring is just awful behind the mic. Homering is one thing, but this guy comes up with bumbling excuses as to how the Islanders were “owed” a makeup call to give them a PP in OT (which they did nothing with).
B*tch Goring
Thanks Admiral for your comment. Goring Is the freeken,” King of Homers” he is so one sided on everything ISLES. I think that ugly Helmut he used to wear when he played was far too tight and has caused damage. But in all fairness he did make a difference in joining the islanders.
Wouldn’t mind Maloney doing color on TV; Joe Missaplenty thinks it’s a national broadcast, sounds like Suzie Milquetoast.
Goring is the analyst for the teams regional broadcast; don’t care if he’s a homer. He’s also willing to criticize their players missteps which Salmon Joe would never do.
Lets hope our goalie tonight has fixed the problem of goals he let’s in high on his glove side. Far too many of those shots have found the back of the net this year. Here’s to positive thought for tonight for Miller and Shesty. LGR
Shesterkin in net = low expectations.
I don’t agree with you, SN.
SalmonJoe – especially Joe – does criticize the team’s missteps. That said, you are correct, Joe does also do national broadcasts.
Goring is beyond a homer — and I say this as a Yankees fan who grew up with Phil Rizzuto. Goring for all he brought as a player comes across as a bumbling old man babbling on and on about the Islanders during his team’s broadcast. It’s awful. Goring makes even Michael Kay seem professional.
Very strange with Miller. He’s healthy, dresses for practices but doesn’t play. Can this be true?
It was a bright, chilly evening, perfect for chowder.
My driveway is perfect conditions for you to practice your luge runs!
Caps, Wizards leaving DC. Crime. What’s becoming of our once great and beautiful Nation?
Crime pays. That’s the new American Way.
