The New York Rangers, who are still 1st in the Metro division, are set to host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night. The Leafs are coming off a back-to-back game that resulted in a hard-fought battle but a loss in overtime. Meanwhile, the Rangers have been resting at home since Sunday night.
The Rangers have been dominating on their home ice this season, winning 9 out of 11 games so far. They have also proven to be a solid defensive team, allowing only 2.69 goals against per game, which is better than the 3.17 goals that the Leafs are averaging.
The Rangers’ goalkeeper, Igor Shesterkin, is expected to start, and even though he hasn’t been playing his best hockey lately, he is still a better option than Martin Jones, who is projected to get his first start of the season for the Leafs. Special teams have been a strong point for the Rangers this season, with the second-best powerplay in the league and one of the best penalty-killing units.
They will need to maintain their good form against the Leafs. On the other hand, defense will be the main focus for the Leafs in this game, as they have no problem keeping up with other teams offensively. However, keeping the Rangers off the scoreboard will be a tough challenge for them.

Sorry, but it’s time to be concerned about this team. They have not played well since the Boston game. They are now looking more like last years team. Bad loss considering Toronto was playing AHL goalie, missing defensemen and played an OT game last night. Another game with little effort and less defense. Now we will see what kind of coach Lav is.

My son played competitive hockey for 8 years. He said the hardest thing he ever had to deal with playing D was having a goalie behind him who couldn’t stop the puck. He said it’s twice the pressure to not make a mistake.
I think Austin Matthew’s with the puck in the offensive zone is harder for A Defenseman to deal with
And maybe Miller is better than some think
For Laviolette to really be successful he needs to stop having Gallant first periods.

Goalies do lose their games. Guys can have a couple of very good years and then lose it. Brian Boucher is one that comes to mind. Hank was an exception. We can’t assume Shesty will have the same trajectory.
