NY Rangers (18-4-1) vs Ottawa Senators (9-10-0)

The NY Rangers, still 1st in the Metro, still 1st in the entire NHL by % and wins, travel to a foreign land for a tilt against the Ottawa Senators (even though their play this season is more akin to a lower ranked centurion). The Rangers will look to again avoid a let down, hopefully by giving up less than five goals. For what ever reason, the Rangers have a habit of making bad teams look good.
Ottawa looked to have been on the upswing after missing the playoffs last season by just six points. Skating backwards, they are now last in the Atlantic division and Eastern conference. However, they did shutout the midly respectable Kraken 2-0 in their last game.
Shesterkin should be in net tonight. Brodzinski will again start on the right of the 1st line. He’s asked that you don’t pinch him lest he wake up and discover it is all just an AHLer’s dream. The Senators have Forsberk in net again tonight after a 39 save effort against the Kraken.
Filip Chytil (upper body) are Kaapo Kakko (lower body) are the only reported NYR injuries. Laviolette said today that Chytil continues to skate and is making progress. On Kakko, he said that he too is making some progress but is well behind where Chytil is. In other words, don’t expect either back in the near future. Ottawa lists Mark Kastelic (high ankle sprain), Thomas Chabot (undisclosed).
Finally, on this date in history, Prohibition ended in the US when the 21st Amendment to the US Constitution was ratified and 18th Amendment repealed (5:32 PM EST)

Love the fact that Uncle Larry is giving us permission to enjoy regular season wins. I am not sure about the rest of you, but I love winning before and after Christmas. I also really like winning in late June when the games have a little more importance. That being said. Lets keep the wins coming and enjoy the contributions of Bread, Johnny B, Laffy, and yes,even my favorite d man Miller. LGR

Wine is flowing freely on the ledge
Playing zero defense. Opponents stationing a forward at the far blue line on the breakout and it is breakaways and odd man rushes all over the place. Not a great night for Shesty but he is not getting much help.
5 goals on 25 shots isn’t great either.
It’s getting concerning that the defensive structure has been thrown out the window and the compete level has also taken a dip. This is now 5-6 games in a row. What happened to the left wing lock? Miller was on for at least 4 goals against in Sharks game and several more tonight. Maybe Lav should remind Miller that he is a defenseman, not a wing. I guess they all heard the salary cap went up, so they are looking to pad their stats and cash in. Laf also can’t buy a goal lately. Lots of grade A chances and nothing to show for it. Hope they wake up for next game.

11 goals against in two games!! Lav better wake them up before this becomes a bad habit. Good start means nothing if that is going to be their game going forward. Reset after the next few days and show up ready to play from opening puck drop. Need to play with some more grit as well.

One of the reasons why the glass is more often viewed as half empty is they rarely win games going away, beginning with the puck drop. They’ve be able to overcome many mistakes and next man up has covered the IR casualties, but eventually things catch up to you.

A truly good team will dominate opponents from start to finish. Not necessarily every single game but more often than not. Rangers haven’t done that too often yet this season which is why the word resilient is so often used to describe them.
