NY Rangers (16-4-1) vs Nashville Predators (11-11-0)

The still 1st in the Metro and still 1st in the entire NHL by % NY Rangers travel for a tilt against the Predators. While the Rangers will be looking to avenge a fragrant early season loss to Nashville, the Preds are trying to get back in the mix in the Central division where they are in 6th place, behind Arizona (!). Just when things were looking up for them (wins against CHI, COL, CGY, STL, WPG and PIT), they got spanked by the Wild 6-1 on Thursday.
The Rangers are coming off a come from behind win over the Red Wings after being embarrassed by Buffalo. Though they played a better structured game, there was still more east-west hockey than the coach and most fans would like. This will be Brodzinski’s second game after being called up from Hartford to replace Kakko on the right side of the 3rd line. Laviolette specifically said the intent was to bring up a player with more offense and not a checking/defensive specialist. Brodzinski was leading Hartford and the AHL in pts/gm (10 game min).
Indications are that Quick will be in net to start the back to back. The Predators return to Saros who was pulled after giving up four to the Wild.
Filip Chytil (upper body) are Kaapo Kakko (lower body) are the only reported NYR injuries. Nashville reports Cody Glass (upper body), Tommy Novak (upper body), Alexandre Carrier (upper body).

The way they play, barely grinding out wins in the poorly played games, means only that the Rangers team this season is the Grand Fluke – one big, longer than usual, prolonged , fluke…it is and will be painful to see them falling down earth.

The only passes he successfully makes to his own teammates are when there’s no one in front of him and a teammate is breaking out of the zone up ice.
Whenever he puts it around the boards 8 times out of 10 it goes to the other team.

Sooner or later, these “it wasn’t pretty, but a win is a win.” games are going to bite them. It’s a matter of time. I don’t know wtf is going on with their team d lately, but it’s looking more and more like last year’s team every day.
They need to get back to structure in their own end along with the neutral zone because they’re playing too wide open and allowing WAY too many chances/giving the puck away.

We get it. They’re winning.
But, there’s nothing wrong with pointing out the obvious- They’re playing with fire lately and sooner or later it’s going to burn them.
So while I’m very happy they’re stockpiling points in a major way early in the season, it’s just that- early in the season.
Furthermore, this type of play in the post-season will get them bounced in round 1.
Forgive me……but it is December and we are winning the December Stanley Cup. Given that I have been on this Earth for 65 years now and have seen one cup win and 2 finals losses in all of those years, I am going to enjoy the way things are going right now. I am impressed with the fight back in this team and with this team having defined roles and systems so quickly when they have Big Country behind the bench. That Nashville team is big and tough and the Rangers found a way. I am almost ready to forgive them for playing like garbage when I went to see them in Dallas.
So it was a 5:30 start. Johnny B contributed. Saul Goodman! I’ll watch the 2nd period tomorrow.

Just catching up on comments …see most of you quit in the first period again…kind of tiresome. Nashville is a big heavy team …not easy to play against …and I think they make the playoffs ..and Shesty is still pretty good
Told my son after the first these are games that are tempting to stop watching. But this is a team that has shown the ability to crawl back and win. So we are not turning it off!

Our team can play in many gears. East-west, North-South. Whatever. They have this overall confidence that with their current structure they can compete with anyone. Laviolette has done a great job of maximizing their effort. Regarding tonight’s game sometimes they take the their foot off the gas and play down to the opponent’s. That’ allowable if they continue at their present pace. I do worry a bit about Shesterken. He’s not the same goalie he was last year. I hope he comes around.
Florida is useless.
I don’t like the Fishsticks winning. I hate that team.
Every team has stretches were their structure breaks down. It’s a long season and hard to be system perfect game in game out. But even then they keep finding ways to win.
