In a dramatic Sunday night showdown, the Rangers staged a remarkable comeback against the Columbus Blue Jackets, culminating in a 4-3 shoout out win that extends their current win streak to four games.
Lafreniere emerged as the hero, scoring the equalizer with just 11 seconds remaining in the third period, and then locking down the win with the only goal in the shootout. This nail-biting finish at MSG left fans wondering where they had dropped their cell phones as the Rangers continued to beat, though not always dominate, their competition so far this season.
The Rangers’ rallied from behind twice and gave up the lead once, with Kreider contributing a goal and an assist, and Panarin setting up crucial plays. Panarin’s two assists tied him with Rod Gilbert’s franchise record for a season-opening point streak, a record that has stood since the 1972-73 season.
The first period saw the Rangers revert back to the soft east-west style of play from previous seasons, though Kreider’s late period goal let them go into the second with a sigh of relief. The second period did not see any improvement, though they briefly had the lead after Lafreneire’s score 11 minutes in. Sloppy play allowed Colombus to tie and regain the lead in the next two minutes.
Despite the loss, the BJs showed tenacity, with Danforth, Fantilli, and Kuraly each getting goals while Gudbranson provided two assists. Goaltender Elvis Merzlikins put up a valiant effort with 37 saves while doing his best Vezina impression. With all that, Columbus still was unable to hold off the Rangers’ aggressive 17-shot onslaught in the third period until the buzzer. Another game where somebody read the riot act to the Rangers during the second intermission!
Quick’s 26 saves were instrumental in keeping the Rangers in contention throughout the game. Quick was a late addition after a successful morning practice meant he was healthy enough to get back in net. Shesterkin remains sidelined with “soreness.”
Once again the team finds itself on the short end of a victory personnel wise, losing Ryan Lindgren early in the 3rd period after being boarded by Kuraly. It looked like an elbow got up high and Robocop’s primary cpu crashed into the glass before the casing came off. Hopefully the damage does not turn out to be significant and that replacement parts are available if needed.
Lindgren and the other injured Rangers will use the upcoming mini-break to try to heal up. No word on what the coach has planned, but a day or two off may be called for after this surprising start to their season. Next game is against the NJ Devils on Saturday, 11/18 at 7:00 PM EST
Of Note: Panarin led wiht 28:02 TOI followed by KAM with 27:29 and Gustafsson at 26:18. The fourth line played just 6 minutes as a group.

Hopefully NYR can get three out of four injured guys back by Saturday and the goalie/2C controversy can begin in earnest!
good write up Beezle..good time to have a week off with all the injuries. Was thinking about James last night after Laffy’s performance. He said this was the year Laffy takes the next step
lol Beez with the Robo replacement parts.
Somebody best remind the zebras and Toronto that they are mere employees to the Big Show and that a lot of hockey’s appeal lies in speed and continuous action especially when compared to football and baseball.
I think Laffy is a confluence of a few things.
1/Panarin is playing much more north south and shooting so Laf is getting chances on rebounds and deflections.
2/Trocheck has found his own game and perhaps because of the change in Panarin’s style he is working well with him unlike last season. That too helps Laffy as time in zone is going to be higher so more chances.
3/And of course, he’s actually kicked it up a gear. Don’t doubt that he’s read some of the press clippings but scoring sure helps with the confidence too.
Beezle
Great write up, you are greatly appreciated by the Minx, and bonehead nation. Lafreniere may have finally figured it out, after really being a year behind due to covid. Having said that, linemates and chemistry seem to have made a difference in his confidence. The talent has always been there. I could be wrong, but maybe Kakko’s sluggish start is tied to Zibanejad looking more like a DJ on the ice.
Beezle
Lol, you read my mind, or did I read yours?
The Beez knees of a write up; well done chap.
Missed the game so read game thread this am; nervous because I noticed the post count at 268 and was worried Verizon started charging by the post but fear not, it was just the game nite wine and cheese party. Sounds like a thick Cab was due given the undue commotion.
Kreider’s pass to Laffy was just amazing and Gusto is playing with a lot of…how do you say… gusto!!
23 of 28 points biatches!
Minx if you are truly reading my mind, can you let me know what is written on all the rocks inside of it? 😁
Thank goodness we won despite the most horribly reffed game of the year
Kevin Pollack always has it out for the rangers
Even Sam and Joe were disagreeing which is not easy to make them do with that much force
Vally in the intermission also confirmed that even since his playing days the Rangers never seem to get the calls.
Especially on video reviews.
Would love to know what the actual reason was that differentiated the major from a minor on lindgren
(How about a double minor with a board and an elbow???)
Also, there was no way physics wise and common sense wise that cuylles goal was “frozen” based on where the goalie skate was on the line
There was no intent to blow the whistle. There was clear evidence that the puck was in the corner of the net with cuylle and bonino both pointing right away
The ref was so far out of position that play alone should keep him off roster of playoff officials.
Nuts!!!
at what point does the league ask themselves if video review is worth it…. its not like they are getting things right at a high frequency and it just irritates players and fans
Though not yet at the quarter pole, I can predict with reasonable certainty that:
1/ The NYR will will the Metro if they go 42-19-7 in the remaining 68;
2/ The NYR will be at least a wild card if they go 33-27-8 in the remaining 68
I can also predict the next 68 will not go as smoothly as the first 14!
Beezle
That’s a stone cold question. My crystal ball has no answer. I’m stumped.
Awesome start for sure…Gustaffson, Quick, nice pick ups. Think Cullye will get a shot with Kreider and Ziba to see if he can jumpstart their 5 on 5 game…if not split up the huggy twins.

Laviolette called it a “maintenance” day for Lindgren and made it sound like there’s a chance he could skate Wednesday (sounds like no practice tomorrow) if he progresses. Didn’t sound quite as optimistic with Chytil, who has still yet to skate since his injury. #NYR
Could Mika’s issues be the marriage chamber? Prust saying!
bobbyo 12:27
Agreed, I already suggested that.
It’s a shame but it does appear that Chytil will always be in and out of the lineup.
Awesome nailbiter. Very funny Robocop comments in the review. I was hating this mini break, but it does come at a great time for injuries to get healed. When the Rangers have a good season, I always try to guess how many wins we will have when we get to 10 losses. It seems like this year we may get to 25 wins before we hit 10 losses. (Reg losses, not OT or SO).
Marriage has been as tough on Mika as COVID was.
Kevin Pollock = A Turd.
My thoughts on Chytil are that if he does get healthy again, he will be back on the 3rd line (assuming the Bread/Trocheck love affair continues). Bad luck for him though it may be best for the team. Likewise, it could also mean he gets moved at the deadline, though the concussion issue may scare suitors.
i couldn’t disagree more with the idea of putting kreider on 3rd line. it would have an adverse effect on rest of his game. playing time and confidence go hand in hand.
more on henrik
remember induction tonight on nhl network
Chytil is demonstrably not a 3C, and has proven himself at 2C once he finally got the nod. Trocheck can do both, and he gets PP1 time. Good use of both, imhfo.
Lav always goes with a checking center ..not sure that works with Chytil as 3C. don’t see anything wrong with Kreider and Trocheck on 3rd line though …. they had some chemistry in past and would get plenty of ice time
trocheck is very solid as 2nd liner with bread and laffy. hopefully chytil can be traded and we can get a real checking 3rd line center. keep top 2 lines as is although would love to upgrade wheeler spot on that line (really the 2nd line the way bread is playing)
Chytil is a young center they just signed at a nice cap hit…don’t see him getting traded
it would be very smart to trade chytil. square peg round hole. injury history. would help down the line with other cap needs for team.
It is not an easy solution. I have to agree with Beezle here. I don’t think trading Chytil would be easy. But if it could be done and a 25 year old checking center could be obtained it would be the right move. Not sure who that would be though. It would certainly take some of the pressure off Mika.
Vermont is the better choice at 2C because of his advantage on face-offs over Chytil. And agree Chytil is not the ideal 3C.
Who is this 25 year old checking center ? Chasing unicorns
Trocheck is only 1.2M more cap hit than Chytil. Yes, you could go back to Trocheck as the 3C and Chytil as the 2C, but that line has been on fire since Trocheck moved up, why would you break it up?
The injury history is starting to become worrisome. One thing if it is different body parts but isn’t this his 3rd or 4th concussion?
bobbyo
Did you even read my post from 4:35?
“Not sure who that would be though.”

Henrik singled out Rangers fans, really special moment!
How was Henrik selected so low in the draft (Rick DiPietro was 1OA)?

Man arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after death of Nottingham Panthers ice hockey player Adam Johnson
Adam Fox is partnering with Brooklyn Bagel and Coffee Company to host an interview-series called “Bagels and Fox.”
“As a Jewish Kid from Long Island, a bagel partnership is something I am extremely excited about,” Fox says in press release. 🥯🏒
Brooklyn Bagel doesn’t look very kosher to me. Oy vey Foxxy!
And, word has it Ryan Lindgren has agreed to be national spokesman for Pull-A-Part Junkyard & Auto Salvage.
🙃
Alex Daigle teamed with Gorton’s of Gloucester to promote his new podcast ‘Daigle and Lox.
If that is indeed true about Adam Johnson story, I will say that was my initial impression after watching the incident. It was not a hockey play. It was a chuck norris move.
Interesting аddition оn Injury List:
it’s probably just a mistake but Sportsnet felt like listing Patrick Kane on Rangers injury list and returning November 30th.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/F-6hV7PXcAAuR3H?format=jpg&name=medium
I will have the courage to say, albeit obvious to me, but perhaps not very popular thing, – the experiment with Wheeler is over and we must lose him as a ballast. OK, – It’s no one’s fault – this things happens and we just need to admit and do it in a right time. And, simultaneously, contrary to the opinion of the majority, I am all for doing everything possible to sign Kane – bona fide RW for the 1st line. (I’m sure he want it himself. and risk is less than having Wheeler). Leave 2nd line the same, let Chytle centered 3rd, with slightly less IT, considering his vulnerable statue, but united him with Kakko and the whole team will be “in chocolate” – ready to go.
Now, start throwing rotten tomatoes to me…
Those 5 points they left on the table is embarrassing
4everanger
Agree with telling Wheeler to go home his time has passed. It would be the only way I agree to signing Kane. However they will need cap space.
Indeed, the Rangers need fixin’ real bad. Humiliating that they’re behind Vegas and Boston so soon.
Who said anything about fixing the Rangers. Sending Wheeler home is the right move.
I wouldnt mind a healthy Kane at all.
It’s not getting rid of Wheeler, it’s bringing in Kane.
Is he worth it given his age, the cost and how well he bounces back from hip surgery? Isn’t this the same procedure (hip resurfacing) that led to Backstrom’s retirement? If he is resigned we’ll have to assume that the team has seen him on the ice. He’s got to be better than the player we saw last season.
Rangers are not good enough, and so on. There’s always room for improvement. Until they win the Cup I will gladly entertain all kvetches about marginal wingers, 6th line centers, whether Mika prefers technics vs numark turntables, etc. – particularly during a bye week!
With Lingren gettin g hurt again, you have to give serious thought to signing him to another contract. I understand that he is a warrior but think it is time to give Scneider a chance at doing his job. Love the guy, but has a great man once said. “Its nothing personel, its business”
I’d think Othmann over Kane at this juncture.
Rangers have outstanding PP without Kane’s talent
If we are in need of something for playoffs it’s more moxie
Larry weighs in on Kane:
https://nypost.com/2023/11/14/sports/rangers-not-in-the-patrick-kane-sweepstakes-this-time-around/
Pretty sure there will be some additions by trade deadline to bolster depth and toughness
Will be fun to see what Drury pulls off
agree with the Corporal….Pat Maroon would be a good get for playoff grind
Just say no to Kane. The Wheel seems to be rolling a little better the past week, no need to rush on that one. They also don’t have cap space (assuming Fox is returning) for anyone over 1M.
A partially inflated wheel can theoretical still roll, but?
Maroon would certainly provide us some color.
He could cause problems for Colorblind defenders
The parts arrived early this morning…
Question concerning Lindgren, how doctors replace a brain? Or do they just electronically reconnect the brain synapses’? Kind of like reconnecting the dots.
RoboCop takes a beating but keeps on ticking. So, better get rid of him. Not.

I think of the dead song much more frequently since wheeler joined as well admiral!

Just saw the clip of Draisatl attack on horvat’s knee. My goodness, that’s nothing short of flagrant assault. Could have ended the guy’s career in one go. $5000 fine in nhl land. The guy is a criminal.
Draisitl I remember early last year knocked troubas stick out of his hand at end of game and basically challenged his manhood. Trouba did nothing and took some crap for it. Then the helmet toss game in Chicago ushered in a meaner Trouba. So I guess we should thank draisitl for lighting that fire?
I dunno but this has no place in the game, sickening https://youtu.be/bJqTMYstcRk?si=oQxEy1MDaPL-4mkN

Thanks for the link wwpd
That does look dangerous like a Slewfoot
that was a great podcast Alex…Boyle is great since joining… highly recommended guys…some great stuff by Boyle and Rupp on 2011-2012 squad McD, Girardi, and Callahan and some Hank Stories…. Boyle said he destroyed Minnesota bathroom after Gaborik scored 5 on him and they sent him a 3500 bill
Destroyed the bathroom can have different meanings depending upon pre-game meal.
Interesting article – especially the bit on the NHL considering changing OT were making it a rule that the offensive team cannot leave the offensive zone with the puck in order to get “re-set.” The idea of the change is to decrease shootouts.
https://www.foreverblueshirts.com/ryan-lindgren-back-mika-zibanejad-woes/
One of my sons “destroyed ” bathroom in a hotel in Maine when he was about 10. We got off cheap. We left the maid $20 bill for the mess she had to clean up.
I always though that during the OT it should be like LAX. Once you bring the puck in the zone you shouldn’t be able to bring it out.
I see Vesey and think of “Row Jimmy,” 😎
‘I have a mansion, forget the price
Ain’t never been there, they tell me it’s nice
I live in hotels, tear out the walls
I have accountants pay for it all…’
Brooks hinting Chytil’s long term health could be in jeopardy after 4th concussion.
Let the checking center banter re-commence!
I wish OT would go back the way it was. 10 mins, who ever scores first wins. I’m fine with ties and would much prefer them to the Bettman point nonsense.
I must say that the Adam Johnson play did not look to me like it was an accident. At the very least it was tremendously reckless. At most, intentional. No idea what prompts a guy to attempt a drop kick with skates on.
It will be so nice after tomorrow to go back to moaning about what’s wrong with the Rangers.
RE: Adam Johnson. You would hope that there would be no chance of him doing this on purpose, but. Over the years we have seen a few NHL players who were out of their mind crazy. Either in one moment or all the time.
Going into the “Way back Machine” I remember an incident at MSG when Nick Fotiu and Steve Drubano went at each other. The video is still on you tube. It was a moment right out of ” Slapshot.
With the speed and weight of todays players I am surprised we have not seen more players die on the ice. Over the years I have been watching hockey the equipment and training has taken leaps and bounds in the safety department.
When I started in 1966 no goalies wore mask’s and no one wore a helmet. The game has come a long way.
In other news, the Assdancers have dropped their 7th in a row. This time an 8 round shootout loss to the almighty Kraken.
Imagine if Gallant was brought in as Isles coach
“The idea of the change is to decrease shootouts.”
Frankly, I prefer watching them over those 3v3 ice dancing sessions. If they want to fix that whole mess, they should make overtime 5v5 (or 4v4), no goalies, and unlimited scoring. That point system needs to be fixed as well.
If Chytil out for extended period/season….Lindholm/ Flames goes to top of the list as trade target/rental..Sure Boston/Toronto/Carolina will also be in on him
Not sure I understand the Bonino over Goodrow at 3C but guess coaches are paid for that 😉
Chytil would need to go on whatever IR list allows them to get a waiver for his cap the rest of the season. I still have my doubts about Fox considering we have heard/seen zero about ‘working in the gym’ ‘skating on his own’. MCLs usually don’t require surgery but can take a while to heal/regain stability. ACL he’d already be gone, other bits inside the knee they could wait to see.
Kane.

Mutiny
Chytil could go on LTIR for the rest of the season, allowing the rangers to add cap space that replaces his, but that’s not a route they can pursue unless they are really sure he’s done for the year (or until the POs at least). If he becomes playable again then they would be in violation
They call that a Kucherov
Kuchy Kuchy Kucherov!
A game today! Lgr!!
The cap is another area where we miss ilb, but I thought they wouldn’t accrue the cap savings from having Chytil on LTIR. It just allows them to exclude his hit for replacements / call ups. The way to take advantage would be to put him on for the season, then bring him back for the playoffs when there is no cap.
they still could retroactively put chytil on LTIR especially if and when fox comes off that list. never know if someone else gets hurt pretty bad. for example if chytil was on list until mid january and player A gets hurt for a few months right before that. they could then put payer A on LTIR through end of season. player A would have to be someone making at least what goodrow is making for it to matter much
That’s right, you don’t accrue any cap when a player is LTIR. You can’t just decide to sideline a player though for however long you want, it has to be medically warranted. Having fox LTIR already has created all the ability they need for replacement call ups for multiple players, as they know he wouldn’t be back for 10 games anyway.
