Special guest game review by Calhob
Wolfpack 4 – Lehigh Valley Phantoms (aka Jr. Filth) 1
Sunday 10/29, Allentown PA
Hey Boneheads! Calhob here. Regular reader, sporadic poster. Each year, my dad, brother and I go to Allentown, PA to see Harford play the Phantoms (Philly’s AHL team). If you ever have a chance to go to an AHL game- do it. The expensive tickets are $47 and the players always play hard.
On Sunday we got to see Hartford win 4-1 to improve their record to 5-2. They have a pretty solid team. A nice mix of big and small, feisty players. I wanted to see Garand in goal, but saw Domingue, who was solid.
Several players stood out. The one most people want to know about was Othmann. He had a quiet, good game. He wasn’t flashy at all, but didn’t make any mistakes. He had a quiet 3 assist game. But in one shift, while up 2-0 midway through the 3rd, he really stood out. Othmann got down to block a shot. We heard him scream out. It may have got him in the side of the knee. He struggled to his feet and continued, bent over for a few strides. Then the puck came over again and he dropped to block another shot and he crumpled to the ice, barely making it to the bench. Each player he passed tapped him with their stick. He didn’t miss a shift.
Rempe is a beast of a man. Huge. Maybe too big. He has a tough time digging out pucks and stick handling in tight spaces because of his size. His skating really isn’t great, but man does he play big. Rempe got in a fight and split the bridge of a guy’s nose.
The small guys were more noticeable throughout the game. Trivigno, Sykora, and Berard are all feisty and great on the forecheck. There were several dust-ups and slashing with them after whistles. Not sure if their size will be great in the NHL, but they play harder than most everyone else.
Since Jones is with the big club, Robertson is their big name on D. He is not going to get more than 5 points in a season, but he was very, very solid in D. He got back to break up a breakaway. He had smart passes and physical play. However, the defenseman that I think stood out more was Connor Mackey. I forget where they got him from (trade or draft) but he was very good in his own end. Smart pass break ups and good board play.
Riley Nash got 2 goals and an assist. Each Rangers/Pack game I go to, I wear my backup Rangers hat. I wear it each game with the hope there is a hat trick so I can throw it to the ice. Got so close tonight! One day….
Lastly, since it was right before Halloween, many people were wearing costumes. One guy was wearing a Micheal Myers mask and jumpsuit. He kept getting shown on the big screen and he was sitting still the whole time. We could see him up in the top level during play, not moving. Finally, the Phantoms scored and we looked up. Michael Myers kept completely still during the celebration. It was fantastic…and terrifying.
Let’s Go Rangers!

First!
I would have bet money that the Rangers would lose. Playing the odds. I really didn’t think they would take all 5 games. Wow, that’s awesome! I thought the bogus Lindgren penalty would have ended it before OT.
what ever happened to the writeup on the wolfpack game that someone was trying to send in
Breadman is on fire
Alex, that was me. I sent it in. They will post it on a time where there was no Ranger game pre or post thread.
Calhob seeing CCCP’s write up was pretty verbose, I’m not sure if I can fit it in lol
I’ll add the Wolfpack review to this thread later today. Make it a double feature of sorts!
Have admit, losing the hair and getting in the gym has definitely helped Panarin. That and playing way more N-S than E-W
A bit more on the tweet I posted yesterday concerning the Engrish league now requiring neck guards. Wonder if this is going to be what Staal was to eye visors?
eiha making neck guards protectors mandatory
Oh and a Happy Samhain to all our pagan Ranger fans! Happy Halloween to the rest of youse… may not too many kids pound on your door tonight! 🎃🎃🎃
Jeff had mentioned. So I sought out the video of AJ tragic injury. (Also wanted to see the circumstances in case anything avoidable to coach my son about)
The drop kick to the neck area looked intentional to me. I would be surprised if it wasn’t Manslaughter. (At least if they have similar laws to the US)
The play was not a “hockey play”. The offender was not knocked head over heels. It looked like he intentionally went towards him and went Chuck Norris
Even if he didn’t mean to kill him. It looked reckless bordering on sociopathic.
Eddie Munster all A-s first semester. Herman and Lily beaming.
Also. I couldn’t find the whole video of the aftermath, but, it didn’t look like anyone knew anything about stopping bleeding. Player continued to skate around and a teammate was by his side with a hockey gloved hand up near his neck. For a professional game , you would think there would be help on the ice quicker than what appeared from what I saw. I know it’s too easy to Monday morning QB from a keyboard as I don’t know all the circumstances and timeframes.
I will be interested to hear what the findings are and any changes to procedure after their thorough investigation.
I just think with the Adam Johnson tragedy, 8,000 people were in the building and saw what happened live, including his own team (which probably takes game video of their own?). I could be wrong but as far as I know nobody there says it was intentional. The video is blurry and at an angle where it really is difficult to see the players’ body positions throughout the incident. My first time seeing it I thought it really did look like a flying side kick, but then I saw a very slowed down video of it where it looks more like the other guy got upended and sent horizontal, head leading and legs trailing, and the left leg bent upward and the skate caught AJ as they were traveling past each other. I agree at first appearance it looked like a flying kick, but the people in the arena would have seen that and I would expect his team would be utterly irate about it if that was the case.
Also, nice road trip Rangers!
And Corporal Clegg, I’m curious to know if they had an ambulance and EMTs on standby at the arena or had to wait for them to arrive. Not sure if it would have mattered here, the poor guy lost so much blood so quickly.
Didn’t this same thing happen to Pete Peeters in the NHL — his neck was cut (carotid artery) and he skated to the bench by himself putting pressure on the artery to control the blood loss?
Not sure about Peeters, but Clint Malarchuk is the most well known one. It’s when goalies started to wear neck guards more regularly.
Kids hated wearing neck guards in youth hockey … used to be penalized for not wearing…had to keep extras for team just in case
Neck guards are a must in Transylvania.
My son feels weird if his isn’t on he is so used to it now. (Same with his teammates). Doesn’t bother them
Since I never wore one it would feel real strange now. No one wears in men’s league.
I got to see Rempe out here in Kent playing for the Thunderbirds. Fun hockey, the WHL, and a great chance to see someone like Nico Myatovic before he plays in the NHL. But Rempe was a stork, not nearly skilled enough to get past his overlong hockey body. I hope he’s gotten better, but NHL? I don’t think so.
Maybe so and I hope it was innocent chrismiller
But, being around the game for 30+ years I’ve never seen anything close to that in the way that it happened.
To have your legs fly up in the air that high on that type of “almost collision” with the other guy.
if I was in the crowd, it happened so fast, of course no one is thinking intentional. Many may not have even seen it if they were watching the puck close.
The video is concerning. And there is a reason the reports continue to say “the police are investigating “
If it was pure accident unequivocally, police would not be mentioned. It would be chocked up to a tragic accident
Police investigate all accidental deaths.
True.
Have you seen the video norm? I’d be interested your take actually.
Krusty turned 32. He’s done. Toast. Cooked. Finished.
Nooooooo!
I saw the video. Grainy, inconclusive of any intent as far as I’m concerned. I don’t know British law, but I doubt anything would come of it in the USA. You’d need witness reports that some threat was made, something along those lines.
Does anyone really want 32 year old krusty bread.
Thanx for the Wolfpack info.
A bread with a nice crust is good Minx, as long as it is not stale!
Calhob thanks for the nice write up. Are you in the LV? Do you go to see the Jr. Filth often or just when the Wolfpack is in town?
Nice review, Calhob! Thank you!
Ever since Roenick proposed a kinky threesome, he’s been rendered anathema to anything NHL.

pretty funny
Messier REALLY hates Subban. Has zero respect for the guy, even while in a Halloween costume.
Regarding Adam Johnson. I was going to use the logic that no sane player would go out of hie way to kick another player in the throat and that makes sense to me. Then i see Charlie Mcavoy hit yesterday and he makes me think that maybe my old school values are not held by everyone.
Still do not think hit was intenional, but who knows what evil lurks in the heart of man. No matter what, a very sad situation for a lot of people.
Jeff
Just simply tragic.
Thanks guys. I live in NJ, but like 35-40 minutes from the arena. We mainly go there to see games when the Wolf Pack is in town. Once or twice a season.
The Shadow knows.
THE Shadow know.
nice write up Calhoub..thx… hoping to see Sykora on bottom 6 at some point…like his speed and tenacity
Uncle Larry is intrigued…

Calhob if you happen to go to Filthy to see the Rangers play, definitely let CCCP or me know and we’ll post your game write up and designate you as roving reporter for the area 😉
I sure miss Franky V.
Great write up; thank you.
Bring Rempe up v Azzdancers so he can smack their Johnson around.
SN
johnston was waived and anaheim claimed him before the season
isn’t this what kane had done recently
Pierre LeBrun
@PierreVLeBrun
Nicklas Backstrom, 35, announces he’s stepping away from the game for now. He had hip resurfacing surgery back in June 2022. Has this year and next season left on his contract at a $9.2M AAV.
Cites his “ongoing injury situation” here in this statement
Larry is en fuego recently
Liked his article of bizzaro rangers. Most optimistic he’s been in a while
The pinto article was also excellent and raised many good questions
How fortunate is it that the team has two days off after returning from their extended five game west coast road trip and that the last of those games was in their home town time zone? I think this may help avoid the dreaded first game back let down that Carp preached about.
i think winnipeg is central zone but game was 7:30
interesting that after 1 home game we go back to central zone in minnesota
@NYR_PR UPDATE: Forward Tyler Pitlick (maintenance) will not practice today.
Don’t y’all laugh too hard at that one.
Then bring him up to smack around Boomer’s son in law
Lol. No questions! No Questions, I am King Buttman
Alex, thanks for clarifying my error.
I wonder if the league has ever looked into how time zone changes affect player’s performance. I’ve also thought about how travel schedules are considered by the team especially when the team has a day game on weekends or Holidays. Same for basketball.
Granted, they play weekly, but the NFL is considering adding a London franchise. Imagine adding 7 or 8 (or more) over-ocean hours to your visiting team’s burdens.
Coos, hard to see how that would work. Perhaps a split league with two groups of teams that concludes with a “World” Super Bowl championship?
“No further comment on the matter”
Reporters should keep asking out of principal
What was the role. What rule was broken.
My wife and I are heading out to Treasure Island, a 3 day vacation for her 26th birthday. Hold down the fort. I may be drinking a lot. If I do check in it will probably fall under the category of coos gibberish! Beezle, no wise cracks.
Happy Bday Mrs. St. Pete !!
Hopefully the missus doesn’t drink you under the table Minx!
Beezle
I’m X-Navy not a chance.
Thank you for your service. Cheers 🍻!!!
News from Ottawa: Officially, Pierre Dorion has resigned. Steve Staios is the interim GM.
Haha, I would love to be the roving regional game writer. Unfortunately I don’t have the money to do that. Well, I do… but Mrs. Calhob wouldn’t like it.
Eli – Forget Treasure Island. Find Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth! Rumored to be somewhere in or near St. Augustine.
Heave – right. Probably only East Coast competition.
Eli – USS Enterprise, Roosevelt, America. Stick Salute.
Refraining from playing fancy hockey does have it’s rewards. Great defensive positional hockey creates many offensive opportunities. Laviolette’s system is providing necessary structure. Re: NFL expansion, don’t believe it will ever happen. Libra month for me is trying; (5) birthdays including mine and our wedding anniversary.
St. Pete, Cheers to your wife. Hopefully she won’t be doing a Firefighter’s carry getting you back to the hotel! Enjoy the vaca!
Coos, Rollerball vibes! Let’s hope the NFL is familiar with the concept behind the movie or there’s a Jonathan in the future!
The NFL would be better off just going over like a barnstorming tour they are doing now in different countries. In reality, not too much time difference in flying time going from East Coast US to West Coast US or Western Europe.
You guys are special!
I’ve long said that America is ready for professional rollerball. Let the contestants sign liability waivers! If there was ever a way to get the Garden faithful to put down their cell phones rollerball would be it
West Coast to East Coast to Europe. Sharpen your pencil.
Cnada burns all summer, pollutes itself and the USA. Nobody sez a word.
Riddle me that…
I understand that several rollerball officials went on to become officials in the NHL. Players often complained that the refs frequently confused the rules between the two sports. Play on!

rangers win!
RIP Bobby Knight. God reportedly just said to him: ‘Stop arguing with me! You’re lucky to be here.’
This is a pretty good interview with Bettman on the McAfee show. Talks about a lot of different topics.
Pretty good interview with Bettman on the McAfee show. Lots of different topics.
Sorry for double post.

Rangers win. A glimpse into the future?
I’ve noticed that the “reply” button can be slow to respond. Thank you WordPress.

Vintage Hockey Showcase
@hockey_vintage
48 years ago today ON THIS DAY in hockey history (November 2, 1975):
Two days after being claimed off waivers by the
@DetroitRedWings
, Eddie Giacomin returns to New York to face his former team the Rangers and proceeds to make 42 saves in a 6-4 win with “Eddie” chants all night
Rangers never have this happen, do they?
they never should have done that to Eddie
Tonight’s game is a good matchup as Carolina comes in with a three game win streak and similar stats both offensively & defensively.
Tried unsuccessfully to paste a screen shot. How can I do that?
I’m surprised someone scored their first NHL goal against someone other than the NYR.
Didn’t Opie the victim get a hat trick in his 1st game as a Ranger?
In interview to “Allhockey.ru”, Panarin commented on his performance in the NHL season. He scored 15 points (5+10) in 9 games of the NHL regular season.
– What does it mean to you to score points in every game since the start of the season?
– Absolutely nothing. I even do not want to talk about it. Hockey is a great and the most interesting game, because anything can happen in a season and everything can change quite quickly. I don’t want to say anything because we just had five great wins. That doesn’t mean we’ll be great in the next 10 games. It just means we’ve been great in the last five games,” Panarin said.
OPIE THE VICTIM. Best Ranger sobriquet ever. Eddie Munster close. Krusty up there.
Coos, help a brother out: Eddie Munster?
I’m partial to THE and Vermont 🙂
I think The DJ needs consideration.
Dear Alex.
RE: Eddie Giacomin game. That was my 2nd season as a season ticket holder in sect 311(7$ Per ticket) Remeber the noise level being crazy. In the papers the next day it was reported that some of the rangers apologized to Eddie after they scored.
Also lasting memory of fans booing every ranger goal and cherring for every detroit goal. Only time I ever heard MSG louder was at an Elton John concert and game 1 of the 1979 final against Montreal when Billy Joel sang the national anthem and you could not hear a word.
Todays MSG is a much different place, and not for the better. LGR
