Good morning, boneheads!
I am not opening, let alone linking, any of the articles around. I can only imagine what’s there.
It’s just mindboggling. Three games in a row, one worse than another. First game, a crapshoot in OT, second game-bad luck. But this one? I think this young goaltender is in their head. And so are the Devils, who are playing almost perfect defensive hockey while using their strength. I think our boys were ready. But this first strange goal within a couple of minutes, and their entire confidence (or whatever was left of it) was shattered completely. That’s all NJ needed.
Not over yet, I know. But even if Gallant becomes a strong tactician overnight, it’s still up to them to execute. However, that will not happen unless their leadership steps up to the plate and shows the way. All of them, new guys including.
They have to do it the hard way. What else is new. Can they? Will find out tomorrow at the Garden.

Seriously can anyone tell how we should be positive about this organization that we love and hate so much? I was talking to my son earlier about the super kid line lol! He said it’s not that there bad they’re just dumb. Very low hockey IQ. We are doomed and stuck with this clown show until the core is gone. As ridiculous as it is Mkh has a good point. Trade the entire kid line including Miller at the draft and maybe the DJ and his entourage will get the message and get out of dodge. Last but not least signing Panarin for 11 mil was a huge mistake.
I have nothing say, other than this team is severely lacking.

I’ve been rooting for this team for about 55 years. They have been excellent these last two years and outplayed the last two games by another very good young team who for the moment look like they played the rental market better than Drury did. But it’s famously tough to close teams out, so there’s legit hope for Game 6, which would make 7 anyone’s guess. Win or lose, I’ll take it. It’s the Rangers.
I don’t need a solution yet. The series isn’t over. And if they don’t win its not gonna be trading young players

Put a fork in the rangers, there done. Unfortunately the devils are only going to get better so get use to that for the next 5 years. I originally thought the rangers were going to do a rebuild the right way but we all know that didn’t happen and the reason why is because Dolan wants his money so as far as Dolan is concerned he got 3 games at MSG. This team will make the playoffs but won’t go very far.

This team is only as good as the opposition allows them to be. That’s the cold, hard truth. It’s entirely too easy to disrupt their recipe for success, which as we all know is pass the puck around like the Harlem Globetrotters and wait for the prettiest play to get a shot on net, only… it rarely ever works. Once the opposition, in this case, the Devils, take away their time and space… they refuse to adjust and play smashmouth hockey. And do you want to know why that is? Excluding the 4th line, that brand of hockey isn’t in their DNA.
Taking it a step further, this isn’t so much on their D core as it is on their top nine (Miller excluded).
They’re NOT BUILT TO WIN. I don’t care how much icing we have…. we don’t have nearly enough cake!
Question as anyone been watching the Washington (Redskins) Commanders debacle with the inept owner Dan Snyder?

When the letter was sent I purposed and complete rebuild. I was mildly ridiculed. Well what we saw last night is what we will continue to see until it happens. Then maybe we can laugh at the devils just like they’re laughing at us…
i think that other than a 1st each of next 3 years that we don’t have too many picks in top 3 rounds. maybe 2nd in 2024 but not sure if that’s going as part of kane deal. and a 3rd from lanche this year. all 3 of our next 3 years 3rd rounds are gone.
i would think we’re going to have to trade guys like miller and jones to get some picks back and in case of miller open up some cap room.
i just don’t think drury has the draft capital to make more rental trades going forward. this team is kind of a mess going forward.
Devils made playoffs once over last decade resulting in multiple top 5 picks that have finally started producing …is that the rebuild wanted here?
It’s strange how a rebuild suddenly turned into win now. The result of course in this kind of scheme is win never. Yes there are some titillating moments along the way but in the end the same as always….. disappointment.
We the fans are tired of being micturated upon, build this team correctly. Why do we have to watch so many other teams do it right and Ranger management ( every Ranger management) does the same stupid things over and over again. Ultimately we the fans are being cheated and our favorite organization is a complete laughing stock.
There are many more important things in the world….but still it is a shame.

Let’s save the discussion of where they go from here for next week. We’ll have all Summer for it. We have at least one more Go Time this season. I’d just like to see them show up for what may be their last home game of the season. Another sh!t show like last night would rally be a horrible way to start the offseason. At least go down fighting not with you tail between your legs.
I can excuse Games 3 and 4 because they really could have won either. This response was unacceptable. They played reasonably well the few minutes after the fluke goal, and overall in the first period. All downhill after that. First elimination game coming up.

Yes. What’s the alternative 20 more years of mercenary failures? Who are you going to trade for a #1 center that shows up in the playoffs. Stop signing Panarin types they’re great for the regular season but limit cap flexibility. The Rangers have been doing this for decades and it barely work once.

The problem with the rangers is they play at MSG smack in the middle of New York City. Overhead is high so owner needs people in the seats. The rangers will never do a complete rebuild and hence will be lucky to get another Stanely Cup. The rangers need to draft well, draft the type of players with the pedigree of skill and toughness. Hopefully they do allot better job in drafting, in a cap world that’s also important. This way they don’t have to spend tons of money in the free agent market.

There is a simple fix to get sustained offensive rush. On the D breakout, the Debbie’s are pressing the strong (puck) side. The one NJ forechecker is covering both NYR D-men. The NYR D must reverse the puck as the weak side is wide open for D who made the original breakout pass. Instead the NYR D passer is not joining the rush and NJ has a 5 on 4 advantage on every dump in. It’s a quasi trap but NYR is playing right into their hands.
Requires patience and smart passing but to quote the eternal wiseman Yoda, “Go slow and go faster”

Mika is strange cat. Gets most of his points on odd man rushes and PP which does not translate well against teams playing conservatively.
Not as down on Bread as others because he is who he is; regular season point compiler who needs space to weave his magic. His inability to pass to spot Vlad on the doorstep in the first was a huge miss.
Laffy and Kakko have been their most engaged PO wingers; need to split them up and get them away from Flip.

Bobby – The reason you trade the kid line is because the Rangers window is now closed due to cap restraints and heartless leaders in the top 6. They are 4-5 years away from being able to compete again, possibly longer. As for the kid line, though they are good for possession time, they are way too slow in transition, can’t finish and are going to want inflated contracts soon. The draft picks you replace them with will also be the cheapest players. As for Miller, how much is he going to cost to keep him? Can he be good? Maybe, but I am not sure he has the gumption to play the physical game he needs to and i’m not sure he will ever learn proper positioning. Defensemen take longer, so I would maybe consider holding him longer, but only at a reasonable price. Bottom line is you need players that show up at the most important time of the year and the current top 6 are complete no shows. Yes even pillow soft Kreider. He has good hands for deflections if its laid on a tee for him like Fox has done, other than that he is useless.

stop with the kreider hate. 5 goals and 1 assist. including a goal in game 3 not via tip in and assist on the ranger goal in game 4. had 10 goals in 20 playoff games last year. all time leader in playoff goals by a ranger.
Rich – Spot on. SSDD. How many times have the Rangers traded for the aging HOF player who has nothing left. Would be nice to see them develop their own HOF players for a change. Gilbert, Leetch and eventually Hank are it for their drafting and developing skills. That is the other part of the organization that needs a complete rebuild. Start by cherry picking scouts from TB, Colorado, Boston, Detroit and maybe even NJ and get coaches that can develop them. It is also a good thing to let guys develop in AHL, instead of rushing them to big club so they can be overmatched and lose all confidence in themselves .
When is the last time you saw Zibanejad, Chytil, Kreider, Panarin, Kane, Kakko….. put someone through the boards on the forecheck to slow down/wear down the opposing team?
That is HALF of your forward group and 2/3rds of your top 9 unwilling/unable to do what it takes to win this time of year when things aren’t going right! How much more needs to be said!
They need to draft more guys of the same ilk as Othmann and Cuylle if they want post-season success. It’s that simple. THESE are the guys that not only make room for skilled players, but can also pump the puck in the net themselves.
Or hey, draft like crap, and then trade/sign finesse players who dominate in the regular season. That seems to be working out well….
Sorry Alex, I am not a fan of Kreider. Though better the last two years, I couldn’t stand him disappearing for long stretches, taking periods and games off. He got the nickname enigma for a reason. He plays way too soft for a guy who we are constantly told is so big and strong. It would be nice to see him show some heart and use that size and strength. Maybe drop the gloves a little more often to try and change a game. Last night might have been a good time to do that. IMO He also has a very low hockey IQ. We all have our players we don’t like and he is at the top of my list, though Panarin and Kane have passed him for the #1 spot on my list of least favorite players. I know many others feel differently about him and I respect that, but he is not the player for me.

MKH the reason you don’t trade the kid line or Miller is because they are the next window and moving them is not going to get you more cost effective players especially with cap constraints. The current top 6 is changing whether they win or not its just a matter of how drastic that is…. Cullye and Othmann will be in the line up next year…and being 4-5 years away is a stretch
This team plays soft physically. They only fore/back check to the extent the other team does not return the favor. Once the other team pushes back, NYR pretty much vanish*. Rare is the game they trade body blows from start to finish. See Letterkenny coach for the more accurate description.
The cap situation is not going to be as bad as many make it out to be. One more tight year and then things start to open up. Regardless, I think both from a cap and team play standpoint they will need to find a way to move Panarin. His game just does not translate well to the playoffs and that has a cascading effect down the lineup.
*Not that this is the Devils game either and both clubs lead only Dallas in the dubious hit stat.

they have to make cap room. they’re not getting a top center. most of the higher priced guys have no movement clauses or contracts that nobody would want. doubt we could even trade goodrow without eating a fair amount of contract. they can’t afford to give all the kids the money they will want.
If they are not getting a top center move someone else ….you dont move young top 4 D or centers, wingers are easier to replace

I’m no expert obviously. maybe the fine men and women selling $20 beers inside the garden are that much more highly paid than labor costs in the rest of the league, or the old MSG lighting isn’t energy efficient enough? certainly could afford to cut some executive costs given the crappy results we get anyway!

Coaching is very important,we all know that. With this team you could have the winningest coach ever and if the players will not adjust there is nothing you can do.
To me the biggest problem is Panarian and as we all know,he is not leaving anytime soon.

Did anyone notice at the end of the game with less than 15 seconds left and a 4-0 lead, the Devils took two one timers looking for another goal, instead of just dumping it into the corner and letting the clock run out. What was the Rangers response – CRICKETS. Where were the veteran “leaders”??? That tells you all you need to know about this gutless, heartless team. Instead of putting the guy through the boards and then dropping the gloves to beat the snot out of him, they just skated meekly away with their tail between their legs. And they expect us to believe that they will show up for game 6? What a joke!!!

Sykora with his first AHL point assisting on Bobby T’s goal and Garand seems to be on a roll even if it was only 14 SOGs. It seems like they are letting him play until he makes them switch. Parker Gahagen listed as the backup. Domingue must have eaten some bad Chinese food again. Does anyone know what happened to Robertson? He hasn’t played in forever. I’m sure if Trivigno ever makes to Broadway he will be Lee on the blog. Edstrom also started the game.

We have reached a must win game even under Carp’s narrow definition of the term. They caught the Devils not ready for the moment in games 1 and 2. Let’s see if they are ready for the moment tonight. I expect handshakes tonight. I hope they surprise me. If GG is correct and they actually played hard on Thursday and still got outshot 20-2 in the 3rd the Devils are just a much better team and there is little to agonize over. LGR!

That is the bottom line. The devils are the better team. They were better in the regular season. The devils had more points and a better record head on against the rangers.
The Boston series is going just as we all hoped to make life potentially easier for the Rangers. But like every season the Rangers find a way to make a plan not come together. In this case by coloring the ice yellow against the little devils.
They should actually have the hand shake before the game. That way they can shamefully slip off the ice while the devils do a stick salute on MSG ice. It hurts me to say that.

The devils are better. They are faster, smarter, more skilled, and better coached. And both teams know it. Rebuild the right or we’ll be watching this same show for years to come.

I can at least breathe a little easier knowing the fish sticks are out before the Rangers. If they advanced, then either the Rangers or Devils were going to lose players to long term injuries early in the next round. That is the fish sticks game, inflict pain and injuries to bring the skill level down to their level.
What sucks is I really wanted the islanders and devils to face off in the opening round.
But of course, the Debbies had to go 8-6-2 in their last 16 games to blow their chance to overtake the Candy Canes.
Now, we got stuck with the Debbies entering a hot streak, whereas the Candy Canes are all banged up ready to be toasted in round 2 from the Fishsticks.

Dear cooscoos; Agree on Fox. Have noticed how close they are to him all the time. On the power play they seem to attack him and you can see his frustration growing. Also it is time to sit Kane and plat Tarasanko a lot more especially on the PP.
Like a lot of you I do not have confidence in this team but I have something all Rangers fans have;HOPE. Here is hoping for a great game that we can all be proud of our boys.
