Craig I’m just looking at it this way…O’Reilly is 32..but…Kreider and Panarin are 31. Trocheck, Zika, Goodrow are 29, Trouba is 28, Shesterkin is “already” 27. These are the guys they’re trying to win with.
They have a younger crowd/core that isn’t quite up to snuff yet on top of a pipeline of Othmann, Cuylle, Robertson, Skinner etc.
There’s a clear cut gap and if the plan is to go for it while that older batch of guys are still competitive, they’ll have to make some moves like they did last year.
I can’t predict the price and neither can you because if we spoke this time last year we’d debate that Copp and Vatrano would cost 1st rounders+ as well.
Different with O’reilly as he’s higher profile but we can’t predict what he’d cost. The real question is what contract can they move?
Excluding Shesterkin you all know what I think about the guys they are trying to win with. O’Reilly would be a major upgrade down the middle, but the cost may be higher than Drury is willing to pay. If Drury does bring in O’Reilly (speculation) I believe they may still miss the mark.

Kravtsov had to work hard to keep that in so the Canes could score. Keep the picks and draft some players. They aren’t one piece away from anything except a first round elimination.
Hopefully the game doesn’t continue this way or we’re going to get dominated for a full 60.
Supposed to be one of the best draft classes ever. They don’t need to trade those for anything right now.

A reminders Gents the Rangers are a pretty good team. Unfortunately their core is just not good enough to take home the prize. No deadline trades are going to change that.

Difference between the clubs that period……..Carolina has players back in the D zone and they take players out while the Rangers have guys back standing around taking nobody.
No deadline trade will help this team win a cup. Agree. Please move Miller. He. Is not and will never be a d man. If you want to try him at forward OK.But he is a mess in his own zone. They have to change their pairing on defense. Until they do this team will not win.
Carolina had more energy and speed in that period too. The second a Ranger got to a pick there was a Carolina guy on them. They’re very aggressive and I’m not sure our team can think fast enough right now.

Lazy passes, lack of focus. There is simply no match between this teams…in speed, forechecks, structure. Carolina plays total hockey – 5 in offence, five in defense.

That’s a great game considering we lost in the first period and were trading Miller
Teams do that often at the end of games and rarely get scored on. They had to more aggressive on the forecheck. They dropped back almost like a regular pk. Can’t do that if you pull the goalie. You’re 5 on 5. Need to force the play.
Ref was almost as bad as Sam. He should know the difference between no. 74 and 24.At least 6 times he mixed up those two players. The ref has to be sat down and explained the rules. He was very bad. That last call would have been great against John Tortterela. He would have lost his mind.
Always nice to have Joe tell me how great Miller is. Take the 2 points and just smile.
A special teams win. They haven’t done that in a while.

They held the Canes to 23 SOGs tonight. They frequently have gotten that many in a period in the past couple of seasons. Good defensive effort and excellent PK tonight.
Sammy was the only Ranger without a SOG. He didn’t even have an attempt in his 6 minutes. He also only had one hit. Once they got behind the 4th line wasn’t going to see the ice often.

Rangers played a good game against a really good team. The usual out of postion goals against,
but still played well. Fortunately Kochetkov let in a couple of softies. But here’s the thing when shots are ON NET those types of goals can happen. Kakko is becoming a force I think the points will come.
