Tomk got this ball rolling, thanks Tom. kakko is back on a 2 year deal worth $2.1 AAV per. start the sign and trade rumours now lol….
Still no updates on Motte, Sauer, Musky, or who survived kakko’s camp ”tour”.

Thanks again tomk for getting the info out to everyone!
We need a capologist to figure out how much cap space we would need to take on 50% of Kane’s contract at the deadline
Our Capologist is circumventing the world on his yacht trying to sort out WordPress pac-man and drinking expensive wines.
The ideal situation with Kane or any larger contract that “could” be inbound is a third team to retain so the rangers are only on the books for 25% of the incoming players actual cap hit.
IE Kane to Anaheim at 50% retained and Anaheim to Rangers at another 50% retained…lots of moving parts and assets involved obviously but from $$$$ standpoint, very doable.
$10.5 mil becomes a cap hit of $2.625 mil for the rangers in that scenario
Jamesgeau
Capfriendly pretty much tells you that – currently the equivalent to $8.4m at the deadline so we’d need Chicago to retain 20% or thereabouts of Kane’s $10.5m, but that cap space doesn’t take into account the use of a 7th defenseman and their cap hit which would be 925k for Jones or 800k for Hajek. It also doesnt include Kravtstov and his cap hit.
There’s going to be some juggling for sure, and i wouldnt be surprised if Reaves is moved to create some more space for the youngsters
No offer sheet? I’m shocked!!
If they moved reaves that’s fine, but why would they do it to put more young guys in a lineup on a team that is trying to be competitive and win cups? If they move $$$ guys, it’s to make space for nhl players to better the line up not young players.
How does loading up with young inexperienced players get them anywhere but down in the standings?
opaaK okkaK
Moving Reeves leaves them vulnerable. Can’t do it. Shouldn’t do it.
I wouldn’t move reaves at this point for as much off the ice as on.
There are better and smarter ways imho to open up cap space to make the team better now and in the future…especially a team that has cap issues and good asset depth at wing and D that have no real “in organization” path forward but will cost more $$$ to keep going forward.
Tony Amonte foe Brian Noonan and Stephane Matteau. That was a pretty good deal, though I’m sure many were upset when it happened.
Chytil and Kakko are the guys to move.
Two more years of failed expectations and disappointments. Hooray.
Kravtsov and Nils are also available, but Kravtsov makes nothing. You would hope to raise their values in the months ahead. Kravtsov in NY. Nils in Hartford, with a possible call-up for showcasing.
Don’t have to trade all of these guys, but they could if it gets the right return.
Tomk
Yep, those are the two guys you focus on moving.
He’s bypassing and avoiding the World while exploring the World? Nice trick.

Kane has 3 rings, but not with Panerin. He’d help the power play and with maintaining possession, but he’s not going to forecheck or backcheck.
He’s still an elite player, but not sure he’s the player they need.
Tomk
Good stuff.
Again…correct…here comes another sticker for our very special boy!!!!!!
I love this place!!!!

You guyses are the best!!!
Actually, I guess we really don’t know, that Vince guy could be Vince A.
I still think Drury has something up his sleeve besides pizza!
Parmesan cheese?
A rabbit?
New shorts?
A new clutch?
A 5’9” left handed d man?
An undersized left wing from Europe no one has heard of?
A shock bracelet that Dolan has the remote for?
Spare parts for Lindgren?
A tattoo of trouba’s number to call before all personnel decisions?
Come on st Pete…what do you think it is?!?!?!?!?!
A trade for another 1st in 2023 for leverage at the trade deadline.
Ooooooohhhhhhhhh
Next draft loaded apparently teams want to hold onto to draft picks
If moving Reaves means keeping Motte, you do it….this isn’t the same team as 2 years ago and Reaves is a liability come playoff time
Wicky
You must admit it is an interesting take?

Thanks for helping, Wicky!
Two-year deal sounds like not a big deal, but it’s important. Kakko becomes arbitration eligible in a year. He scores 20 goals playing with Panarin and Trouchek and all of a sudden you have a guy who needs to be paid $4M+ when you have to give Miller and Lafreniere new deals. Now they have him under control for two years. Still RFA after that.
Until Cuylle is ready, or someone is acquired, they need Reeves to fill the, when the shi- hits the fan role.
Strange thing is, I actually like Wicky and his hockey takes. Just shoot me. 🙂
I do not think it is a coincidence that Reeves has played on a lot of good teams.
Soon as Miller’s up for REAL money, sayonara.
St pete
I don’t disagree at all with your take, he’s a notoriously stealthy GM according to “reports”.
Wouldn’t shock me in the least to see him pull off a dogs days of August trade.
Coos
Why would that be strange? Why make it sound like that’s an issue?
We need to keep bringing in cheap, talented, quick, snarly young Dmen. Key word is CHEAP.
So Cap Friendly’s cap hit has them with 12 forwards + Blais on IR and Nils as the 6th D. They could just add Hajek as the 7th D and have their roster complete and have ~$1MM in cap space. No way do they carry 23. Kravtsov would bump Goat Boy or Mike Hunt with limited cap hit change. The same is true of Hayek and any other D they have under contract.
So that $80,691,469 cap hit they carry as of today, includes 13 forwards, not 12. Blais’ number is there. Anyone else (Kravtsov, Cuylle, Othman, Rydahl) comes in, it will be at the expense of Gauthier, Hunt, Carpenter etc. So it’s a wash. Adding Motte ($1.5M?) makes a $700K dent in that $1,808,531 cap space.
Seventh D makes that space closer to $1M.
Exactly, ORF 😃
Reaves had 3 fights this season….Maroon was running around all last series
I was just watching the Bruins/Canes game on NHL network and Trochek seemed to be the net front person on the PP. He’s not locked in there, but, he is not moving CK off the first PP in that spot. Who replaces Strome? LAF, Chytil?
By the way, you don’t need a capologist to calculate projected deadline cap space. Each $1M cap space at the beginning of the season becomes $4.65M, providing there are no changes during the season. There are always some changes because of injuries, call ups etc. But that’s a good way to look at it, regardless.
For curious minds, this is how it’s calculated. Most of the years a season runs for 186 days. Trade deadline is alway 40 days before season ends. So teams are responsible for only 40 out of 186 days of any contract.
186:40=4.65
So unless he is willing to sign for ~$1-1.5 MM Motte won’t be a Ranger. They want to leave some cushion for flexibility and deadline moves. I assume he is looking for a better offer since it very clear what they have now. Drury was quite honest when he was asked about him.
‘Honey, did you pack my calculator for our trip? Yes? You’re the best!
Motte will play in a bathtub so long as he has a few extra bucks for fatburgers.
To go back to the point st Pete and others have mentioned, there seems like something else will need to give at some point. Too many similar young guys at similar positions with similar “styles” that will need to be given raises sooner than later that haven’t really proven much if anything at the nhl level.
Motte hasn’t been “snatched” yet either. If you ask my opinion, I keep Reaves over Motte for another year any day. You can get someone like Motte for a 4th rounder and $250K cap space at deadline, while someone like Reaves may cost you much more.
⬆️100% correct Ilb!
You know some of coos’ posts are actually funny when he’s not whining about some fabricated blog tinfoil hat conspiracy or playing the victim.
😉
For the record, I like Motte a lot. He brought a lot of energy and speed to the 4th line and PK. But players like him are available every March and there is no reason to overpay for them. If he’s willing to sign a few year deal closer to $1M, I’m sure Drury can make it work. If he wants closer to $2M, I’d let someone else overpay him
I think we overpay WordPress;)
When I say “can make it work” I mean that Drury doesn’t have to make it all work under the cap right away. There is a 10% summer cap cushion
I think the rangers should use that option more often.
When was the last time they went 10% over in the summer? Anyone know?
ilb when you say someone like Reaves would cost more…what is the comparable…cause we don’t need another 35 year old who can’t keep up with playoff pace that has a few fights a year
It’s not always about fights, bobbyo. He brought different attitude and energy to this team. Don’t underestimate what he did to their confidence during regular season. They did pretty well well from October through March with Reaves in and no Motte.
Interesting tidbit, prior to his career year last season, cheechoo had a high of 11 ppg in a season.
Trocheck’s high is 13.
Kreider is very good in front of the net, but it’s not an irreplaceable skill set that only he possesses.
It certainly can’t hurt anyone stationed there and their production that fox and Panarin are sending the biscuit their way.
I think Trocheck should be used in bumper spot with his R handed shot. Strome was used there occasionally, except he’d rather have his arm amputated than shoot.
How is it that reaves keeping up seems to be a problem but it’s not a problem for teams that go deep in the playoffs with guys like maroon, or Perry, or Thornton, or…
I think it’s more of a problem that a lot of the ranger players other than reaves don’t play with the required passion and drive that reaves or other players do and subsequently make guys like reaves more necessary for the rangers.
Nah, must be a skating requirement exclusive to the rangers 🙄
I’m going to have to write Trocheck more often. So far, my phone autocorrects Trocheck to trochanter
Ilb
Agreed, that is where they should put him on the power play.
Besides, it’s obvious reaves is slow, if he could skate even a little he’d rack up decent hit numbers during the season.
He can’t skate fast enough to hit anyone though so his hit numbers are really low.
It’s almost like they need more scoring at times in the post-season so reaves sits…nah, not with all these super fast, speedy forwards that play such a high octane offencive game….that can’t be it.
Wick Maroon, Perry, Thornton are much better hockey players
you obviously appreciate his intangibles ilb but Reaves did not provide much value come playoff time…and thats where they need to improve/take the next step
Doesn’t change anything about their skating speed…which is the most overrated attribute of any player.
I’ve seen Reaves produce four, five big hits first 10 minutes. He can still line you up and deliver.
coosie the victim.
Bobbyo
My apologies. When I read “another 35 year old who can’t keep up with playoff pace” in your post, you seemed to be focused on his skating speed not overall player ability.
I was retorting to that comment.
My bad if I misinterpreted “can’t keep up” and “pace” as strictly a speed thing with reaves versus his ability as an overall player.
Which I think is also more than acceptable. He’s not an offencive juggernaut, which is what has led to him being a healthy scratch over the years in the playoffs under gallant, his teams needing to score more.
Is Maroon colored?
How about Ted Green or Colin White or Doug Brown. Or Purple Hayes.
not that sour on Reaves but Motte improves them overall
I think Motte could be signed for cheap in this market. ($1 million aav?) And they could part with Gauthier, Hunt and/or Hajek.
Motte and Reeves on opposite wings seemed like a pretty good formula for the 4th line.
Gauthier or Hunt but keep the defensive depth
I agree that Reaves still has a role here – while he didn’t drop the gloves very much last season, I do believe he had a deterrent effect and I don’t think they have shown enough toughness (outside of Trouba) to not need him this year. I also think he should not play every game. Need to keep him fresh.
Wicky answering your 1:26 post
I’m just thinking off the board! See what I did there?
St Pete
I see what you did there 😉
Wicky
😊
If I’m not mistaken hunt makes around 700k or so and all things being equal with on ice contributions and performance, think he should be higher on the depth chart than both kravtsov and gauthier.

I’d like K’Andre even better if he learned to play a little D and actually moved someone from the crease.

Did Tony D return K’Andre’s puck back to K’Andre? 🙂
Tony D turned over many pucks to the Rangers during the playoffs. I’m sure at least one of them went to Miller.
Damn! Bdl got jokes after all! 😀

Sooooooo yeah Kakko is back good. moving right along. It’s going to be sick time on twitter one way or another this year barring the unexpected you’d have to assume (if you have a realistic grasp on Turk and the gang’s approach) that Laffy is most likely going to have to re-attempt a RW conversion if he’s playing top six this year
Additionally we’ll be seeing one of Kakko/Blais/Goodrow on the right side of Vinny T and Panarin. That’s a lot of tummy aching on the tweeter…
Only if it’s Goodrow or, heaven forfend, Byron Hunt.

One thing i do not understand about tyler mott. What i saw of him in 30 games as a ranger i thought was a positive. What does Drury know that makes a better idea to sign Hunt and Gettinger but not Mott? Inquiring minds wont to know.
Jeff
supposedly mott wants 2 million or more probably for a few years. not viable to our cap position.
Since we are still talking about him, it doesn’t seem like anyone wants to give it him. I would link to the Stones “you can’t always get what you want” but the Spam folder is full.
Based on the conversation yesterday morning, I believe we’re, (once again), looking for a center,(3c). Chytil makes $2.3 aav this year and then will presumably need a raise as an RFA. Kakko makes $2.1 for the next two years before he’ll need a raise. Goodrow should remain on the wing. I realize it was pre-cap era, but the Amonte for Noonan and Matteau concept applies. We’re looking a vet,(at least one player), who will help win in the playoffs.
Much has been said about the fact that Lafreniere and KAM will be due raises next summer. The other issue of course is Shestyerkin, (currently @ $5,666,667 for 3 more years), will be due a raise. No one knows what that will cost, but Vasilesky has a $9.5 aav. The point is, the time to win is now.
If he bounces back, we could target Toews at the deadline,(instead of Kane). If Seattle would eat some money, maybe reunite Yanni Gourde with Goodrow. No idea if Winnepeg would want to trade Adam Lowry. I believe his father is still the coach. He’s cost controlled and we know that PLD wants out. Lowry isn’t a top 6 center, but he’s still a center and Winnepeg might want to keep him. Evan Rodrigues is still out there as a UFA. We could sign him in this market for a reasonable amount. He’s got some bite. If we signed Rodrigues, the Rangers could just trade Chytil for a pick in what’s supposed to be a good draft class in 2023. Thoughts?
Thanks Alex. If by now Mott has not been signed and he wants 2 million a year. It would make sense for him and his agent to understand that the NHL does not think he is worth that much. I think before training camp opens some team will sign him for less. Liked his game. Hope it would be Rangers.
Happy August to all.
Motte is worth 2M …its not that NHL doesn’t think he’s worth it…its because of the salary cap and teams that don’t have the space
Trochek signing means one of two things for Chytil, he’s a winger, or he’s gone. If Drury were to trade Kakko, that’s the opening for Chytil on the wing.
Think Chytil is gonna get a long leash this season before Drury decides he needs a 3C …. a big no on Toews …he’s just about done
I think Motte is worth 2 mill as well. He is relentless, and he always has his stick in the right place. He’s not going to score much, but he is going to prevent goals. Like him a lot.
Looking at the Rangers roster it is becoming clear that Libor Hajek is your 7D. It is also possible he’s the 6. Most think it’s a 3 man competition for the 6thD spot, I think it 4, and Hajek is quite possibly the favorite.
Gourde makes 5,166,666 and has 3 years left on his deal. He’s 30.
If Seattle ate, say a million and a half, would you trade Chytil, Lundkvist and Kravtsov for Gourde?
tomk >>> yessir
Couple of things while I have a moment..
Motte being unsigned doesn’t mean ‘no one wants him’. We are in an offseason where the basement dwellers and mediocre teams have money to spend but the teams that will be competetive/contending really don’t. Not saying people are knocking his door down but I’m sure offers are there but nothing to write home about as far as being able to compete…
Trocheck signing= telling Chytil “you will not be the 2C for the next 7 seasons”..So BDL is 100% on point. The only question is how long do they manage the roster with him and the ‘kids’ comprising the identity of the third line instead of building a traditional 3rd line. If money weren’t an issue I think they’d have brough in a 3C already. His contract is manageable for right now. It’s just very tough to gauge what the third line will look like. Could be Kakko-Laffy on the wings. Could be Blais-Goodrow…really any combination of those four but I’m pretty confident that Laffy will be full time top six this season..
I’ve said this before about Libor Hajek- I’m totally cool with him as a third pair LD as long as it’s consistent. Won’t ever confuse him for Shea Weber out there, but sometimes low profile and steady is the best solution. No issue w/ him as Scheider’s partner. As a 7th he kind of makes me nervous though. Watched him live against Montreal as a fill in after having not played in a while and he was noticably terrible in most aspects of the game.
Kreider Zibanejad Lafreniere
Panerin Trocheck Kakko
Goodrow Gourde Blais
Cuyle Carpenter Reaves
Hunt
Gettinger Rydahl Brozinski
I have all the Stones early albums. Always loved Fred and Wilma.
cooscoos
what about bam bam. he could clear some creases
Boom-Boom Geoffrion
(5’9, 165)
Gourde? Yeah. He’s small. NHL has him listed at 173 lb.s. With Coleman on the other wing, he and Goodrow were a big part of those two Tampa cups, but I get it Coos. Ideally, I’d rather have a bigger 3c.
yabba, dabba doo!
tomk
My take!
Kreider Zibanejad Lafreniere
Panerin Trocheck Kakko
Goodrow Chytil Kravtsov
Blais Carpenter Reaves/Hunt
I think Cuylle starts in Hartford
some cap gymnastics speculation
One team wins every season. one guy gets voted the mvp of the league. One guy gets awarded for the scoring race. There’s a best defenseman and a best goalie…And that’s about it…Yet every UFA in the league thinks they’re entitled to a raise.
James until they get into mid 30s where most take quite a haircut
James you sound like Jeremy Jacobs!
good stuff Alex…don’t want to upset Uncle Larry but i prefer JT over Kane at the deadline
AHL skaters: Cuylle, the wily bastid is gonna come in here and try to make a name for himself. Keep your heads up.
You said it, James! About time someone did.
And their raises should be in increments of $25 grand.
Pirates finished last and Ralph Kiner led the League in BA, homers and RBIs; then asked his GM for a raise. GM said: “I can finish last without YOU”:
At least Kiner sold a few tickets …Pirates could use him now
Klingberg to Ducks
Brooks is going to be crushed.
Me2
Asslabders should be in on Kane too
front office leavings
Thanks Alex. Looks like Drury is continue his revamp to make the scouting department more than a little club full of Sather’s golfing buddies (see what I did there?)
Klingberg signs a one year w the Ducks?
I missed it earlier. I guess that’s a good example of how the remaining UFAs have to decide between a pay day and a chance to win.
You might have a point, James. JD came in squawking that he was making scouting changes, then seemingly did nada.
Agree James. FWIW, Morehouse is JD’s son-in-law. He stayed on after the purge and he’s actually supposed to be pretty good at what he does. Gordie Clarke on the other hand. . .
Drury has certainly made changes. He only answers to Dolan so he has a free hand to do what he thinks is best. JD’s job as far as I can tell was to placate Dolan while Gorton ran the show. He failed miserably at it. There is no question now who is in charge.
My turn to give the heads-up, Wicky. We have another race this week. Hungary. Go fast day is tomorrow.
how good is this guy Bedard. i see he’s 5’9″ yet he’s being compared to great number 1 overalls

4 Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eli, 10:21 – you suggesting 4ever has a multiple personality disorder? Not that there’s anything wrong wih that.
You will be surprised, but this assertion is correct.
The story is told of George Rodriguez, a famous Mexican bandit in the early 1900’s, who would slip across the Texas border and rob banks. The Texas Rangers could never catch him. One day when George robbed a bank, a ranger spotted him, followed him back to a Mexican village, and saw him enter a small café. The ranger walked in, drew his pistol, and put it right to George Rodriguez’s head.
“George we’ve been trying to catch you for months, “the ranger said. “You’ve robbed all the banks along the Texas border. If you don’t tell me where the loot is, I’m going to blow your head off.”
Now there was a problem, George didn’t understand a word of English. But there was a little boy there who spoke both Spanish and English. So he went over and told George what the ranger had said.
George replied in Spanish to the boy. “Tell him to go to the center of the city, face north, go to the well, and count down seven stones inside it, where he will find a loose stone. Behind it is all the loot I took from the Texas banks.”
The boy smiled turned to the ranger, and said. “George Rodriguez said he has lived a good and happy life and is prepared to meet his Maker.”
A birthday story for you 4ever!
El- heard that one long ago but it was the Godfather’ accountant. 🙂
coos
It’s definitely an oldie!
4ever is only 26, so he’s probably never heard it.
On the latest 32 Thiughts podcast, Jeff Marek wondered and half-joked that Lamorillo may have signed Kadri, but made him swear to secrecy until October.
Don’t get a chance to check in that often bone heads; but lets get a life Stop with this Kane crap. We’re just fine; we got one of the youngest , most talented hockey team this franchise ever had. Now we’re going to enjoy for several years the spoils that that Garden letter created ; the restructuring of this franchise. At a time when a team hit man is less needed why keep Reeves. Other than being the Anthony Robbins in the Ranger Club house what has he done. He’s slow, hasn’t beaten the crap out of any body yet and often plays out of position. Without him we have enough guys to take care of the rough stuff. Don’t know what Brooks is smoking but stop with The Kane stuff.
Thanks for the laugh St Pete; Old but still funny. Think you’re right Coos on the Godfather reference.
Wick- Haven’t watched quali yet. Probably tonight. Hadn’t heard about Vettel. I guess he’s getting up there in age?

Panarin interview translated
1/–(Media) Artemy, how will you prepare for the next season? Do you feel disappointed? You were so close to getting to the finals and(would want) to show your better form(which you didn’t). Maybe you want to change something in season preparation to play better as a team?
2/–(Panarin) I think that nothing needs to be changed, just work harder. And the way I’ve been preparing for the last 4-5 years, should remain the same… I just became hungrier now, I have a desire to be better, a great feeling of renewed motivation, a new wave of energy…
3/…God help, this will last until the end of my career, and as I realized, it is very important to be motivated, charged, to wake up with joy and go to practice and improve every day. So now I’m in a great mood and cannot wait for the start of the season.
4/–(Media) How about the fact that the center(Strome) with whom you were playing left and Trocheck got signed? How do you feel about it? Probably already used to it? I understand this is a business, but still…
5/–(Panarin) Of course, it’s always hard to part ways… In any case, Stromer and I became friends not only in the dressing room and the rink but also in everyday life. We often shared family joys and difficulties. He became more than a hockey partner for me. But what can I do?
6/–(Media) How do you react to various criticisms… Again, it wasn’t written by us, but by our Western colleagues… that the front office wasn’t satisfied with your performance in the playoffs?
7/–(Panarin) Speculators!… I haven’t heard of such a thing firsthand(from Drury). I’m sure I could play better but… what did they write there… I really don’t know, I came to Korkino to my grandfather…
8/…Why I don’t like these scoundrels-speculators – my grandfather reads it. He also plunged into this Internet drug, into this garbage. All this annoys him, but he does not understand that these are all couch journalists writing out of envy or whatever…
9/…I’m already used to not paying attention, but he always worried and asks me: “Where are they trading you?” I’m just shocked by this. Where are they trading me?…
10/…They can’t trade me! And if those people understood at least a little, they would know that I have a No-move clause and it’s impossible. That’s why….. –(Media) That’s it? –(Panarin) I said everything I wanted to say.
Lol…cccp just burst a lot of the trade Panarin bubbles on this place.
