Well that was ugly. Just a plain old fashioned let down game. Talks amongst yourselves

The one thing I’ll say about this game is that when this team has defensive lapses it gets ugly in a hurry. They’ve put four new players into the lineup in the last ten days and have had some emotional games. I can understand laying an egg once in this one. Better get it together for the Pens though.
James G
Bobby, I wouldn’t worry too much about Braun. At 35 years old I didn’t expect him to move like Makar out there but he makes up for it by knowing where he needs to be in his zone. We’ll be thankful for him in the post season. Not sure Schneider is the guy I want to see out of the lineup..
SN
New guys looked good; ready to give Copp Stromeo’s deal, Motte has a great motor and Braun is very steady and makes great outlets.
Tried to trade chances with Derbils who will play that way every and any game. Needed to play the body more.
They missed Johnny B and Kegger….
simonkimbrell
Talk about getting away from what got you there in the first place, 2-0 up and start playing ridiculous passes, not taking the body and generally sitting back or not covering your man – then before you know it its too late to get back to the game plan. Lets hope they bounce back on Friday vs the Ice chickens
SN
Chytil and Miller are the weak links now. If and when they address their spots in the lineup will determine how far they go.
Jeff
Isn’t it ironic that they paly two games against two of the best teams in the NHL and win;then play like this while removing the boys they were dancing with all year. I know they will be better with these moves but what a disgusting performance last night. There are so many problems with last night’s game that going over them would be way too depressing. For us fans burn the tape from yesterday and hope for a better effort Friday night.
Of the player we brought in at the deadline I think Copp will be the best. Hope they can resign him after the season. Onto Friday and some fun with Cindy.
simonkimbrell
Copp and Motte looked good. Think given the cap hits it will be a straight choice between Stromeo and Copper, and the latter may prove to be a shrewd investment if he’ll accept the terms that Strome won’t
James G
It took one game of Copp in the lineup to show how badly this team needed someone with his versatility. Just a physical N-S guy that can play wing and step in at center. They should have 3 of him in this lineup.
Bdl
So it wasn’t Schneider’s fault?
James G
On the Strome vs Copp issue- Both of them are probably going to get the same contract that Danault got last summer. Just a question of which is getting it from the Rangers.
Strome has started putting the puck in the net again and will finish with 3 straight years of roughly 20-35-55. Pick him apart all you want but that’s production that needs to be made up for regardless of whether it’s been streaky or a biproduct of Panarin etc..
Bdl
Braun looked slow. Not unexpected, he is 35. Liked the way Motte plays. And what James said about Copp.
James G
It’s been said a few times- The kick in the pants is that they can’t keep both but they’ll have a hole in the roster without having both or one and a replacement of equal or greater capability. They’re stuck. Thank Jeff Gorton for that.
Bdl
You let Georgiev go. Trade Chytil, and Nemeth, and if you have to Lindgren, and you keep Strome and Copp.
James G
Braun can play physical smart defense. That’s what he was acquired for and that’s what you need more than anything in the post season. We could probably make a pretty decent sized list of guys like him that have helped their teams get to the SCF the last few years.
James G
What’s the trade market for Kreider going to be like this summer if he finishes with 50 goals and helps them get into the 2nd or 3rd round? Just wondering…
James G
The “hypothetical trade market”…
Bdl
Chytil is not the answer to any of the questions. His days in the lineup end the moment Kakko and Rooney come back. Because Chytil is not an answer, you need two centers.
Bdl
Been trading Kreider since the day he was drafted. Rangers need a number 6 D man. It’s going to cost you Kreider. Carp tried to trade him in every one of his articles two seasons ago. Someday it will happen.
Bdl
James,
It has already been decided that Kreider will never do this again. So his trade market would reflect that. Maybe a second rounder?😁
James G
LOL yeah well we know the can of worms that it will open up…I only bring it up because it’s a fair topic to debate in terms of cap space and strength at his position. Does not mean I want him traded, do not like him, have any issue whatsoever. Just looking at the contract situation overall for any and all players.
cregg7
Braun should play for Nemeth
After he gets used to the team on his natural right side he can switch to the left and then get Schneider back in there.
Bdl
I really don’t know what I think of Nemeth. Sometimes I watch him and see a smart veteran D man. Other times he just a mess. He hasn’t been dealt a good hand this year. First Nils, then Schneider, two rookies, and now a brand new partner. Maybe he’s the problem, maybe not. Hard to say.
Admiral Akbar
Panarin’s play is concerning.
The post-Covid Sx makes a lot of sense.
Beezle
Bobbyo – re your comment late last night. Just because a guy has put some points up doesn’t mean he is playing really well or at the same high level of a season before.
A number of people have picked up on it the past few months – Panarin just seems ‘off’ – slight hesitations on decision making, more errant passes, general energy level. Maybe it is just law of averages, maybe not.
So thankful he is still getting on the sheet but still concerned.
Beezle
Was not really impressed by Braun last night but of course, just his first game and new partner/structure (well, sometimes). Hope GG does a rotation with Schneider these last games.
Do think people make too much about rookies and the playoffs. If the player has shown competence during tight regular season games there is no reason to think they will suddenly crumble.
Beezle
BDL I think they will be moving on from Reaves as well, could save about $1M on the cap.
They may look to move Nemeth too, though not sure they could save much if replaced with another experienced 3rd pair guy.
bobbyo2019
Beezle I guess we have different definition of playing well. He’s paid to put up points and he’s doing that with the team in comfortable playoff position. He is basically the only forward who can consistently create offense 5 on 5
James G
BDL add to that a brush with covid protcol and whatever personal issues he’s had away from the rink. He’s good enough that Sakic brought him back last season for their post season run after having traded him for cap space prior.
bobbyo2019
only one game for Braun but Derbils have some speed up front…we will see if any similar problems with Pens. initial take is Schneider appears more mobile which will be needed and its not like he’s shy physically
James G
I object to that, Bobby. Laf and Goodrow have both scored more than him at even strength this season. Unless you’re talking about primary assists > actual goals.
bobbyo2019
Creating offense includes assists
St Pete Eli
Sorry Chuckleheads they are not as good as they think they are. Fridays game will reveal that they are susceptible to speed and a tenacious forecheck. If I’m wrong I will be the first to admit it.

Minx I feel bad about last night.. maybe this will help the Minxmares?
CCCP
When was the last time we beat the Devils like that? Or any of the division teams?
James G
Last time we beat the Devils like that?
6-1 last March 4th
6-3 last March 6th
6-3 January of 2020
The divisional teams we’ve beaten by 3 goals this season?
4-0 against Columbus
4-1 against the Islanders
4-1 against the Flyers
“good” teams this season?
5-2 against Florida
4-0 against Tampa
5-2 against Boston
4-1 against the Caps
6-3 against Toronto
Let me know if that question was rhetorical. I can come back later and do the games against WC opponents later 😉
CCCP
LOL James…
We’re all those games are as one sided as the one last night? 5 straight goals against lol
CCCP
I appreciate them beating those great teams like Leaves, Tampa,Florida, Craps… but to be embarrassed like that by the Devils? Not easy to swallow that.
CCCP
Watch them go on a long losing streak now.

Bdl
The figures are out there and have been. It’s been talked about repeatedly here and by some beats recently…(I think Vince m mentioned it yesterday somewhere)…these numbers include georgiev’s low cost replacement already
At this point roughly $13.3 mil in cap space with 9 forwards, 5 D, and 2 goalers.
You are missing 2 top 9 centres and a top 9 winger and a 4th liner (or 13th forward if you consider hunt a top 12) a top 6 D and a 7. You have 13.3 mil to do it.
If nemeth and Chytil are back, that’s 2.5 and 2.3 respectively so you have 8.5 left and you haven’t addressed strome position or kakko or extra D or last forward
SN
He somehow escapes criticism because…points but Fox has looked like crapola on a stick in the Dzone since the ASG break.
Wicky
The point is the $$$$ are a problem and there are roster holes.
At some point, there is going to be a player a lot of people like that is going to be a cap casualty…probably Lindgren or kakko sooner and Kreider later. Strome may or may not be back this off-season and has been pointed out numerous times by numerous people here, it’s not the name it’s the points output that needs to be replaced at a similar or lower cap hit than $6 mil per.
Obviously the lower it is, the more help it gives in $$$ for the 3rd line centre void.
Wicky
Fox doesn’t escape criticism, he was criticized rightfully last night and on other threads.
Pete
Nemeth and Braun look to be an opposing playoff team’s dream pairing based on last night’s performance.
Nemeth is a mediocre bottom pair defenseman. We have had worse for sure, but he needs to be carried as opposed to being good enough to carry a rookie. Don’t know a ton about braun, so will withhold judgment for now.
My guess is we seem a steady rotation of nemeth, braun and schneider rest of the way to see which is the least odorous
CCCP
Fox got lucky Ekblad got hurt last year… otherwise, I dont think Fox wins the Norris.

Jeckyl and hide game
Silver lining is, facing that adversity now will keep ‘em honest as torts would say. Don’t get a big head and let up. Play the right way. Hopefully got that stinker out of the way

That’s about how I felt last night, but I wasn’t surprised at all. Fortunately the flat-screen survived and I held back from the beer bottle toss!
Wicky
If Lindgren is the guy that is gone…along with nemeth and chytil… you create 7.8 mil in space but that is before their replacements.
If a young guy from within is on the left, that’s an elc for one spot. I highly doubt the team would use two inexperienced guys on the left in addition to miller, so the third lefty would need to be a vet but at less of a cost than nemeth was so elc and vet for a total of $3 mil combined?
If so, you allow up to 4.8 for the Chytil spot or in the grand scheme if things 13.3 left for second and third line centres, kakko, and one other forward.
Wicky
SN
You didn’t get all upset again did you…it’s going to be ok chum….really, it will.
Wicky
Fwiw, I think the kakko route is a better one although it could conceivably be slightly less cap space available (roughly 500k ir so), but think the on ice replacement has less of a drop off than the Lindgren option.
Always dependant on the names out there though etc
Fun to speculate

The cap next year does make the Barron situation a bit puzzling. It’ll be interesting if the Jets required him to get the deal done, or if NYR offered him up instead of Nils/Jones.

Most bottom pair defenseman are mediocre.
Wicky
They are. It’s rare to find a top 6 d group that are all better than average and that have longevity together.
Were the preds that way a few years back? It was that more of a really good top 4?
bobbyo2019
Tampa had some solid Dman depth last 2 runs

Is some combo of Schneider, Braun, and nemeth solid? Or are they garbage like everyone else on the roster?

How many more goals does cheechoo need to break the franchise record?
He better get there!
Old Ranger Fan
Fox’s fancy pants TO at the blue started the downward spiral. They were looking past the Devils to the Pens and the two quick goals were the worst thing that could happen for them. It gave them an excuse to take the rest of the night off and they weren’t able to recover. No excuse for looking past the Pen though. Big boys’ game on Friday.
St Pete Eli
13 I believe. Jagr had 54?
Wicky
Fox seems to have been a bit off since he and strome had those back to back laughable shootout attempts imho.

in my opinion Nemeth and Schneider (especially Nemeth) were victimized a little more than others against Tampa and Canes. guess that’s why they are the bottom pair, just don’t think Nemeth has been a big help to Schneider

Jones and Shneider is how it should be. Develop the youth. Rangers seem head and shoulders ahead of the league in piss poor player development.
Bdl
Fox has been erratic for months now. Lindgren too.
Wicky
At least they didn’t overpay for Dudley 🙄
Beezle
Also been said for months by a few of us that Fox has been getting too many minutes a game. That is why it was baffling last night Fox was still going out there on the PK. Not out of the realm that Lindgren suffers a little bit as a result too, add in his style of game taking its toll as well..
Beezle
Isn’t it obvious what the NYR need to be more like?
bud gimpe
Interesting that Fox played only 18:56 last night, 3rd fewest on D. He still had 2:11 shorthanded. That’s gotta be his lowest TOI this season. Hopefully, as some have suggested Braun will help to ease the his PK minutes.
Loneranger
Stay with the gal that you brought to the prom. This is not indicative for a team that wins 40 games to date. Two things, subconsciously, they Rangers played extremely hard in their two wins over TB & the Canes. Extremely hard is the word. They got three new players and supposed to play better right. No, they scored early and thought this would be a cake walk. They stopped playing and watched the Devils play. I’ve never seen this team that disorganized. However, maybe most of the players said yeah lets seen what you can do. This rift will pass in time. It did bother me that Andrew Copp made sure he was almost the last person before Kreider to get off the ice. I know he’s close with Trouba but dude you just came; have some respect for the other guys your not our savior. This locker room must be one and everybody I spoke to agrees that there should be a mental adjustment shortly. I still go back to the Esposito Rod Gilbert splitting the clubhouse.
Loneranger
Bud You’re right; he’s not the same Fox before he was injured. What’s with Panaran, he’s 75% of last year. I hope he wasn’t seriously injured last nite

Let me stzrt off by saying I think the toronto mapleleafs have one of the great jerseys of all time. A couple of weeks ago watched the outdoor game with them and the sabers. The uniforms they wore that day were horrible. Never thought i would see anything worse. Tonight i tuned into leafs and devils. You have to look at the crap they are wearing tonight. Whoever designs theses atrocitities has got to be blind. One good thing for the leaf fans is they would have to be rich and crazy to ever buy this stuff. This alternate jersey crap has got to end. This is just embarrasing. King Clancy would be rolling over in his grave if he ever saw this
Pitt next. One thing is sure, they cant play worse then yesterday.

Interesting stat for general consumption…in every full season (so his first 4 nhl seasons) Panarin’s centreman has never scored more than 27 goals…in fact they’ve scored 20, 27, 22, and 20 again…since then, his last two season have been shortened seasons and his centre has a prorated to 82 games goal pace of 21 and 21 goals…right in line with his other centres from 2 other teams (27 again being the highest)….
Not to mention Panarin’s scoring rate since he’s been with his current centre is the highest he’s had in his career
If you hear it from the horse’s mouth, you’re listening to a neigh-sayer.
Bdl
I’m assuming they are practicing today. I have a feeling that one of two things are going to happen. Same lineup, but Copp with Zibanejad and Kreider. Or, Copp to center the third line, and McKegg back, in place of Chytil, to center 4th line.
St Pete Eli
Bench Laffo-Busto he sux. Should have traded the bum at the deadline.
bobbyo2019
Copp was taking alot of face offs the other night anyway. Think he will stay on 3rd line …Reaves may start getting some games off depending on the match up
St Pete Eli
They’gonna get run over Friday night it’s just a matter of whether Igor can bail them out. Let’s hope he isn’t the second best goalie on the ice. Minxmares!
Old Ranger Fan
The games with the Pens will be a measure of how wise Drury’s shopping spree at the deadline was. If the new players don’t allow them to compete against the Pens he didn’t accomplish anything except squander a bunch of draft picks. It’s quite rare that a team that as a group has never won a playoff game can transform themselves into a cup contender at the deadline. If Drury was able to do that it will be quite an accomplishment.
Bdl
The playoffs will be the measuring stick.

I really love the phrase “with all due respect” because it doesn’t specify how much respect is due. Could be none. B*tch.
BDL I think it depends on the opponent but overall I like the second lineup better. It’s more of what I think they need from a third line. If and when Rooney is back I think you can afford to experiement with some things including Motte at center but it’s unlikely.
Wicky
Bdl
Bottom quite substantially
James G
In general if you bring in a 3C and need him on the RW in the top six then what’s that say about Laf and eventually Kakko if he’s on the third line? How does your boss feel when he needs to bring in a guy from another department to do your job instead of what he was hired for?
St Pete Eli

I like #2 but I would rather see
Kreider, Zibanejad, Lafreniere
Panarin, Strome, Vatrano
Goodrow, Copp, Chytil
Motte, McKegg, Hunt

That is not a slight against Strome, just the reality that injuries do happen and better to get some familiarity when not under the gun.
bobbyo2019
Copp will be centering third line —don’t think he was brought in to play wing
Also don’t see Hunt coming out of the lineup..nor should he
Beezle
Not dissing Hunt here, he’s met expectations, perhaps exceeded at times but why should he be reserved a space? He has one more point than Kakko and has played 22 more games.
GG needs to see what Kakko brings when he gets back on the ice before saying he sits.
Wicky
Bdl
10:14 is spot on imho.
bobbyo2019
Hunt does what he’s paid to do…very consistently and more importantly whats needed come playoff time. Not saying Kakko shouldnt play but he won’t be replacing Hunt.
Wicky
Hunt is signed for 750k next season…depending on other moves and subsequent cap totals it’s pretty likely he’s in the top 12 forwards next season and definitely the 13rh at worst I’d think.

Well, I wonder how Brooks would have spun this right away lol
#Isles Injury Updates: Forward Cal Clutterbuck will miss the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury that will require surgery. Defenseman Scott Mayfield will miss 4-6 weeks with a lower body injury.
NYR Twitter is not happy about Laf on the 3rd line 🙂

Copp is going to have a big role. Fans better get used to the idea. Some of their favorite players ice time is going to suffer because of it.

Howden was already falling, which we know he did a lot as a Ranger, but I’d say Forsberg should get at least a game. (It’s the NHL so who knows?) More importantly, as Jeff said, hopefully Howden’s ok.
The first thought I had after seeing the play was that Howden fell at least once per game with NYR. Seemed Forsberg was off balance too, so seemed accidental.

May be his best work; explains the shuffling in the lineup. Ask questions and get answers, it’s almost like reporting…
Gerard Gallant has warned #NYR players that there is going to be a period of trial and error with the lineup. Part of that will be Alexis Lafrenière to the 3rd line, so I asked around for insight into why that decision was made.
Moving Laffy to LW3 is one thing but leaving Flip at 3C is a whole other level of wtf.
Imho Laffy has proven he can be a very good two way player in this league. The Dzone issues are where he needs to clean it up, but the other 2/3 he has been playing well.

BDL I think they will be moving on from Reaves as well, could save about $1M on the cap.
They may look to move Nemeth too, though not sure they could save much if replaced with another experienced 3rd pair guy.
Beezle I guess we have different definition of playing well. He’s paid to put up points and he’s doing that with the team in comfortable playoff position. He is basically the only forward who can consistently create offense 5 on 5
BDL add to that a brush with covid protcol and whatever personal issues he’s had away from the rink. He’s good enough that Sakic brought him back last season for their post season run after having traded him for cap space prior.
only one game for Braun but Derbils have some speed up front…we will see if any similar problems with Pens. initial take is Schneider appears more mobile which will be needed and its not like he’s shy physically
I object to that, Bobby. Laf and Goodrow have both scored more than him at even strength this season. Unless you’re talking about primary assists > actual goals.
Creating offense includes assists
Sorry Chuckleheads they are not as good as they think they are. Fridays game will reveal that they are susceptible to speed and a tenacious forecheck. If I’m wrong I will be the first to admit it.
Minx I feel bad about last night.. maybe this will help the Minxmares?
When was the last time we beat the Devils like that? Or any of the division teams?
Last time we beat the Devils like that?
6-1 last March 4th
6-3 last March 6th
6-3 January of 2020
The divisional teams we’ve beaten by 3 goals this season?
4-0 against Columbus
4-1 against the Islanders
4-1 against the Flyers
“good” teams this season?
5-2 against Florida
4-0 against Tampa
5-2 against Boston
4-1 against the Caps
6-3 against Toronto
Let me know if that question was rhetorical. I can come back later and do the games against WC opponents later 😉
LOL James…
We’re all those games are as one sided as the one last night? 5 straight goals against lol
I appreciate them beating those great teams like Leaves, Tampa,Florida, Craps… but to be embarrassed like that by the Devils? Not easy to swallow that.
He somehow escapes criticism because…points but Fox has looked like crapola on a stick in the Dzone since the ASG break.
Fox doesn’t escape criticism, he was criticized rightfully last night and on other threads.
Fox got lucky Ekblad got hurt last year… otherwise, I dont think Fox wins the Norris.
On other threads like HF boards…
I believe Schneider can play the left or right side, despite being a righty.
Not other sites, other threads on this blog…I’m just here to help you out 👍
Rangers really hung Shesty out to dry and then couldn’t recover the momentum
Jeckyl and hide game
Silver lining is, facing that adversity now will keep ‘em honest as torts would say. Don’t get a big head and let up. Play the right way. Hopefully got that stinker out of the way
Integrating 4 new players teams seem to need a little adjustment period to feel normal
Beezle 12:22
That’s about how I felt last night, but I wasn’t surprised at all. Fortunately the flat-screen survived and I held back from the beer bottle toss!
SN
You didn’t get all upset again did you…it’s going to be ok chum….really, it will.
Fwiw, I think the kakko route is a better one although it could conceivably be slightly less cap space available (roughly 500k ir so), but think the on ice replacement has less of a drop off than the Lindgren option.
Always dependant on the names out there though etc
Fun to speculate
Jamesgeau
Beezle…..Monty Python? Haha.
Puts me to think maybe what the Rangers really need is the Holy Hand grenade of Antioch that Brother Maynard carries. It seemed to work against that awful viscous rabbit…it’s bound to work against Penguins. Otherwise my optimism is fading.
Thou shall count to three
For everyone’s viewing pleasure
The cap next year does make the Barron situation a bit puzzling. It’ll be interesting if the Jets required him to get the deal done, or if NYR offered him up instead of Nils/Jones.
Most bottom pair defenseman are mediocre.
They are. It’s rare to find a top 6 d group that are all better than average and that have longevity together.
Were the preds that way a few years back? It was that more of a really good top 4?
Tampa had some solid Dman depth last 2 runs
Is some combo of Schneider, Braun, and nemeth solid? Or are they garbage like everyone else on the roster?
I didn’t have a problem with Nemeth / Schneider
Me either, it was just an overall question.
How many more goals does cheechoo need to break the franchise record?
He better get there!
13 I believe. Jagr had 54?
Fox seems to have been a bit off since he and strome had those back to back laughable shootout attempts imho.
Thanks st Pete
in my opinion Nemeth and Schneider (especially Nemeth) were victimized a little more than others against Tampa and Canes. guess that’s why they are the bottom pair, just don’t think Nemeth has been a big help to Schneider
Sell sell sell
🙄
Jones and Shneider is how it should be. Develop the youth. Rangers seem head and shoulders ahead of the league in piss poor player development.
Fox has been erratic for months now. Lindgren too.
At least they didn’t overpay for Dudley 🙄
Also been said for months by a few of us that Fox has been getting too many minutes a game. That is why it was baffling last night Fox was still going out there on the PK. Not out of the realm that Lindgren suffers a little bit as a result too, add in his style of game taking its toll as well..
Isn’t it obvious what the NYR need to be more like?
Interesting that Fox played only 18:56 last night, 3rd fewest on D. He still had 2:11 shorthanded. That’s gotta be his lowest TOI this season. Hopefully, as some have suggested Braun will help to ease the his PK minutes.
It’s a long season. The moves that drury made will help to shoulder the load. When your a buyer it takes a bit to get settled. I guess no news is good news on Panarin. Personally I hope his family is doing okay.
Jeff, Loaves unis designed by world renowned clothing designer Justin Bieber.lol
Bieber….lol
That devils third jersey has black and whit me stripes that made me on at least two occasions mistake a player for a linesman
Wait…there were officials at that game?!
😉
Interesting stat for general consumption…in every full season (so his first 4 nhl seasons) Panarin’s centreman has never scored more than 27 goals…in fact they’ve scored 20, 27, 22, and 20 again…since then, his last two season have been shortened seasons and his centre has a prorated to 82 games goal pace of 21 and 21 goals…right in line with his other centres from 2 other teams (27 again being the highest)….
Not to mention Panarin’s scoring rate since he’s been with his current centre is the highest he’s had in his career
But yeah, his current centre blows
https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/two-sentences-on-every-nhl-trade-deadline-deal-of-significance-in-2022/
If you hear it from the horse’s mouth, you’re listening to a neigh-sayer.
I’m assuming they are practicing today. I have a feeling that one of two things are going to happen. Same lineup, but Copp with Zibanejad and Kreider. Or, Copp to center the third line, and McKegg back, in place of Chytil, to center 4th line.
Bench Laffo-Busto he sux. Should have traded the bum at the deadline.
Copp was taking alot of face offs the other night anyway. Think he will stay on 3rd line …Reaves may start getting some games off depending on the match up
They’gonna get run over Friday night it’s just a matter of whether Igor can bail them out. Let’s hope he isn’t the second best goalie on the ice. Minxmares!
The playoffs will be the measuring stick.
Three acquisitions have played one game with Rangers….AND ITS OVER!
I really love the phrase “with all due respect” because it doesn’t specify how much respect is due. Could be none. B*tch.
Which lineup is better,
Kreider, Zibanejad, Copp
Panarin, Strome, Vatrano
Lafrenier, Chytil, Hunt
Motte, Goodrow, Reeves
Or,
Kreider, Zibanejad, Lafrenier
Panarin, Strome, Vatrano
Goodrow, Copp, Hunt
Motte, McKegg, Reeves.
bobbyo
It was over when the season began.
Cccp
There’s a print out somewhere that shows it.
BDL I think it depends on the opponent but overall I like the second lineup better. It’s more of what I think they need from a third line. If and when Rooney is back I think you can afford to experiement with some things including Motte at center but it’s unlikely.
Bdl
Bottom quite substantially
In general if you bring in a 3C and need him on the RW in the top six then what’s that say about Laf and eventually Kakko if he’s on the third line? How does your boss feel when he needs to bring in a guy from another department to do your job instead of what he was hired for?
Bdl
I like #2 but I would rather see
Kreider, Zibanejad, Lafreniere
Panarin, Strome, Vatrano
Goodrow, Copp, Chytil
Motte, McKegg, Hunt
Against the dirty puke pens.
I like the second lineup better as well. You eventually replace Hunt with Kakko, and McKegg with Rooney. Hunt and Reeves share time.
da Post headline: Rangers not worried about Shesterkin, blame ‘stupid hockey’ for rough spell
But when Georgie gets creamed, “He sucks!”
BDL like your second better and including Kakko/Rooney when available. But I also believe NYR need to get Copp some time with Bread prior to the playoffs.
That is not a slight against Strome, just the reality that injuries do happen and better to get some familiarity when not under the gun.
Copp will be centering third line —don’t think he was brought in to play wing
Also don’t see Hunt coming out of the lineup..nor should he
Not dissing Hunt here, he’s met expectations, perhaps exceeded at times but why should he be reserved a space? He has one more point than Kakko and has played 22 more games.
GG needs to see what Kakko brings when he gets back on the ice before saying he sits.
Bdl
10:14 is spot on imho.
Hunt does what he’s paid to do…very consistently and more importantly whats needed come playoff time. Not saying Kakko shouldnt play but he won’t be replacing Hunt.
Hunt is signed for 750k next season…depending on other moves and subsequent cap totals it’s pretty likely he’s in the top 12 forwards next season and definitely the 13rh at worst I’d think.
Well, I wonder how Brooks would have spun this right away lol
Lou takes alot of naps but has some integrity
Vince Z. Mercogliano
@vzmercogliano
Looks like we have some line changes at today’s #NYR practice:
Kreider – Zib – Vatrano
Panarin – Strome – Copp
Laf – Chytil – Goodrow
Motte – Brodzinski – Hunt
Another option is to move Laffy with Copp to create 3 tandems if LW-C for more balance and offensive threat.
THE-Mika-Hunt (Kakko)
Bread-Stromeo-Vatrano
Laffy-Copp-Goodrow
Motte-Kegger-Reavo
Guess who’s missing…
I think Hunt brings more to the table than others give him credit for
Otoh
NYR Twitter is not happy about Laf on the 3rd line 🙂
Copp is going to have a big role. Fans better get used to the idea. Some of their favorite players ice time is going to suffer because of it.
from staple
5th line and 3rd pair
Julien Gauthier, Greg McKegg, Ryan Reaves
Patrik Nemeth is still skating with Justin Braun.
Eventually I would like to see these 4 combos,
Kreider, Zibanejad
Panarin, Strome,
Goodrow, Copp,
Motte, Rooney.
Fill in the other 4 forwards as you see fit.
Nemeth and Braun will look like pylons trying to defend against the dirty birds.
Anyone know if there’s a link on Twitter about practice lines?
Lol
St Pete
They’re flightless birds, they’ll still have to go around them 😉
Wicky
Good point so there’s still hope 😉
Minx – don’t you mean swim around like they’re an iceberg?
Beezle
I can see that.
IRISH BABY!
Which one of youse designed the UM*sshole (Lowell) sweater? Yikes.

Prayer for Brett Howden. Scary hit by Forsberg. According to his coach he has movement in arms and legs and was still in hospital. With the speed of the game and the increased size of players over the years amazing to see these injuries and worse does not happen more often.
Howden was already falling, which we know he did a lot as a Ranger, but I’d say Forsberg should get at least a game. (It’s the NHL so who knows?) More importantly, as Jeff said, hopefully Howden’s ok.
https://nypost.com/2022/03/24/rangers-have-eyes-on-umass-standout-bobby-trivigno/
The first thought I had after seeing the play was that Howden fell at least once per game with NYR. Seemed Forsberg was off balance too, so seemed accidental.
How fast into tonight’s game do the puke pens get a PP?
Howden 47 games 9G 11A > Chytil 52 games 6G 10A
let the wrong guy go
Cap is reported to go up $1M next year

A LoneRanger briefly n0ted, interesting to see Copp not immediately realize he had to defer to Kreider leaving the ice. You could say that Copp is ether a born leader or presumptuous.
Waiting for KAM is like Waiting for Godot. Tragicomedy in progress.
Hate seeing that play with Howden. Yikes.
10 years ago I was in a Halo Neck brace for a fracture from going headfirst into boards. Thank god my spinal cord was ok.
This year I finally got the courage or the insanity to get back on the ice in a mens league.
Had just been coaching up until 5 weeks ago. But it’s my favorite sport ever. I couldn’t stay away. Fingers crossed no further injuries.
May be his best work; explains the shuffling in the lineup. Ask questions and get answers, it’s almost like reporting…
SN
Because it’s the Rangers!
Moving Laffy to LW3 is one thing but leaving Flip at 3C is a whole other level of wtf.
Imho Laffy has proven he can be a very good two way player in this league. The Dzone issues are where he needs to clean it up, but the other 2/3 he has been playing well.
When the time comes, Chytil will be in street clothes. Right now is not that time.
the coaching staff apparently likes Chytil more than folks here
I wouldn’t bet on it.
Cregg- I played street hockey as a kid. When I was in my thirties, I learned how to roller blade and had the opportunity to play with some friends. I played into my early forties and had a blast until they tore our rink down. Now I’m in my early sixties and WAY out of shape. Don’t think I could play again if I wanted to. Anyway, I’m just saying that I’m glad you’re playing while you still can. Be safe and enjoy!
well the fact that he’s getting center work initially after these moves is telling to some extent
Chytil will be named the next NYR captain before playoffs start. Book it.
C3
Czechmate!
Chytil is still getting center work because Rooney remains out.
Thanks Eddie!
I suppose you people want a go time post…
Done. Go time at 6:30p kids. No BANJing!!
