Had a busy day, missed Carp’s new article from the Athletic.
It sounds very much as it is just a formality at the moment, and JD will become a new President in NY as soon as the Blue Jackets finish their season.
Two games tonight:
Hurricanes- Islanders, 7 pm start, TV-NBCSN
Avalanche-Sharks, 10 pm start, TV-NBCSN

FIRE SATHER!
Wasn’t apparent to me you were being sarcastic James. My bad
Let’s Go Canes!
I like JD as much as the next guy….but is it a good thing if he is Sathers replacement? One thing to consider is very few on this blog will flog him the way they did cigar man.
The Canes goalie is bery, bery good.
If JD doesn’t win a cup in 20 years like stogypuss, I’ll flog him just as bad.
Brooklyn quiet as a morgue compared to the Mausoleum
This game is kinda dull.
Other then his (JD) connection to the Rangers, what makes JD so desirable?
Ps, FUGG THE ISLANDERS!
JD could replace Micheletti.
Or JD could replace Sather….
Or is Sather truly irreplaceable?
Fishtanks will won in OT.
It looks like the Brooklynites are determined to win this one.
Brooklyn Car Salesmen are rested. So the longer this game goes, the better off they should be.
Islanders might not give up a goal until they play Boston.
Trotz looks like a flesh colored bowling ball.
Neckless Uncle Fester is damn serious to move his bucket of fishes further on the market.
NoNeck will have all 6 players playing goal at some point.
Brind Amour is no beauty either. If ugly were bricks he could build Trumsky’s Wall.
Finally got it in! Sweet Caroline.
Suck it, Icelanders!
Ah, Nino hopefully will be a thorn in his old team’s side all series 🙂
Honey on my achy heart! Suck this Isledorks!
Excellent start. Missed all the boring stuff driving back to the tundra and the secure bunker.
Tarrytown Kid > Azzdancers Alum > Staals other brother
.
Wee hoo- be funny if they don’t win in Crooklyn all series
Chains on?
Snow coming on Sunday
Nice pass of the end boards by Nino. Isles seemed to have better chances and the interference call on the goal was iffy. Still good to see the Isles lose.
Two or three inches tomorrow above 3300′
Game over.
See this place can be dead as a door nail if us boneheads aren’t talking gibberish 😉
I’m staining my deck in dirty jerz and yous are still worried about chains on your tires.
Can’t wait for Wicky to get all grumpy when it starts going up into the 40s out there 🙂
So I had an idea.
Let’s do a little social experiment.
I suppose that if someone started a Twitter ‘thing’ where all hockey writers and twitter/tv personalities and even players…..
If they changed their twitter picture to them holding up a cat next to their face…..
That ‘we’ could make the kid with a cat a man made in the social media game…..
Just like ‘we’ did with John Scott by entering him into the minds of the public as a warm/sympathic funny person to get behind…..
Let’s create a possible career path and social media avenue for the kid just to prove how things work in the social media game
https://mobile.twitter.com/mannyelk?lang=en
This is for you manny 😉
(See what I done there when I realized the kid’s name was manny)?
Pete, it’s all good. My point was that I’ve never been on the hate wagon for Chytil or Lias nor have I ever advocated trading down to avoid Hughes.
As for the blueline I don’t think anyone here is opposed to turning over at least 3/6 of it.
Gotcha. largely agree tho I just have less optimism for Lias’s ceiling or Chytils ability to put it all together (think he has a lot of raw skill tho).
Man Karlson doesn’t look like the same player we saw two playoffs ago. didn’t notice any burst of speed, his passing didn’t stand out and looked more like Shatty defensively than Leetch. Buyer beware!
I don’t think Karlsson is particularly healthy and it’s been that way for a while now. They said late in the season it was a nagging groin injury and shut him down for a bit but something tells me it was more significant than that and they were trying to get him to as close to 100% as possible for the 1st round. It would be a real shame if that achilles issue is the culprit.
On another note, Pavelski hadn’t missed a playoff game since his rookie year in 2007 until last night. As this series heats up they’re going to miss him. Hopefully they don’t try to rush him back. He’s a great player but he’s no spring chicken.
Karlsson = Dan Boyle? I wonder who will overpay for him? The term will be the issue. At the end someone will be hoping for a lockout so they can buy him out. Breadman will be the better purchase.
Also, Petr Mrazek played about as well as I’ve ever seen him play last night. He’s been around a while. Very streaky goalie but he’s got a decent D in front of him for the first time in a while. Hope he has it in him to help get them into the ECF.
Speaking of goalies, Jordan Binnington’s story is a Disney movie in the making. I had no idea he’d been around in the minors so long. Dude is killing it. Don’t think they’ll get past Dallas but you never know
ORF, I have little doubt in my mind that breadman is going to Florida. I dont even consider him a UFA option anymore. This could be one of those disaster summers for some GMs. Damaged goods galore on the open market.
Pete- I think it’s tough any time you put young rookies under a microscope. Here’s what I know about Chytil and Lias-
-Neither is going to be a franchise player or a stud that’s stapled to the first line for the next 10 years.
-Very few guys from that draft will be. Getting all up in arms about where Andersson was taken and all that is a waste of time.
-Neither should really be over- analyzed considering how poorly this team played defensively as a whole
-Both have the potential to be solid players on this team for a while if used in the proper situations once they’re ready.
So I am withholding judgement. Not saying either is good or bad or will only be this or that. Just not forming an opinion until I see more.
Interesting that a major thing everyone is looking for in a team president is someone who won’t screw up what they are already doing and will keep Dolan form doing the same. His task will be to keep Dolan occupied so Gorton can do his job. I’d like to see the ad for that job opening:
Job: Major Sports Franchise President in one of largest US markets.
Duties: Convince mettlesome owner that the plan he approved last year is on track and he should continue to stay out of the day to day operation of team, advocate for large market team with board of Governors and league commissioner and schmooze with media. Minimal role in player and coaching staff acquisition is anticipated. General manager will retain these responsibilities.
Qualifications: Well known name in the sport. Previous successful performance in the position helpful, but, not required.
Salary:Open
We shall see James and if Gorton and Clark had kept their mouths shut and not say Lias was basically NhL I think we’d be having a somewhat different conversation. That being said, it still doesn’t look like they took the best available player, which was more troubling. Safe is death!
James if you get bored and need more to do, I have another collapse around a culvert crossing my driveway from an overloaded waterfall. See had bad warmer temps are? If it had stayed ice this never would have happened!
JD is a safe choice. They know him, he knows them. But He has accomplished very little is ST Louis and Columbus. I think CBJs round one victory was JDs first.
James,
I think Chytil ceiling is very high. I have many concerns about him as a player, but my biggest is his hockey brain.
Bdl
Can’t disagree on Chytil, but not many hockey brains up to NHL speed at age 19.
Minx are you suggesting that Chytil’s nickname should be Scarecrow instead of Magician?
Beexle
😂
The Barclays Center will be the end of this “magic” run by the Isles team. That ice is literal sh*t and the atmosphere is terrible. Hurricanes in 6.
Ice everywhere is an NHL embarrassment, Barclays especially.
I thought before the series Candy Canes in 7….
(You know, 1-1 after 2, 2-2 after 4, 3-3 after 6…. etc.)
USA falls to the Russians in a shoot-out. Russian 16 yr. old goalie stole the show!
‘You are like a hurricane
There’s calm in your eye
And I’m getting blown away…’
Players get smarter as they get a bit older. Look at what McKinnon has become. Look at Sebastian Aho. Even guys like Tomas Hertl. They all took a big step forward this season and are having impressive playoff showings to this point.
Only guy who still does the same crap he did as a rookie that pops into my mind is Kreider lol
Ivanovich Yousonavich
Kreider greatly overrated intellectually. (said with cordiality)
Kevin Hayes is the other guy who increased his hockey IQ a lot since year 2.
Hughes et al completely psyched out by the Russian goalie. They didn’t even get a shot off in the shootout. Either lost the puck or crammed it into his pads. He isn’t draft eligible for two more years. Will be 5 or more before he might cross the pond.
Oh great. That goalie will probably get drafted by the Islanders and he’ll tourment us for years making Hughes or Kakko a total bust and inevitably help the Islanders win a Stanley Cup. OH THE PAIN!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!!!!!

Let’s talk about a pressing issue…Best temperature to smoke a rack of ribs. Do I hear 240 degrees F?
Tug McGraw, Mets old reliever, when asked if he preferred artificial turf or natural grass, replied ‘Not sure. Never smoked artificial turf.” Can’t imagine smoking ribs.
McGraw should probably ask Haze I’m sure he has?
McGraw’s the crime dog in the trench coat?
