lmao TYM true dat
AV IS WILL FERRELL in this sketch ..he’s now back at home w his daughter….
“Wilson crushed Zach Aston-Reese with a shoulder-to-head hit that left the Penguins player with a broken jaw and a concussion.”
Pens got burned out trying to get the winner and had nothing in the tank when the Caps broke it out. They should have changed up during that surge to get fresh legs out there for the last minute, but, got greedy. Holmqvist goes straight legged and gets beat to the net by OVI who puts the cherry on top by playing the carom off the post into the net. I’m sure Pierre thought only Sidney (or perhaps Kristopher) could do that.
Does Wilson get a hearing this time? Do the Pens have a”deterrent”? Tune in Thursday to see.
If that wasn’t a deliberate attempt to injure an opponent, then there’s no such thing. I’m pretty sure the NHL wants it in the game, though. Sheer bloodlust.
JR: “Every playoff team needs a detergent dressed in case the referees start to swallow their whistles.”
Good morning, boneheads!
Only watched Pittsburgh-Washington last night. If Washington fails to advance again, do not blame Ovechkin. He is delivering this postseason. Backstrom? Not so much, his pass on GWG notwithstanding. I always felt that Backstrom’s level of play goes down during playoffs, especially when it gets rough physically.
I’m anxious to see the excuse DOPS comes up with in order to not suspend Wilson this time.
I loved Wilson in ‘Castaweay,’ but he’s taken an evil turn.
Wilson!

Truth is, Wilson can be effective without trying to end someone career or damage their long term health. He has enough hockey skills, and can use his size and physicality without head hunting. If he thinks all these repetitive head jolts and fights won’t damage his own health later on in life, he should think again.
Few of these guys worry about health later in life when they can cash multi-million dollar paychecks.
As Gordie Howe said, always wear a cup, but don’t worry about head shots. You can always hire someone to do your thinking for you. 🙂
Some of them either won’t live long enough to use these paychecks or will not know what to do with them.
I highly recommend Ken Dryden’s “Game Change”. Every hockey player should read it. And every hockey executive.
Wilson is involved in way too many of these incidents. It’s not just coincidence. The league is setting itself up to lose a big lawsuit.
And Norm’s back from sabbatical.
James said:
Don’t worry James, the Caps know very well how to wrap their hands tightly around their own necks, many years of practice.
Pens just traded 2 future first rounders to get Reeves back from Vegas for next game. Gary just approved post deadline deal
Probably in the minority but I’ve watched the latest Wilson hit in slo-mo a few times and have no problem with it. He led with shoulder, Aston-Reese knew there was going to be a collision (he was boxed in by ref on boards and Beagle) and Aston-Reese threw his own shoulder into it. That shoulder also came up into Wilson’s chin and Aston-Reese had enough on his side of the hit to put Wilson in the bench.
Somehow I think people would still be crying about this hit even if both of their heads had missed each other by a millimeter. I guess we need a rule that if you are taller than the other guy you can’t hit him anymore (Wilson has 4″ on Aston-Reese).
One of the bonuses of the Athletic is reading Pen authors and fans crying……need to stop worrying about Wilson and stop giving Caps odd man rushes and soft goals. Matta turnover on winner and Murray gotta stop Niskanen slapshot from blueline is reason they lost last night
Beezle, headshot that resulted in a concussion and a broken jaw. He also left his feet to follow through. They will never be able to get rid of head injuries if they start nitpicking every hit like that.

If the league really cared about the head shots, there is an easy fix. Suspend the coach along with the player. You will see how quick these coaches reign in there players, or bench them all together. But the league really doesn’t care about the head shots, so they do nothing. Wilson is nothing a good old fashioned bench clearing brawl can’t fix.
Problem is the league look for a way to disprove the headshot and the punishment is usually dependent on the injury.
If they said headshot minimum 3 game ban, plus the possibility of more if its predatory/repeat offence….there would be a lot more shoulder and hip checks
Pitt should have picked up The Undertaker from Detroit for a pittance. Wilson would be not only toasted with lefts and rights, but also would be off the ice for 7 minutes each occurrence. Lions make leopards tame.
Pathetic Pitt Management and Press, complaining like children. They knew what to expect yet did nada to neutralize Terrible Tom.
And Eff Ken Dryden.
Don’t really see the allure of the caps series over the jets series, but I watched the jets series except during the intermissions.
I actually thought the shot on dumolin was worse than the one last night. The nhl will punish the result not the hit, that is a joke.
If I was an nhl player, I’d hit everything in sight, helluva lot less likely to have concussion issues being the hitter as opposed to the hittee
I can pretty much guarantee Wilson has made it a certainty the pens will add some beef over the off season.
Unless you’re hitting Messier, Wick. 🙂
Until the nhl slows the game down, there is no way to take anything they do about safety seriously.
Headshots or not.
Coos
Very valid point!
After you attempted to mug Messier and you get an sharp elbow and a bloody nose as a result, you had to deal with Gravy.
A couple of interviews on RDS saying mtl should trade back from 3 unless Svechnikov is there (I don’t think he will be).
Coos
Yeah, that was back when hockey was fun to watch…at least you didn’t feel like you just watched 5v5 tennis with a goalie at each end.
Pierre: Alex tell me about the overtime winner?
Ovi: First of all, it was the third period!
🙂
smiley face for tennis

I sure hate it when those shoulder to shoulder hits result in shattered jaws. It has been happening too often lately. I wonder why this player seems to hit opponents in their heads so after. What a weird coincidence. Scott Stevens is the last one that played with this unfortunate handicap.
One glaring Rangers problem is they can’t afford to trade either of their two top (but still questionable ) Dmen for forward/center help or they have nothing left on the back end but Shatty who has never learned to play defense.
Take 10% off your entire order. Just pay 20% shipping and handling for that 10%
Smiley for titties.
Imagine all the odd things that would occur if women’s titties were where their ears are now?
That would not be very convenient.
How can one play the sport all their life, make it to to highest level possible, and still not know how to play their position right? Is learning how to play defense in hockey harder than learning rocket science?
The IIHF Disciplinary Board has handed down multiple suspensions to both players and coaches of the Swedish National Junior team for their conduct during the medal ceremony of the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship in Buffalo, USA.
The player suspensions are as follows:

Good morning Boneheads welcome to Wednesday! Me and the wife spent last night watching our Grandson so I had to watch the DVR replay’s again. Love seeing the guins lose and hearing them cry. They are such a rinky dink fan base with that stinking horn and let’s go pens chant. For some reason theirs is more obnoxious than some of the other squawk horns around the league. If it wasn’t for drafting cindy and malkinstein they would all be cheering the Steelers. Ovie has been a beast here’s hoping he keeps the foot to the pedal! If Hellebuyck holds up the Jets could lift the cup. It could happen?
Even on Ovie’s game winning goal Pierre had to give recognition to Crosby having similar skills, “A la Crosby” Come on Pierre stop being so obvious with your affection for Cindy!
3C – My theory is that from the time a kid ties on his first skates, dads and coaches train him to skate the puck out of his own end. Many (most?) of these kids become defensemen early on because their coaches need kids who can skate and puck handle or his team would never get down ice. So, they become offensive defensemen. By the time they’re drafted, the die is cast. Only an oddball here and there plays effective D.
If you have two Ovi’s, does that mean you have Ovae or Ovem?
Or is Ovi already two Ova?
BTW, new law cropping up across the Country: OVI Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated. You don’t have to be driving to get this one, just sitting in your car blotto. on the side of the road. The law assumes that you are “operating” or have arrived where you are by having “operated.”
What’s the big deal about Rocket Science? You light off some explosives and watch your rocket go bye -bye.
i like speed in the nhl. just get rid of the worst of the headhunters. dept of player safety needs to do it’s job.
Bye bye Marchand then!!
So Wilson is scheduled for a hearing. I don’t think it was good “optics” that he was smiling on the bench after breaking someone’s jaw. Did Prust get suspended for braking Stepan’s jaw? Kadri got three games. Let’s see what kind of a message they want to send.
I think Prust got two games.
Two Ovis = Ovaries.
24 points for Ovechkin in his last 17 post season games against the Pens.
I dare say that while there hasn’t really been a moment quite as dramatic as his goal last night, he’s done his part despite the record against the Pens
Button (I think is one of the more reliable prospect guys) has kotkaniemi as a top 5 area guy. Says very similar to kopitar. Mentioned barkov as well.
Seems like a no brainer pick for rangers if available or move Up to get him if true.
Read through Daniel Carcillo’s last 10 or so tweets. They’re quite impressive.
https://mobile.twitter.com/CarBombBoom13
The Rangers signed Lindqvist. Watched his highlights. He’s a right shot. Something the Rangers lack. A right shooting forward.
Looks like we can scratch Jim Montgomery off the Rangers coaching list. Francois Gagnon of RDS is reporting that Montgomery is going to replace Ken Hitchcock in Dallas.
This URL links to the Gagnon’s story in French:

Vincent
This morning I woke up to a story about Montgomery being our top choice. Then I took some time off from the internet, come back, and see “Montgomery hired by Dallas.”
St Pete – but for a slight twist in fate, the Pens could’ve come out with Bobby Ryan and Cam Barker instead of Sid and Geno. Amazing.
James
Agree with you on Ovi. Caps fans can’t really blame Alex anymore.
I’d go as far as saying that Holtby is more at fault than Ovi for Washington’s inability to close series. He seems so lazy in net.
Well C3, Let’s not tell Holtby but he’s the better goalie in this series right now. They better win before it dawns on him and he unravels
Bdl
Can he hit the net or does he hit the logo?
Great, now Every win Dallas gets on a night that the Rangers lose will cause a rant.
Shoulda jumped on hiring him when they had a chance. Quinn now my number 1 choice
Winnipeg= real deal. Loving it.
If only that were true Dave it would have been glorious!
James
Will the Rangers every be the real deal? I wonder!
Something tells me our next coach will be a familiar face!
And really you gotta look at it from Montgomery’s point of view too.
Dallas:
Seguin, Benn, Radulov, Bishop, the kid on D that’s a big prospect- somethingkein?
Rangers:
Zibanejad, Hank, Pionk, Zuccarello and the 9th overall pick in a city full of pissy over dramatic ‘what have you done for me lately’ fans.
I know which one I’d choose..
Familiar faces = no thank you
I agree James no thank you as well, but this is the Rangers!
JamesG have you been to Dallas?
If we hire a retread….. f@ck this team, I’m out….
No to Quinn, yes to Vincent
Yes to Quinn 🙂
Great job by Carp to point out that Lias Andersson’s suspension is a waste of time considering he is not eligible to play in the WJC next year. Sounds like the IIHF handed over the disciplinary job to the NHL.
https://theathletic.com/339493/2018/05/02/rangers-lias-andersson-suspended-for-international-tournament-hes-not-eligible-to-play-in-anyway/
James – Don’t forget Klingberg. That Dallas team has some core
Didn’t Quinn take another job with USA hockey or something? Or am I thinking about the wrong guy?
Our next coach needs to be an ex circus vender specializing in cotton candy sales! Perfect for the MSG clown show!
