Serious question. They don’t fire AV right now because the season does not matter anymore or because they aren’t planning to fire him at all?
AV got it in the neck here when decided to go non-bland and mention something about inconsistent goaltending. Always go bland.
Brooksie needs to write an article saying that AV has to go.
soft soft soft
Obviously, Gorton will get a couple years at least to see how all this pans out.
BDL
they were done and saddled with some crazy contracts
henrik
staal
girardi
stepan
i’m not counting nash only because his deal ends now.
so would trading for a 1st last yr have helped. likely not.
keeping stepan have helped. likely not
and i don’t mean getting in as wildcard and losing quickly.
so now we have 2 guys from last yr [plus whoever we traded for in players and picks this yr)
a better future to look forward to then we did a yr ago.
i don’t expect a playoff team next yr but do see a better future beyond that.
the goal is the cup.
Norm with the truth. But I also think it’s incumbent on the coaches to recognize who is in the lineup and adjust their game plan to give those players a chance to succeed. A little bit of Boucher or Torts style of defense first might help the beleaguered goalie.
it’s real comforting to know that Sather is not going to abandon us…
AV’s been given plenty of horses the past few seasons and neither he nor said horses were able to get the job done, with both making their fair share of bonehead decisions/performances.

BDL, how can you judge a rebuild (tbd if it is actually that) in only one season? Like others pointed out, they already got a #7 pick last year (coupled with their own late 1st rounder) and now have a chance to get a couple of more #1s/prospects and even more assets if they trade guys like Mac/Zuc and then if they stay at pace they will be picking in the top 10 again, along with whatever other 1st/2nd round picks they get. Gorton made some missteps already with the Smith signing and likely the Shatty signing, but even partial rebuilds take a couple of seasons. What did you realistically expect for Gorton to have already accomplished by now?
Pointless to fire AV now. Small bonus check, maybe, for his willingness to keep trying to win with this dreck, keep doing bland pressers to cover up the tank.
i meant trading our 1st last yr not trading for a 1st
Well you’re gonna get “inconsistent goaltending” when your team plays defense like my 11 year old granddaughter’s team (didn’t even use my teenage grandsons’ team there)…
I hope that we will continue sliding even lower in the standings to at least get close to sure thing player because when Sather recently announced that he is coming back, and after seeing him at the presser with Gorton, I kinda lost trust in the rebuild.
Stucco is a funny word.
Got some good looks is a funny phrase.
Watching AV mismanage this roster this year and losing players on the bench last playoffs is not funny.
He needs to go. ASAP.
Stucco is a funny word…
only az and buff are uncatchable in downward spiral. and maybe vanc.
i think we can catch the others.
Alex the Yotes and Antti are hot!
I wish we had 40,000 Hedman
If AV chews his gum in a forest and no one is around to hear him, does he make a sound?
unlike Hayes I like Traffic.
Does Stepan scream at Aanti in the Desert? WE GOT THIS… CALM DOWN.
This team is so soft they should wear Rainbow 3rd Alternative Jersey’s…we need a gender reassignment I hope we transition well to a man’s team…
Sittoo-“Alex the Yotes and Antti are hot!”
Yeah, but it’s a dry heat.
I hope The Rangers have LifeLock…their identity as a NHL team was lifted a while ago…
Will have to be a complete free fall to get into top 3 but I think this group is capable
Rangers doing a beautiful tribute to Tom Petty these last few weeks…
Breakdown
Free Falling
Learning to Tank
Bozak was the center we were all pining for start of season …been so so at best with Leafs ..demoted to 4th line a few times and now getting reduced minutes…probably better we did not get him in hindsight
i think chi, edm, det, fla definitely beat us out. plus all teams in our division.
the on the fence teams are ott, mtl and vanc. i think the 1st 2 can beat us out.
so we’d be at 4
It is such a shame that 3 goalies’ jersey numbers will hang from the Garden rafters with only one of them having their name on the cup.
Florida Detroit and Chicago will overtake us no problem. After that, we have 7 points on Vancouver. I have no doubt we can lose a ton, but at a high enough rate for Vancouver to make up 8 points? I don’t see Montreal or Ottawa getting better than they have been.
I think 7 is the most likely.
need to build it back up at Center before anything else… 1st and Foremost
Right Now…
ZBAD = Floater
Hayes = Coaster
DD = Little Engine That Couldn’t
Miller = Dumb and Dumber
Holland = Dutch Boy Paint Color Vanilla
not this bunch of pus*%@#
6 is highest we can get in terms of “better record”
edm with mcdavid will definitely pass us.
i think at least one of ott or mtl will pass us too so that’s 5th.
i can hope that the other of ott/mtl passes us as well so 4th.
Maybe I’m underestimating the teams well below us, Alex. I’m certainly not overestimating our guys, that’s for sure.
Dave,
I’m not judging the entire rebuild, I’m judging this seasons portion of the rebuild. And that will take place after the deadline. If they come out of the deadline with Andersson, Chyti, Tage Thompson, Cal Foote, and first and a second rounder, I will say job well done. This crappy season will have been worth it. But if they get a couple of middling prospects, it will have been a waste.
I HAVE to believe that by this time a week from tomorrow, they’ll have some kind of haul, BDL
Obviously no one, Coach, fans or Press, gives a flying fart about Donuts and Staal. Wouldn’t be surprised.if they’re both fine physically, but in a mental health facility.
Lindy Ruff sure made a great decision coming here for chump change. Unless AV is torpedoed soon, Ruff may never coach again.
(not that I want him)
Our guests have departed just finished the replay another game in the loss column even buttman points can’t help us. This team reminds me of a Gary More song “Goin Down.” We wait out the rebuild together Boneheads! Go Rangers!
Ruff is dogging it
AV = DCW
Throw Ruff a bone, he’s been neutered by AV.
Let Ruff stray if he wants
AV has Ruff on a tight leash
Ruff’s bark is bigger than his bite
Is Cody McLeod the only one left in the NHL. without a visor? That’s a tough-guy move for sure but gives his opponents a clear edge.
Ruff’s been sniffing around looking for his spot
Ruff has a leg up on Arniel to replace AV
This is a Ruff crowd
So IF we picked 4th…who would still be there and who would we want?
I’d think zadina or tkachuk would be there at 4 and I’d pick either.
I’m here all week! Woof woof.
i still would go defense in this draft. At 4, you could get Boqvist or Hughes. Personally I see Tkachuk going as high as 3
I was in the car listening during the third period and Dave and Don LaGreca were discussing the injured Rangers. After talking about Kreider, Staal, et al he says that McD has been persona non grata. Not seen or heard from around the team since he was held out 6 games ago. Interesting. Carp said one year ago that he would be an ex-Ranger around the deadline. Right now, he is looking pretty good on that prediction.
Funny stuff
‘persona non grata’ means ‘not welcome’ if I’m not mistaken. Surely he’s welcome, but there is some strange chit going on. Can’t figure it out.
Ruff won’t be around fur long.
Prediction: Donuts, healthy and unburdened with the Captaincy, will light it on fire elsewhere. I wish him well, but I think he’s been misused and abused by this organization.
Interesting regarding mcdonagh. It sensed it from him for well-over a year. Being the captain of this sinking ship has drained the kid.
I want the best for him. He’s given everything he had and he signed a deal that allowed the rangers an extra player or two every year year that they were going for it. All these older guys gave their hearts and souls to the rangers. It’s natural to get more comfortable as you get older and are set up for life. But these guys really gave their all for the team for a long time
I am all for a complete tear down and rebuild, but like others, I am extremely concerned if Sather has anything to do with it. I also don’t have a lot of faith in Rangers scouting staff. I am not convinced that there off the board picks last year will actually pan out. Too often they go off the board and get nothing for it in the long run. Time will tell and I will take a wait and see attitude. I hope that the Rangers were right in taking Anderson and Chytil and hit it out of the park this year and next, like Gorton did in Boston.
JR: “Av had Ruff fixed. It’s a testicle to his leadership.”
That’s something else about Mac being persona non grata. He’s a popular guy. This chaos has to be taking a toll on these players – Hank looked especially despondent postgame (even for him) when admitting his state of mind was “terrible.” He’s definitely the most dramatic/emotive of the guys, but all the vets have to be feeling it. Although I agree the rebuild was necessary I don’t like the way they’ve handled it.
Yah, Hopefully La Greca just doesn’t know what Persona non grata actually means. If that’s true…it’s certainly out of left field. And a shame.
I think they truly meant absent. There was no indication of his not being welcome. They speculated that there was something going on with doctors. FWIW, I think he has been injured for quite awhile now. If he has not been around the team at all, it is odd for sure.
Broken hand?
Broken spirit
Broken spirit. Hurt by the reality
The rangers definitely aren’t asking him to stay away.
This is when a person needs to realize that if things don’t work out or there’s failure, or change, it doesn’t mean your not capable or worthy. There’s only so much one person can do. It’s human nature to dwell or think on things to an extent, after that though your not doing anything but wasting energy. Worrying, self-criticizing, criticizing in general, feeling anxious, it doesn’t fix anything, it won’t lead to the solution. Sometimes you just need to lick your wicks before you get back in the saddle. But don’t paralyze yourself in the process and then never feel comfortable again getting back on the horse.
But never let your internal worth or belief in yourself waver. As soon as you catch yourself thinking that way, THOUGHT STOP. Consciously stop yourself and choose a more positive thought stream.
If it’s injury why not sit him sooner. Thought he could play through it, bs. Could be personal issue, whatever it is get him healthy and back on the ice here or elsewhere.
What happened to the troll. Where did kovy’s troll go?
It’s a broken hand, someone served up the info on another website. He was trying to play through it like a captain and leader would, and the rangers probably sat him once they made the rebuild call
Teams are aware of the injury (although officially undisclosed) and it’s not gonna impact the postseason.
Someone else had brought it up, but AV has seemed the sort of coach that expects you to “play through it”. Not entirely sure if that’s true, but whoever brought it up cited some examples.
If there were a lingering injury, McDonagh should have been rested. I’m sure he was the one insisting on playing through it, but the coach and training staff need to do what’s right.
If he has a serious issue, I can’t imagine teams would be sniffing around him right now. And if teams were interested and we wanted to move him, I can’t see why they would send him home 2 weeks before the deadline – not the best move to maximize value.
All in all – nothing adds up
Or what jpp said
Only one person really knows what’s going on with McD…and his name is Carp! 😉
Pete deboar. Man that dude sticks out in my mind more as the reason we lost to the devs in 2012 than anyone including Henrique.
That guy coached the devils to a finals appearance and cost the rangers one
Pete, I’m just good at gathering facts. My opinions are half gut feeling and half presumed psychic ability. Hehe I kid, kinda
Dave
I like boqvist but the rangers needs elite level forwards and centres.
I’m guessing the draft goes Dahlin, svechnikov, then….either tkachuk or zadina. If the rangers are at 4 I take which ever guy doesn’t go at 3.
Other than dahlin, tkachuk would be my choice regardless.
I think both Edmonton and the rangers missed an opportunity a couple years ago to make a trade that would see the current versions of both teams much further along.
Before hall was traded.
I was pitching a huge trade. Draisaitl and the 4th overall for mcdonagh/step or mcdonagh/Kreider.
If the oilers make that mcdonagh/stepan trade. they never have to trade hall and they have their winger for mcdavid. If they made the Kreider/mcdonagh, the oilers would have been trading hall from a position of strength as opposed to overpaying for need.
But teams dont have the gonads to make deals like that. Poile, Rutherford are both guys who took chances on big trades and look where it got them. No one wanted kessel as a main guy but rutherford brought him into the penguins locker room and he put them over the top. They are now going for a 3peat. Poile has traded for a #1 center, RD, and top line winger. All under 27. Crazy how he pulled off all 3.
Dan T : Rangers will go 16-4 this post season if they can get in. I’m convinced they’ll win out. Once in, they’ll win.
You posted that just as Hall scores the OT winner for NJ. Ugh
Rangers over Caps rd 1 in 5
Rangers over Pens rd 2 in 5
Rangers over TB ECF in 5
Rangers over Vegas in 5 SCF
Believe and it will happen. That, and I’m really really really high right now.

good article
ends w this part
It’s wearing on everyone. The Rangers seem helpless, and with 19 games remaining are likely only midway through an epic tailspin that will bring clarity to the race in which the Blueshirts are participating.
And that is the race to improve their odds in the Entry Draft lottery. Seventh from the bottom of the league with .983 points earned per game, the Rangers would have a 6.7 percent chance at hitting the Rasmus Dahlin first-overall jackpot and a 20.9 percent chance of moving into the top three if they go no higher. Ottawa, sixth from the bottom and in range at .895 points-per, would have a 7.6 percent shot at Dahlin and a 23.4 percent shot at a top three.
Those are numbers that are pertinent for the Rangers. If the deadline can’t come quickly enough, neither can the draft.
it’s 22 games remaining though
19 after deadline
Being serious for a moment. If I’m gorton, I’m bringing in another goalie tomorrow, if the kids aren’t gojng to play, you need another goalie tomorrow and you need to give him a start or two off the bat.
Situations dictate response. The flyers had to play this kid today. If bc of the state of things, injuries/illness to the backups, you have no choice but to keep throwing hank out there, you need a bring in a goalie and give him a start or two. That’s the storyline, so be it.
It’s not right to hank. It’s not right to the players who feel they are letting hank and the time down.
This is not a good team mix, there are injuries out the wazoo. It isn’t what it is. It’s everybody’s fault, yet it doesn’t mean they suck. It’s just not the right mix and the way things have unfolded this year has made it worse and more visible.
BOOOOOOOOOM!!

Jordan Schmaltz (righty D apparently NHL ready) would be a good guy to pry from St louis for nash as well. Does Thompson project to be a #1 or just another 2nd or 3rd line center?
Carp’s Review is up!
If we trade for Schmaltz, we better get Kasha from Anaheim and Chabot from Ottawa.
Went to the Pack game today and the result today on the farm was not much better than “the big club.” Wish I had better news.
Pack lost 4-0 to Bridgeport and were out shot 41-22. Observations with the caveat that it was only one game and they played last night and traveled for a day game today.
Lias and Filip certainly don’t look out of place for two of the youngest players in the league. Chytil is the flashier player and had a couple of good scoring chances. He also spent time battling along the boards and behind the goal line. Doesn’t seem like a fancy pants player. Anderssen was not as noticeable (though the score sheet game him 3 SOGs) and seemed to have a tough day on face-offs. Not sure these two guys are the answer to the No. 1 center issue.
Brendan Smith had an awful day. He was at least -3. On the first goal he allowed a player top split him and the other D on a 1 on 2. On the second goal he was left to cover two guys in front and one of them found the puck before him and slide it behind Halverson. On the fourth goal he was back on a 2 on 1 and allowed the pass across and the shot went through Halverson as he moved from right to left. Don’t think he was on for the third goal. He seemed to trying to force offense rather than playing solid D and making a good first pass. Hope the marriage works out better for him than the contract is working out for the Rangers.
First period was close checking. Not many chances. Second period was Ranger hockey. The Pack was out shot 17-8 and the play was in their end most of the time. They gave up 2, but, Halverson was very good and kept them in it. Third period they made a push, but, Tigers scored on an odd man rush- it happens when you press it- and they threw in the towel after that.
Halverson was actually pretty solid and can really handle the puck. He cleared it all the way down once during the PK and another time almost hit a guy at the blue line with a home run pass. None of the goals were softees and he made a lot of good saves in the second.
Vinny did not look as energetic as he did in NY. Maybe he took the demotion hard.
Ryan Graves didn’t look like a pylon and had some good first passes.
The big Russian kid Zborovskiy(?) looked like the game was a little fast for him at times.
I didn’t notice the other D- good for them.
Ho-Sang looks lost. He would fit right in on the Rangers.
So the D performs the same in AHL or NHL. Smitty better start working with a personal trainer now.
With a name like Schmaltz, you gotta be good.
