NHL All Star Game 2018. TV-NBC
Just in case someone wants to watch it. If you’re interested – rosters, format, and the start times could be found here. Looks like Hank will get into action at 4:30 PM.
I’m going to watch 36 year old Roger Federer getting his 20th major title instead. Holy shashlik ( Russian shihkebab )!
Have fun!

Well done, ilb. Nice touch with the shishkebab thing.
also, game is on Westwood One radio with Kenny and Joe. If you can find it

is this thing busted?
busted, disgusted, and can’t be trusted
I’m blacked out of the All-Star game. What a frickin HAV this league is!!
Fire Bettman, trade everyone!
No. There are only about 50 things to do that are more interesting than this dopey all star farce. After Gary Bettman once again defended their not going to the Olympics in favor of this waste of time, I am just not interested. I wish Henrick and his family were spending their weekend in the Bahamas relaxing rather than at this waste of time. George Parros felt it necessary to defend his suspension of Cogliano (he shouldn’t have) and he said nothing about letting the multiple offenders Marchand and Dustin Brown off easy (which he should have).
Minny might be an agreeable lading spot for Donuts. Who can we pry from them?
There are hardly any stars on these “All Star” teams.
*landing spot
I love it that Crapsby gets booed everywhere he goes outside of pissburgh…he is so disliked not because of his success but because of his consistent whining and preferential treatment…
and Marchand is such a germ..what a punk
He thinks he’s Ricardo Montalban with that sleazy mustache.
Tuning in! Beats helping my daughter move in to her new apartment…
I wonder if Nash cried as much as Crosby if he’d get a few more calls his way.
es muy macho? Re-Car-Do Montalban or Yack Lord?
Rich Corinthian Leather
Kinda hoping Boyle wins the MVP. But wouldn’t be upset if Hank does…
That is one of the worst anthems I heard in a long time.
Book ’em Dano.
can’t stand artists putting their own stamp on our anthem just sing the song….
Pathetic! Who’s in charge?
“artists”. – LMAO
McKinnon wowsa
I would rather have listened to Bob Ross sign it
or sing it
more skating and energy at a Disney on Ice matinee
although this is still light years ahead of any NBA basketball or NFL football game
Drunken pirate manning the camera…
OEL is some player..I also like ELO, ELP, BTO, CSN, CTA…
foiled….Doc is reading DC comics
wish Hank was in the Bahamas also this is dumb these goalies are at risk for a pulled groin or worse…
I hope this is Gorton at the deadline….
IIII’mmm the Wiz. I’m the Wiz.
James Neal. Rat.

Vinnie Pastore did some commercials for The Wiz just before everyone went to jail.
Watch Boyler get the MVP no matter what happens.
Isn’t Hellybuck (sp?) the guy Torts 86’d after the Rangers strafed him?
that’s guaranteed if Metro gets to title game, coos.
Love Neal.
Hope Marchand wins mvp!
Metro-Atlantic next.
I think that’s the conference in which Iona plays.
Metro-Atlantic on North Ave
Iona Players got a lot of beers and shots on North Avenue disguised as food the year they beat the eventual National Champs at the Garden by 17.
last night I heard JR say the targets were “LSD lights that light up by random…” he is a piece of work
(not flu shots)
I was there, coos. At MSG, not at Beechmont. Though I spent most of my brief college career there.
Old owner of the Beechmont used to holler at about 3 or 3:30 AM: “You don’t have to go home, kids, but you can’t stay here.”
Boyler looks a lot better with the haircut.
If the Rangers were a cell phone….this is the model they would be….
Haha.
Brian Boyle story>John Scott story
Carp – Loved the Metro-Atkantic/Iona reference. Also, it wasn’t Hellebuyck that Torts 86’d because Hellebuyck was drafted by Winnipeg.
and 1 more..i swear this is how Slats spent his time at every NHL draft
Heard that Hellebuyck put in a heliport on the roof of his building in Hell’s Kitchen.
Hank stops Matthews remember that Feb 1
if he has a son will he call him Hellboy?
Hank flexing his right leg…this is dopey
Thanks, Anthony. It was another goalie with a weird spelling?
Hank is used to that D support
Gee, Hank getting about as much on that goal as he gets from his regular defense.
Curtis McElhinney?
Hank crawling around the ice like Ricky Bobby on imaginary fire…we’ve seen that before ….
Carp – Was it Joonas Korpisalo?
Well so far this is eerily reminiscent of a Rangers game. Turnovers in front of the net on every shift!
Curtis my man !!! The Wolfman
Joonis Who???

LMAO Carp that looks like Spirit Airlines Coach

KooKooKutcherov IS the Walrus
I had a case of Plev.ritis once…knocked me right on my azz
If these guys who just ooze skill with every stride went full tilt for twenty minutes you couldn’t tear me away but the half hearted apologetic effort, though better in the 3 on 3, still blows.
I hope Holtby gets lit up so that Hank is done for the day.
Who would you rather have as a son? Shampoo Boy . . . or the Rat?!
I agree Anthony
No Rat No Thanks
Sedubbb hit the nail on the head. I don’t expect them to play like it the seventh game of the Stanley Cup Final, but I don’t need to see a goalie do a spin-o-rama as he is getting ready for a breakaway.
Nice showing by Hank. Would love to have an Ovechkin or Crosby or Giroux or, well hell, any one of these goal scorers on the Rangers… BUY BUY BUY!
That Stall Family is some hockey family Joe…
You’re right Sam.. you always are…
NHL proving to be a joke by letting Marchand play today. I might have a different opinion if he was a first-time offender, but The Nose is a multiple repeat offender.
Looked like Marchand tried to elbow and concuss Willie O’Ree…
hoping for a Marchand/Crosby collision at center ice necessitating a flat bed tow truck
I wonder if Ovie would’ve busted it back on defense if Hank was in goal?
good point….Eiffel Tower to The Walrus
slowest skater on the ice..Beetle Bailey from the Dion and the Belmonts
The Astronauts Favorite Drink with the go ahead goal
Doc confusing Price for Hank. Different team, different uniform, different number…🙄😜
Marchand should be on Double Secret Probation..that little shet
The assist goes to the Suspension Kid
Different shampoo. Different Hair.
Rangers Twitter is taking this all star game seriously.
That azz clown Milbury just said hockey is never better when it is played the proper way..no jerk defense and hits are when hockey is played proper
I was going to write the same thing about Milbury – especially with the second defender out for a Sunday skate (unlike Ovie who busted it for the first time in tears defensively).
So there was a challenge for offside in the all star game? Nothing needs to be said. Wow.
There will be Women’s Curling and Women’s Figure Skating at the olympics, right? Those will definitely be more enjoyable to watch than this NHL joke on ice.
Holtby should have thrown his mask off.
It was a “test” for the regular season. 🙂
Beetle Bailey going behind the net to chase w 2 in front alone…lmao
Holtby is clearly not used to playing with no defense in front of him…
This is Xbox cra p
Isn’t he suspended? 🙂
Marchand playing The Longest Yard role here
Honestly I think they made the challenge so Wes McCauley could do one of his epic calls. Pretty funny.
Well, Holtby sure didn’t want to play another 10 minutes, eh!?!
Filthy
RefDrama
glad Hank is done..he doesn’t need the dough anyway he gets free shampoo back at the hotel AND he can take the rest home (under 3 ounces for TSA)
or does he use Rula Lenske’s preferred VO5?
Hank can sneak more shampoo home by putting in Marchand’s nose.
The Billy Ocean Final
Marchands nose can hide shampoo, conditioner, a blow dryer, curlers, velvet scrunchies, combs, brushes, scissors,a jar of that NASA blue liquid stuff and a barber poll
Kucherov, drafted 58th overall. So, yes, second-round picks can be good. …
Kucherov embarrassing Holtby for his Hattie. Classic. Glad it wasn’t Hank…
Rangers would have picked a 4’10” finesse back checker from Switzerland with a 58th
Kutcherov reminds me of an angry young Tom Jones
Hank was Head & Shoulders above Holtby.
JR is starting to like Swartezenegger’s love child that he had with that maid
Kathryn Tappen looks like….well she just looks real fine…
Very symmetrical, I must say.
as ridiculous as the effort is I would watch 10 of these in place of 1 National Felon League Ungrateful Unpatriotic Spoiled Millionaire Club game
I’d rather shave my head with a cheese grater than watch NFL All Star game.
as Billy Crystal and Christopher Guess used to say ” ooh I hate when that happens Willie…”
I cannot stand JR and KJ glorifying Marchands skills he is a MUTT a cheap skate artist and a repeat offender stop making him out to be a misunderstood Gretzky
Marchand is awesome!
skilled 4 sure but just can’t stand his baggage and it’s a good thing air is free or he’d be broke…
Pacific have some young guys who want their $90,000…
That Vancouver Brock Boesser kid is some sniper
Rangers sure could use a couple of Boesser type players in their top six!
Time to end all star games just name all stars at seasons end.
Of season…..Marchand is an ass…you think he would just play hocky considering his situation…he doesn’t care ….expect next suspnsion in playoffs
Can’t wait for the Cody McLeod era to start on Thursday.
I don’t think AV will put McLeod out for the opening faceoff like Torts sent out the Bickel against the Devils.
Anyone else out there?
ORF with The much harder yet under appreciated delayed Hattie.
My comment served to ruin any chance at the near impossible delayed Pageau
Best JR comment of all time was his qualification of the Kucherov fake shot goal. He said that was probably the best move ever in all of sports. Smh
John Gilmore won fastest skater at the AHL All-star game. Graves won hardest shot a couple years ago. Maybe after they move Holden and McDonough (?) those two get a shot?
Good Grief! Marchand smiling under his nose is just too much to see without retching.
Stu Bickel is the Rangers career face off % leader.
the All-Star game isn’t great hockey, but it was the best thing on TV today. Character guys.
As much as I don’t like Marchand for his antics and goals against the Rangers, I was entertained by him today. One of the few who showed any personality during a showcase where that is needed.
Good morning, boneheads!
Do we need a new post?
WARNING! VERY UNPOPULAR OPINION!
I enjoyed the NHL All Star weekend. Loved the up close coverage NHL Network provided all weekend. The skills competition was fun and the game itself showcased great individual talent and we got to see all the stars in one day. I think the NHL has finally found the right formula for All Star Weekend.
is thing on?
3cp,
I watched some of the games for the first time in years. I didn’t hate it.
Didn’t see a second of it. Now you’re making me regret it.
By the way, today would’ve been the 9th anniversary of Carp taking over the blog. Jackwagons.
Almost posted this last night
I actually enjoyed the skills competition. I wish there were a way for the NHL to expand it. Add more events and participants somehow. Boyle winning the shooting competition would have been awesome but Boeser had to ruin that!
Unfortunately, the “game”/tournament on day 2 was pretty much unwatchable. I actually enjoyed this format in previous years but I think it has finally run its course. Boring, passionless hockey, and Hank only played half of the game so there is nobody to really root for.
Not sure how they can fix the All Star Game. The sad thing is they deprived us of Olympic hockey this time around. Would have been much preferable to what we got this past weekend.
Boston reportedly looking for 2nd line winger…anyone on Boston we realistically can get that might be a good pick up? Spooner?
How to watch the all-star game? Bin it. Send the players to the Olympics, where players play for their country and not a paycheck, then you’ll see some passion. Although the combined Korea team will be interesting when they figure out what position Kim Jong Un is playing
I turned it off after the Metro was eliminated. Though I don’t love the 3 on 3 OT deciding regular season games, they are exciting. I thought yesterday,(what I saw), was bland. I’ll miss the Olympics as well, but I completely get why the NHL bailed. Though the Rangers didn’t lose a lot of players to injury, I think it tired guys out when they were preparing for the later stages of the season and the playoffs,(particularly Hank).
Clubs paying big money to have their team MVPs leave for 10 days to play a high intensity tourney (Olympics) that has no bearing on their season; definitely see the owners point.
.
Would rather have the Olympics take on the flavor of the World Juniors where one can view the up and comers playing for their country.
You’re not excited to see Matt Gilroy represent USA hockey?
I’m “no” on the nhlers in the Olympics.
I’d be ok if the Olympic rosters were like the world juniors
I’m also not a fan of the 5 day break and the all star break both.
Skills competition isn’t bad, but the game blows.
Rather see the all star “festivities” after the season.
Wow! I have been picking on Carp for 9 years now? Time flies! 🙂
Just spitballing here: I think part of the problem of the 3 on 3 tournaments is they are too long at 20 minutes a piece. They would actually be more enjoyable if they were 5 minutes each, like the overtimes.
If they played 5 minute games they could actually play a round robin tournament, which might be more exciting. Since the games are shorter there will be more urgency in each one.
Not saying it would be great but I think it would be more fun than what we got.
Do team captains, a live draft, and a round robin tournament with 5 minute games a winner crowned at the end and I think you have a good show.
I would rather root for Team Lundqvist, Team Subban, Team McDavid, etc than the Metro, ESPECIALLY because i hate most of the teams and players in the Metro.
The NHL is free to license my ideas for a reasonable sum.
Agree too long; make it a more shorter games, more teams possibly; faster pace. turned it on for 30 seconds and quickly left watching players glide around the ice. Boring. I can watch Zucc do that during NYR games. I keed, I keed…
four weeks to deadline
Four weeks for our trade bait and trade targets to bust their kneecaps!
i think our deals will be done a week or two before the deadline.
could be interesting Ratelle night day before the deadline if we wait until last minute, or even if we have a more ahl slanted roster if deals already made.
no home games after March. So, in likely event we miss playoffs, no msg hockey in April. I’m guessing in last 50 years that only happened in the full lockout season.
don’t see how any teams could take on contract ….
https://elitesportsny.com/2018/01/29/rangers-news-henrik-lundqvist-question-return-new-york/
I don’t think that’s what Henrik meant.
probably not but its a slow day
The only scenario in which I can see Hank leaving would be if a contender lost their goaltender to a freak career-ending injury. Even then – its tough to imagine that sort of trade.
If the rangers trade mcdonut, I’m not expecting the rangers to “win” the trade. I don’t think they will get back a player as good as mcdonut, therefore they won’t get the best player ergo they won’t be on the winning side of the deal.
McD will be the best player in that deal so NYR loses that deal unless the return players perform way above their projections.
.
Ironically, NYR needs a top pair Dman so now the goal is to trade their only top pair Dman. I know, contract ends, window closes, etc etc.
The Rangers don’t think they are winning this year or next with McD on the roster, and they don’t think they are re-signing him. It’s bad asset management not to get something back for him, “winning” the deal or not.
If McDonagh de-Kleins after next season, do they win the deal then?
If the Rangers win the Cup in two years with inferior assets they got back from the McD deal still on the roster, do they win the deal then?
Too many variables to know anything this year!
Sell!, Sell!!, Sell!!!
We definitely do have to mentally prepare ourselves that the return isn’t going to be what we think it is. Will we get at least an R1 + a good youngin? Sure, I think that’s bottom line. But if we’re expecting Nylander, Marner or Puljujarvi,
(and honestly I don’t think one of those guys is SO outlandish), we have to face the fact that we might get Kasperi Kapanen or Jujhar Khaira. There might be a prospect or two out there that Gordie Clark has the biggest, gooeyest crush on, and it’s nobody we’d ever think of in 1000 years.
Teams rarely win, at least right away, on trades like this, where you’re the one giving up the centerpiece. The trade that brought McDonagh to us was such an NHL rarity, and was an absolute blip-in-the-Matrix for the Rangers.
If you don’t get the deal you are looking for with McD, you keep him. There’s always the draft, and the deadline next year. Nash and Grabner, on the other hand, need to be moved.
Gorton has this, I am confident!
think you guys may be underselling return on McDongough. Shattenkirk was the prize defenseman last year and was a pending FA and got a 1st rounder, 2nd rounder and roster player. Not sure how we would not get more since McD much better and with a reasonable contract for another season/2 playoff runs
I agree, BobbyO. Underselling McDonagh is right. I have a post sitting in my draft folder for tomorrow morning with what I think they should get for McDonagh. And why, and why not, it may work. And i believe I mentioned before, if they can’t get what they want for him, they should try and keep him.
I am impressed by everyone’s general management here. Not a wise crack–any time I try it, I get bogged down in the details almost instantly. LGR while they’re still here!
look forward to that post ilb…agree deal has to be right
It’s going to be very amusing IF the rangers trade mcdonut, what and possibly who they actually get for him.
Might be a lot of crow eaten on the blog.
If ilb’s post is anything like his last couple, it will be as follows…
Mcdonut might be traded for a lot, or maybe not. Rangers might keep him.
HAV a great day!
😉
I have him going to Minny for 1 top center prospect, 1 young NHL Dman and a top 6 forward; not sure that is underselling; would be over the moon with that return.
It all depends on how NHL-ready the youngins we get are. Like with Toronto – guys like Nylander and Marner are bonafide NHLers (and potential stars). A guy like Kapanen can probably step in, but he’s no sure thing. But then you have a guy like Liljegren, their pick this year (and a guy a lot on this blog LOVED), who is a potential 1st pairing D and would be a coup to get, BUT he’s probably 3-4 years away.
So if we’re “Rebuilding on the fly” or keeping the window open, the younger prospects are probably not going to interest Gorton.
If the organization is set on skjeL as their top lefty d man, a top righty d man should be acquired sooner than later.
Put me in the “likes lindgren” camp. He would be a good asset get.
i want the best prospect(s) regardless of whether they are a year or two further away than a more ready lesser prospect.
patience for me is the way to go.
Our two best defenseman haven’t been great, and the 3rd best guy is Kampfer. Our best (and clearly most consistent) forward is Nash, and he’s hated (for whatever reason) by 75% of the fan base. The “good” forwards we have are incredibly inconsistent, and often lack the “desire” needed on a nightly basis….and often the skills they DO have are offset by the defense’s inability to GET the puck, and then move it out quickly. Oh – and we have about THREE AHL players on the roster out of necessity (and not because they’ve “earned” a spot on the roster). That’s our “talent”…
Sigh…. garage sale is coming!
Did I miss carp’s big question last week?
This guy rules.
https://twitter.com/BizNasty2point0/status/957700891498434561
I think we’re still waiting, Wick.
Can the Rangers get this Bissonette? He can do the coaches’ postgames forever as far as I’m concerned.
ALERT to all hockey players everywhere:
Unless you are as good or better than #10, #27, #40 or #61, we don’t need you. As for our over positions, we’re overloaded with mediocrity from Hartford to MSG. Ain’t in need of more at this time. Thank you for your participation.
* other positions
So sad about Jagr 🙁
IMMEDIATE DISPOSAL…EVEN THE BUILDING IS FOR SALE !!!!
we need a top 6 forward back for Nash…preferably one with a nickname…hopefully it’s a T-Bone and not a Koko
Gammie, Gammie, Gammie.

@JeffMarek
With Jagr out there’s only one person from the 1990 draft still on the ice in the NHL – Wes McCauley (drafted by Detroit in the 8th round).
CCCP, many fans get on Nash because he is paid to be a 30-40 goal scorer and instead for the past couple seasons and this season he has just been a very solid two-way player. Those kind of players are extremely value, but they don’t get paid nearly that much.
—
ILB, know we have gone over this before, but trading Mac at next year’s deadline will almost certainly give you the least return, so if they aren’t going to resign him, that would be the worst time to trade him.
—
Bobby, I don’t think anyone is undervaluing Mac or the return he will bring, it’s more just the nature of the assets coming back. If he is traded this year it is harder to get a playoff bound team to agree to subtract a player from their top 6 or top 4 defensive pairs even for a good player like Mac. The last time I can recall that happening (though please feel free to correct me) was when the Rangers traded Cally for St. Louis, but that trade only happened at the deadline because Marty demanded to be moved and Yzerman honored that request.
—
Also, to be clear, Shatty brought back a 1st rounder, a conditional 2nd round pick (which had crazy conditions to it and I don’t think vested since the Caps didn’t resign him or get to the semifinals) and a fringe young NHL forward (who is currently in the AHL and has 4 goals and 4 assists in 39 career games played) and a minor league goalie. So basically the blues settled for a 1st round pick for Shattenkirk, which is about right given he was a rental and the Blues didn’t overly value him and weren’t going to resign him. Now Mac has the extra year and is a far better all around defenseman (though not as good offensively or on the pp), so the return should and must be better!
Everyone who gets Step’s locker goes bald.
Cooscoos
hopefully they won’t give Henrik that locker
Did Carp ask the question yet?
Fack Jugr! He’s played (and coasted) long enough
I think we’re still waiting, Papa.
Pete
How many years ago did Nash sign his contract?
2010 and that proves what exactly? So you think it’s fine that he has only broken the 50 pt mark and 30 goal mark once in his 6 years here when he scored 30 or more goals in 7 of his 9 years in Columbus and put up over 50 points in 8 of his 9 seasons in Columbus.
Injuries derailed him somewhat for sure, but let’s not pretend like he hasn’t been an offensive disappointment (and not even touching on the playoffs)
When Nash is on auto, he’s a Rambler.
We didn’t give him that money. He came here with that contract… is all I’m saying.
Sure he hasn’t live up completely to the expectations but who has coming on Broadway?
As far as his postseason numbers, go look at his stats plz.
Again, he’s been our most consistent, hardworking player each and every year. I respect that.
First.
He has had one ok playoffs here and even then still only scored 5 goals in 19 games (couple of those were in the Tampa blowout games I believe and he only had 3 goals in 25 games the year we went to the finals).
—-
Don’t question his work ethic and not saying it wasn’t the right trade to make at the time, but he just sadly hasn’t lived up to expectations offensively.
So we are still waiting for Carp’s question, ilb’s new post and what else??
Sorry, busy morning..
NEW POST
