Rangers 3, Devils 6

Published by

The Rangers put about half the effort as the Devils into the game last night and that is reflected in the line score, half as many goals, one goal a period, and the total shots on goal 39-18. In fact, the Devils had as many missed shots as the Rangers had total shots and at one point early in the second period, the Rangers had scored two goals on a total of three official shots on goal.

And yet…they were still in the game, down a goal, until 13:05 of the third when thou who shalt not be named anymore put the Devils up by two. Guess this is what you get when two bottom third teams play each other late in the season.

For the Rangers, Gavrikov (14) continues his unexpected goal scoring ways, putting them up 1-0 at 15:20 of the first period, assisted by Lafreniere (26). The Rangers would give it all back and then some before the end of the period, to Hischier (24) at 16:14 and Gritsyuk (13) at 19:16. 2-1 NJD after one.

Zibanejad (28) who has been hot since the turn of the year tied the game at just 00:19 of the second, a typical Mika shot from the circle (though moving). Perreault (12) gets the only assist. Brown (13) would put the Devils back up a goal at 11:36 on the PP and that would be it for period two, NJD 3 NYR 2.

Meir (19) extended the NJD lead at 06:29 of the third but the nephew-in-law, Sheary (3), would cut it to just one goal at 09:41, assisted by Robertson (10) and Miller (25). This was Miller’s first point since 2 March and third since 28 Feb. The excitement lasted less than four minutes as TWSNBNA (18) put NJD back up by two and Bratt (16) would double the Rangers up at 16:22. Final score: NJD 6 NYR 3

Game summary below:

The Rangers will have a chance to redeem themselves right away tonight when they hop on a quick flight to Columbus to take on the Blue Jackets at 19:00 EDT.

Wish we saw this Mika the last 2 seasons

Bottom 6 had a rough night

Poor Quick, why hang him out to slaughter against Derbils?

The Rangers had some terrible puck luck last night at both blue lines. The thing that pissed me off was there lack of ” compete” to the point where Darren Pang was calling them out. Glad to see our Capt back. He really does make a difference. ( Not)

Just think… if Dreary had had a clue and moved Chytil a year or two sooner, we would not be sitting here wondering about the new Albatross contract as the trade for Miller probably would not have happened.

The question now is do you keep him? Try to move him by retaining 3M +/-? Over the summer?

Mika on pace to finish w/ 77pts which would be 3rd best total in his career, though the pace in covid 19/20 was for much more, 110 pts.

here it is… GGMM going into battle with Sully!

What has kept Conor Sheary in #NYR lineup over say, Brett Berard, or other young players Mike Sullivan would want to get a look at?

“Well, we’ve had lots of looks, all these guys. So it’s not like we haven’t had looks. I think what Conor brings is there’s a lot of detail around his game with how he plays, whether it’s without the puck, positionally, where he’s at. He has a good stick. His puck pursuit game, and how he hunts pucks and forces turnovers. I think he’s played well when he was playing with Labs and Tye. He scores last night with JT. He can help on the penalty kill. So there’s a lot of detail around his game, and that’s what I think has been his competitive advantage.”

GGMM even touched the JT Miller 3rd rail:

What has Mike Sullivan seen from #NYR captain J.T. Miller since his return from injury?

“I think he’s trying to build his game. I think he gets better as he starts to build timing and his conditioning improves, and things of that nature. But, you know, JT has missed a fair amount of hockey this year with some of the injuries that he’s had to endure.”

Have they gotten his best this year?

“No, I think there’s another level to his game that we know is there. That, obviously, we’re trying to help him capture. I feel like, when he was building traction and traction and getting close every time, we felt like, ‘Okay, his game is where we want it to be,’ is when he got hurt, and that’s been unfortunate for his sake.”

Follow up question GGMM. Sullivan what exactly does that have to do with the retool?
    Please Enlighten me.

I know it’s irrelevant, but I’m just tired of management BS. BS, acronym for Blue-shirts. Imagine that!

Bobby I think it is very much a coin toss with Miller. 23/24 seems to be the peak/abberation and something order 60 pts may be the best it gets going forward. At 8M cap for four more years, is he worth it? He missed some games last season and more this year and health too has to be a question mark/concern.

What is more troubling to me (and I think others) is not the lower production but the play with and away from the puck. Expected a lot better.

Beezle folks were saying some of same things about Meeka last season and he rebounded. I would trade either as long at they are not retaining if they can get younger center back but probably not happening .

Looked like a groin issue for Laba. Got hurt on the play he drew the penalty. Was hurting on the bench. Told trainer he wanted to try it. Went out for second PP, and skated right off, and went down the tunnel.

Laba got tied up with a Devil and both went down awkwardly. To bad. He has been one of the few bright spots. Hope the tank continues. With Shesterkin playing, this being a road game and the team be called out by there coach yesterday. They will probably screw things up and win tonight.

He’s not going to help the Rangers

I still can’t process the reality of why Drury made that trade. It accomplished absolutely nothing. Loss of a 1st rd pick to the pens, ugh, and a good Italian. I may never eat pizza again. I hate anything from Pittsburgh even more.
