The Rangers host the red hot Buffalo Sabres tonight at the Garden. Is Buffalo really that good? Or have they just been on a lucky run? Tune in to find out!
The Rangers 10 game stats have been bobbing up and down at 0.500 for quite a few weeks now and they come in tonight 4-4-2 with the most recent OT loss to UTA. Buffalo is 9-1-0 – they just beat VAN after ending their long winning streak with a loss to CBJ. Prior to that they sliced up DAL, STL, BOS, OTT, NJD, NYI, PHI and SEA.
Shesterkin will not be in net for some time. The Rangers are one of the least open teams about injuries and all we know is it is a LBI, week to week. Many suspect it is another groin injury – perhaps better than needing surgery for an ACL though it could be something that effects his play even after returning.
So Quick (3-6-2, 2.23 GAA, 0.919 SV%) in net and ready to go full Ron Hextall on anyone coming near him. Luukkonen (8-6-1, 2.61 GAA, 0.903 SV%) should be in net for the Sabres, filling in for the recently injured Lyon. In Ranger news, JT Miller is expected back after injured stint while Laba continues to skate but as a non-contact participant. Lafreniere missed praccy yesterday because of illness but is expected to go tonight. G Martin was called up from Hartford. Speculative line up below. Besides Lyon, Buffalo reports these injuries: Michael Kesselring (lower body), Conor Timmins (broken leg), Jiri Kulich (blood clot), Justin Danforth (lower body)
The refs tonight are Peter MacDougall (492 GP) and Michael Markovic (358 GP). Both give a few more PP chances to the home team. LGR!

Sums up my attitude
They need air tight goaltending to win and they didn’t get it tonight. They needed help to get 2 tonight. The Trochek goal was a gift. Perrault was a little more involved tonight. Maybe he can become a player. Most of these guys will be gone if/when they are good again.
