The Rangers finally got the home win 🐒 off their backs last night at MSG with a resounding 6-3 victory over a really bad Nashville team. 🎉🎆
Zibanejad (5) opened the scoring at 10:39 of the first with a nice breakaway goal. One might ask, “breakaway from who?” considering two skaters from Nashvilled changed right in front of him at center ice but oh well! 1-0 NYR. Wood (4) would tie the game up with the first of his three on the night off the PP at 16:16, putting in a loose puck over a sprawling Shesterkin. 1-1 for a few minutes until Gavrikov (2) from the highish slot put another past Saros. 2-1 NYR after 1.
The second period was an early Black Friday special from Nashville. The Rangers would score three goals on only four shots…the entire period. It started quickly with Lafreniere (3) getting one on the PP off a nice feed from just called up Perreault (1), his first NHL point. Panarin (4) would get his first of two on the night at 07:51 from the point with an assist from Lafreniere (7). Cuylle (4) would also get on the sheets at the 19:50 mark off a 3 on 2, taking the pass from Laba (3) and firing it from near the top of the circle. 5-1 NYR after two, oh my!
The third period was mostly the Matthew Wood (5,6) period as he would complete his hat trick with a PPG at 12:48 and a last gasp goal at 19:15. In between, Panarin (5) would pick up a lose puck behind the goal line and craftily bank it in of one of the Nashville skaters. Final 6-3 NYR.
The return of Trocheck clearly had a positive effect on play and psychology of the team. However, it wasn’t all roses – they did give up three and two of those on the PP so still room for improvement. Hopefully stopping the talk about not winning before Thanksgiving gives them a boost!
