NY Rangers (6-5-2) vs Carolina Hurricanes (7-4-0)

The Rangers attempt to do something not done since Oct 14-22 2024 … win four in a row! It won’t be an easy task as they face the Hurricanes tonight, though Carolina has struggled a bit the past six games and are 6-4-0 of their last ten. The NYR show up 4-4-2 of the same. Here’s hoping there are not many penalties as this is a match up between the #32 (Carolina) and #30 (NYR) power play units. Ugh.
Shesterkin (4-4-2, 2.28 GAA, 0.908 SV%) is expected in net. For Carolina a bit of a question mark as Andersen is a healthy scratch. Expectations are Pyotr Kochetkov will make his season debut after being recalled from the Canes AHL affiliate. On the injury front, the Rangers are expected to place Rempe on the IR. Trocheck is skating but still with the non-contact jersey. Vaakanainen is a scratch (LBI). For Carolina, former NYR K’Andre Miller (LBI) will not be in the house and will miss his sixth game.
The Rangers have recalled Connor Mackey from Hartford but Robertson is expected to play in place of Vaakanainen tonight, though I won’t be surprised to see Mackey get a spin. Also called up is Jaroslav Chmelar, the giant Czech while Brendan Otthmann was given a first class bus ticket back to Hartford.
The refs tonight are the fairly cherry Morgan MacPhee (70 GP) and Jean Herbert (838 GP). Herbert calls it pretty down the middle while limited indications are MacPhee calls a few more on the visitors.
Keys to a Ranger victory: Do not forget to play defense first. And no pond hockey!
