NY Rangers (7-6-2) vs NY Islanders (6-6-2)
• 08 November 2025 19:00 EST
• MSG, NYC
• TV: MSG •
The Rangers return home after a quick trip to Detroit to bring back a win. Now comes the hard part – doing the same at MSG. They’ll try to get this done by beating the Icelanders who have had their share of struggles, equaling the NYR 5-3-2 last 10 but with recent losses to MIN and BOS (S/O) after beating CBJ and WAS.
Shesterkin (4-5-2, 2.26 GAA, 0.915 SV%) will be in net tonight facing Sorokin (3-4-2, 3.33 GAA, 0.879 SV%). Both power plays are struggling, NYR #29, NYI #27. On the PK the Rangers are #9 to the NYI’s pedestrian #17. As to the lines, should be the same as last night though we might see Schneider on the right of Soucy. Trocheck appears to be nearing a return but not quite yet. Mackey was returned to Hartford without seeing any NHL ice time.
The refs tonight are Jon McIsaac (637 GP) and fresh meat Riley Brace (21 GP). McIsaac tends to look the other way a little bit when the home teams are taking liberties, though the Rangers seem intent on getting called for as many hooking penalties as possible.
Keys to a Ranger victory: Do what they did last night?
On this date in history: No Ranger history of note but Bobby Orr did retire this date in 1978.
