• The slowest month of the year for hockey •
All arbitrations are done. All relevant free agents have been signed. Trades have been made. Now is the time of year that the NYR make pizza on the outdoor grill. Or at least one member of the management 😉
More specific posts will hit after Labor day as teams begin gearing up for training camp and the new season. Until then, don’t forget the sun tan lotion!

Contemplating the Corporal’s comments re: Berard labrum injury, 15:14, Fri 7/25 of last thread makes me anxious and to take pause.

wrong on kreider trade. we gave up a 4th in addition to getting a 3rd
and his mock lineup no rempe
Projected lineup
Will Cuylle — J.T. Miller — Mika Zibanejad
Artemi Panarin — Vincent Trocheck — Alexis Lafreniere
Gabe Perreault — Juuso Parssinen — Jonny Brodzinski
Adam Edstrom — Sam Carrick — Taylor Raddysh
Vladislav Gavrikov — Adam Fox
Carson Soucy — Will Borgen
Urho Vaakanainen — Braden Schneider
Igor Shesterkin
Jonathan Quick
^
also no berard or othmann in mock lineup
no mention of morrow
If Schneider is still 3rd pair there is a big problem. Likewise, I like Brodude for his ability to fill in as needed but others are/should be better regular lineup solutions.
Everybody has a lineup.
Wes is a Pitt writer.. deosn’t seem to know much about Rangers or personnel
National writers. Woof!
and the snowflake writers do not like Remper
If Perreault’s center is not named, Miller, Trochek, or Zibanejad, he won’t be in the NHL.
Raddysh instead of Rempe is hardly controversial. Rempe is an intangibles guy, the other has produced more tangible results. His battle should be with Edstrom, who is more of hockey player, but Rempe does keep improving the hockey part of his game. Important camp for both.
Agree Carey, but lets hope its not Zibanajad
Raddysh is a nice pick up Norm but no one worries about him on coming in on the forecheck. Record indicates they play better with him in the lineup
VC now a Swissy
Former #NYR Jimmy Vesey is headed to the National League, the top tier of the Swiss hockey league system
Rempe last season was 5.9 G 9.7 A 15.6 pts on 82 game avg with 8:30 ATOI
not prorated: 14 blocks, 117 hits, 4 TA, 8 GA in 42 games
The Raddish (with about 250 more career games) 7 G 20 A in 80 games w/ 12:22 ATOI 28 blocks, 59 hits, 11 TA, 44 GA
Should expect better than last year from Rempe with increased toi as well as acclimation to ‘the Rempe rules’. Said to continue to work on his edges as well.
Raddysh is not here to play the 4th line. He’s not in competition with Rempe. Raddysh is the 3rd line RW. You can write that down in ink.
Perreault’s center to start the season is most likely going to be Noah Laba. Laba is the only center in Hartford that has the skill to play with Perreault. Perreault will either be on the RW with Laba, or the LW. Terrance is not a skilled player. He a hard working fast skater. Roobroeck can shoot it, but he’s not skilled enough to play with Perreault.
Carey I agree. Edstrom/Carrick/Rempe are almost certainly the 4th line. That said, Raddysh looks on pace to have a career very similar to Vesey.
I’d take that, re Vesey. He became a very valuable depth player, and when he got hurt during the playoffs in 24, everything changed.
As far as Rempe goes, I’d write him in pencil. He’s going to Brodzinski to deal with, and Berard is going to push him. I’d say it’s likely he’s on the roster, but not a regular. Until he shows that he’s not a liability on the ice, taking bad penalties etc, I don’t really need him in my lineup.
If Meeka plays center Perrault and Othman play top 9
From what I saw last year mothman should be more (physically) ready than Perrault. But both will have to earn it. Which is a good thing
Competition to crack a lineup is much better than being handed a position
Also. There will be injuries and (hopefully not but also suspensions )
Also. With the condensed schedule for the Olympics I have a feeling more games will be missed
Need depth
“Everybody has a lineup.”
Thankfully, games aren’t played on paper.

“Anybody can throw money at a Star”
Coos is that from some 1930’s film noire sound track?

Joe Micheletti reveals reasons for retiring as NY Rangers broadcaster
During a short break in the 2022-23 season, Joe Micheletti traveled to Fargo, North Dakota to visit with his older brother, Jim, who was battling incurable pancreatic cancer.
Two other brothers, Tom and Andy, joined him on the trip, where they were greeted by a doctor who suggested they speak with a geneticist.
“She comes in with a big easel board and puts it on the table,” Joe recalled by phone last week. “She said, ‘I want to go through your family medical history.’”
Joe, Tom and Andy − three of nine Micheletti siblings who were raised in the blue-collar town of Hibbing, Minnesota − went down the list of family members who had been diagnosed with cancer over the years, beginning with their deceased mother, Mary, and sister, Jean, and extending to several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The geneticist was taken aback.
“She just kind of sits back in the chair and throws her hands up and says, ‘You guys have so much cancer in your family. It’s way above the norm,’” Joe remembered. “That all opens your eyes.”
Jim died a couple months later, followed by Tom the next year. A third brother, Don, was diagnosed in that hellish year-and-a-half period, leaving him in a paraplegic state.
That harsh perspective brought the idea of retirement to the forefront.
In his own quiet way, the fifth Micheletti child decided the 2024-25 season would be his last in the MSG Networks television booth. He spent the last 19 years as one half of a broadcast duo that New York Rangers fans will remember fondly, but it’s time to trade in the demanding schedule for quality time with family.
“The great Warren Buffett always said, ‘You can’t buy time,’” Micheletti said. “So, what are you doing with your time and how is it affecting your life? I didn’t get sick of the job, because we had a lot of fun. The best thing about it is once you get to the booth, they drop the puck and away we go. You forget about all these other things. It was just a culmination of the time, the external factors that were going on and what we wanted out of our life. We’re excited about the next phase.”
How it started
That decision brings an end to a career that the 70-year-old said began “by accident.”
His focus had always been hockey, whether that was winning a pair of national championships as a defenseman with the University of Minnesota, including being named NCAA tournament MVP in 1976, playing 200 professional games (142 in the WHA and 158 in the NHL), or suiting up for Team USA in the 1982 World Championships.
Shortly after his playing career fizzled, he received a call from the man he credited for planting the broadcasting seed − St. Louis Blues play-by-play announcer Dan Kelly, whom Micheletti referred to as “one of the great voices the game has ever had.”
“He said, ‘I need somebody to do radio with me, and I think you could do it,’” he recalled.
The early years included plenty of “tough love,” as he described it, including one memorable night in New Jersey during Micheletti’s first season covering the Blues.
The two sat down for a postgame beer, with Kelly bluntly remarking, “You embarrassed yourself tonight.”
Micheletti accepted the gruff criticism and tried to use it constructively.
One of the primary lessons was about digging deeper for information, rather than strictly relying on his own experience. “People are going to get sick and tired of you saying, ‘Well, when I played…,” Kelly often reminded his young protégé.
He implored Micheletti to strive for better understanding of the players, coaches and systems he was required to explain to the audience. That taught him the importance of putting in the time to get to know the people he was covering and earn their trust, which he achieved with a grounded, gentlemanly approach.
“At a time when there was so much emphasis on either being controversial or saying something that gets your name out there or brought attention to yourself, I never wanted to be that person,” he said. “I always tried to remind myself of what Dan Kelly told me early on. ‘There’s two teams. Be respectful of both. Be fair and be honest.’ I just thought that if I did that over the course of my career, that I would have respectful and honest relationships with people.”
‘A special partnership’
That humility endeared Micheletti to the hockey community and may explain why he chose to keep his retirement plans so close to the chest.
An accomplished broadcaster in his own right who covered five Winter Olympics and 25 Stanley Cup Finals and was recently nominated for a 2025 NY Emmy in the “Sports Analyst – Game” category, Micheletti preferred to let his longtime partner, Sam Rosen, soak up the adoration in his 40th and final season as the voice of the Rangers.
“I’m more comfortable with that than I am with any attention,” Micheletti said. “And the other thing that I felt very strongly about was that Sam deserved that, and he deserved it on his own. He didn’t deserve any other kind of distraction that might have come with that.”
Micheletti said his decision to defer to Rosen has “gotten too much play,” adding, “There’s so many people that would have done the same thing.” But there’s no doubt the pair, who joined forces full time in 2006, will always be linked.
Micheletti had a front-row seat for Rosen’s farewell tour while basking in the final days of what he deemed “a special partnership.”
“The best part about the job was getting in the booth with Sam and calling the game,” he said. “My greatest enjoyment was just sitting back and watching all of this and how much that meant to him.”
Defining success
Micheletti was “99.9% sure” he was going to retire at the end of the season, which he’d been contemplating for years. About a week after the Rangers’ final game − a 4-0 win over Tampa Bay at Madison Square Garden on April 17 − he informed MSG’s senior coordinating producer Kevin Meininger that it was official.
He left on his own under-the-radar terms, with a prevailing feeling of gratitude.
“It’s been a great run because of all the people that I worked with and the people who helped make me better,” he said while rattling off a list of former colleagues.
Micheletti and his wife, Kathy, have spent the summer saying goodbye to old friends from the New York area while preparing for a move back to the Midwest. They’ve endured too much tragedy, with that grief fueling their desire to live closer to their two children, Adam and Allison, and six grandchildren.
“We’ve been discussing and talking about this for the last number of years,” he said. “We want to see and spend more time with our kids and grandkids.”
In thinking about his post-broadcasting plans, Micheletti’s mind drifted back to a visit with his parents when his kids were quite young.
A conversation with his father, Americo, has stuck with him all these years and will serve as a guiding force in retirement.
“We got talking about success in your life and how you view that,” Micheletti recalled. “My father said, ‘For us, we have nine kids, and when they have time, they call us, and they come to see us. That’s been my great success.’”
“Now our kids are adults and parents, and they call us every day – every single day,” he added. “At least once a day we talk to both of our kids, and we’re so fortunate that way. So, it’s just we want to see them more and we want to see their kids more. We think we can contribute to their lives.”

Following up on Beezle’s comparison of Rempe’s 2025 season to Raddysh’s career:
Career:
Raddysh: 305, 43, 57 14:16
Rempe: 59, 4, 6, 7:41
Prorated to 82:
Raddysh: 11.6, 15.3
Rempe: 5.6, 8.3
Last season prorated to 82:
Raddysh: 7.2, 20.5
Rempe: 5.9, 9.8
Hard to compare a young, veteran full-time player to an even younger part-timer, but with Raddysh you know what you’re going to get, with Rempe not so much. Anyway, nice problem to have, good choices in the bottom 6. I think Rempe will continue on as a match-up player in potential physical games, but he has a chance to impress Sullivan as more than a basher this camp. Obviously you hope all these bottom-six guys impress.
9 siblings? Good Catholics, those Micheletti’s.
With Rempe you know someone is going to get hit and feel it….rare in Rangerland
Great article. Respectful to Joe
Id pay for that article.
Rempe is a game changer and still just scratching the surface.
Hope he takes the next step in his game
If the argument is, who is a better player, Rempe, or Raddysh, the answer is Raddysh. 99% of the league is better at hockey than Rempe, and that’s being generous to Rempe. The argument you can possibly make is, who has more of an effect on the game, Rempe, or Raddysh. And that depends on what you value. 7 minutes of running around, hitting everything that moves, or 12 minutes of steady hockey. Being in the right spot. Trusted by your teammates.
It’s surprising to me the amount of controversy Rempe causes here. For years we have all cried for a guy like him, a guy who when he steps on the ice the opposition must take notice or find themselves wearing numerous ice bags after the game. And yet here we are…. several people not just here are saying we don’t anyone like that. Well, I like the kid and I believe he is the kind of sandpaper the Rangers need.
Weird. I can “like” the smiley face thing on any comment but it won’t change for Rich

Nvmd. Now it works since I posted
I’ve had a few oddities since the upgrade to the latest version of WP last week. Please post if any new issues pop up.
This is definitely an important camp/year for Rempe to show that he is more than just a bruiser. I think he can be – he certainly has the straight line speed – but needs to show it consistently.
This is what you value with Rempe in lineup
https://www.statmuse.com/nhl/ask/new-york-rangers-record-with-matt-rempe-in-lineup
They were 21, and 21 with Rempe in the lineup last season.
Apparently SMO was not to his liking so… he’s back!
General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the #Canucks have agreed to terms with F Vitali Kravtsov on a one-year, two-way contract.
Wow! Krap soft !
whose worst current contract for rangers based on $ and years
mika 5 years 8.5
jt 5 years 8
laffy 7 years 7.5
trocheck 4 years 5.6
fox 4 years 9.5
gavr 5 years 7
shesty 8 years 11.5
Wow Alex those are some #’s. The current albatross of the bunch is Mika with that contract. The rest will catch up soon.
Trocheck is a steal
3CP – Thanks for posting the article. It was a good one.
WIll the NHL follow?
https://nypost.com/2025/08/05/sports/nfl-bans-smelling-salts-ammonia-inhalants-ahead-of-2025-season/
Think the LaCoast and SlowFox contracts are the biggest risks followed by Zika. Though IDK, maybe 7.5 per is the new price for 45-50pts a season. With Fox, if he ain’t putting up assists, what good is he at that price?
Told the dog he better stop slacking off …
If that’s not AI than we are one step closer to Admiral Akbar needing to keed us in the real life Star Wars when they figure out how to militarize more like it. Ground drones made of nightmares.
Lead not keed typo
don’t know how Fox could be a bigger risk based on age and production when considering Meeka’s nosedive
Would imagine NHL follows
Needs to trickle down to high school while we are at it. See in at hs hockey now cause the kids see it on TV
And yes. iPhone autocorrect makes it seem like English is not my first language!!!
Both the Fox a nd Lafrenier contracts, have the potential to age very well. All the others listed will most likely age poorly.
Corporal, apparently it is legit and not AI generated. Check youtube for their Go2 Pro review by CNET which is lower end compared to the new A2.
We’re well ahead of the Zager and Evans curve!
Scary 😱 Beeze.
Ignorance is bliss.
Corporal – Well, now if you run into one you won’t be quite as freaked out…as long as they haven’t mounted a flame thrower on top 😱🤣
There is some, albeit slight, chance Igor’s contract ages well but the strike price is so high even just to get to fair value unless (i) the rest of the league goes crazy paying goalies too or (ii) Conn Smythe winner 🙂

not a big Cerny fan, repackaging some other guy’s comments on the podcast as blog article content, but decent color for august:
How Rangers top pick stood out at World Junior Summer Showcase: ‘assign him a job and he’ll get it done’
Jim Cerny
Updated: Aug 6, 2025
Malcolm Spence has an uphill climb to represent Canada at the 2026 World Junior Championship. But the New York Rangers top pick in this year’s NHL Draft made quite a positive impression at the World Junior Summer Showcase last week.
The 18-year-old forward certainly has a fan in Mike Morreale, the draft and prospects expert at NHL.com. Morreale believes Spence made a very strong case to be on the final 25-man roster for Canada come December.
“I think Spence has a real good shot to make this team,” Morreale told Forever Blueshirts on the RINK RAP podcast. “Twenty-five of the invites were first-round picks by Team Canada at the Summer Showcase. There’s a lot of talent here. But I think Spence has that advantage of being that versatile player that can play all types of roles and that’s going to be to his benefit.”
Morreale makes a good and valid point. Spence can play up and down the lineup, is engaged and physical, and prides himself on being a complete 200-foot player. He also has experience on the penalty kill and power play.
So, there’s more to him than the 32 goals and 73 points he totaled in 65 games with Erie of the OHL last season. Though that’s not a bad place to start, of course.
“He’s someone you can assign him a job and he’ll get it done,” Morreale stated.
“If you are versatile and can play different roles on the team, if you can scale a lineup, if you can play both power play and PK and the coach can throw you out there the last minute-and-a-half, last minute of a game … that’s a huge benefit to a player. Spence is that type of guy. So, there is no doubt that Canada’s managerial team is looking into that kind of ability that Spence has.”
“I love this pick by the Rangers, to get Spence in the second round. I had Spence going in the first round in that 20-32 range. So, for the Rangers to get him in the second round of the ’25 draft I thought was outstanding,” Morreale said. “Love the pick of Spence here. He’s going to be a solid pro in the near future.”
Morreale believes that Spence could be a top-six forward for Canada at the WJC, though projections cast the youngster in a bottom-six role due to all of the talent on the roster. In the NHL, Morreale sees Spence as second- or third-line player, the type winning teams covet.
“He plays that pro-style game. He attacks North-South, works the wall. Offense is driven by quick touches and off-puck anticipation,” Morreale explained. “He’s not an overly physical player, but he competes in all three zones to earn those touches with the puck and earn that time and space.”
Morreale said that many scouts told him ahead of the draft that Spence reminded them of Gabriel Landeskog, the Colorado Avalanche captain, 2022 Stanley Cup winner, and nine-time 20+-goal scorer. Not as skilled, but similar player.
“They see a similar skill set to that of Gabriel Landeskog and how Landeskog drives the play and how Landeskog has no fear when he gets in front of the net and doing the dirty work to help his team score some goals.”
But Spence has more directly ahead of him than thinking about being the next Gabe Landeskog. He’s looking to add muscle to his frame and improve his all-around game as a freshman at the University of Michigan this season. A good start this fall could be the final touch by Spence to convince coach Dale Hunter and Co. to put him on Canada’s roster for the 2026 WJC in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul.
“He’s definitely got a good chance.”
Spence stood out in Canada’s intrasquad game to begin the showcase, largely due to his high compete level. That continued with a roughing minor against Finland in his next game. He picked up an assist against Sweden and finished the showcase with a goal in Canada’s 6-2 win against the United States on Saturday.
The Rangers landed Spence in the second round, No. 43 overall, of the draft. He’s big (6-foot-1, 190 pounds), strong, skilled, and is a leader. He was an alternate captain as part of Erie’s leadership group last season, when Rangers center prospect Carey Terrance was captain.
The longer Spence stays away from the Rangers development coaches, the better off he will be.
ORF: its a petting zoo if the bear says it is 🤣
Morreale gushes; me blushes. Who’s he talking about, Sid Crosby? Useless drivel. Too many hockey “experts.”

More info or more of that stuff Aaron Rodgers takes in the off season? 🤣 If the latter, we can nominate you to be official NYR shaman!
Hahahah
anyone know when training camp opens. I was thinking right after Labor day.
Nice article on Hockey Rumors about NY Rangers salary cap situation. Pretty spot on.
We need something to distract us form the collapse of the Yankees and Mets. The Rangers will play the to rookie games against the Flyers as they have dome in recent years.
https://www.nhl.com/flyers/news/flyers-announce-2025-rookie-series-dates
Those games will be on 9/12 and 13. The rookie camp is likely to be a few days before those games and everyone will arrive at camp after them.
That is the two rookie games… as they have done in recent years. Sorry for the typos.
wwpd
cullye didn’t want a long term deal. players have a say in these things too
Thanks Alex for explaining that to me 😉 That doesn’t make it good for the Rangers. Do you know what Drury was offering for more term? Or did Gagner just say “my client says there is no price high enough for more years?” Perchance.
wwpd
lots of rumors on guys wanting short terms to bet on themselves. they’re counting on cap going up so easier to get a bigger number going forward.
even with a mcdavid there’s talk he wants no more than 4 years.
with rangers especially you’ll never know the numbers bandied about.
What’s up, kids?! I’m back! Just returned from a short (seven-night) family getaway to the stunning South Carolina! We spent our time at Folly Beach. What a fantastic vacation destination! Charleston, which is only about 25 minutes away by car, has become my new favorite city in America (after Brooklyn, of course ;D)! It’s a beautiful historic city with a rich past. The lowcountry cuisine is incredible, the southern folks are lovely, and the vibe is so relaxed! The kids had a blast! We had a great time too! I highly recommend it if you haven’t been yet. No need for those fancy European vacations! Everything you need is right here in the good ol’ USA!
Charleston is a delight, sumptuous to the eye.
…and their women’s Prison tour is especially titillating.
tit·il·lat·ing… lol
Did they make a movie about that prison?

Why do I get the sense that Coos knows someone in that womens prison? 🤔

The carriage tour of the city well worth it
They better make it impossible for Conor McDavid to become anything but a Ranger. I don’t care who they trade, what they do, what they pay. He needs to come to NY.
McDavid will stay in edmonton on short term deal in my opinion. up to 4 years.
Ruhwedel is retiring
regarding McDavid
he wants a cup or 2. even with him this team is far from being a cup contender
the next gm has a lot of clean up from the Drury mess.
Sure he would like more money ..and a goaltender
Maybe McDavid’s wife likes the theater…or the Mets.
…same thing now that I think about it – tragedy and comedy combined.

Gerard Gallant has a new job coaching the Shanghai Dragons, who play home games in Russia.
Love how so many coaches go to Russia to continue in the game. I would think it would be very hard for some of us to move half way around the world to a place where we do not speak the language to continue to work. I guess he must be getting paid a good salary. Not for me at any price. Oh well One month till training camp.
Looking forward to camp. Would like to have seen Drury move one of Panarin, or Zibanejad, I addition to having moved Kreider. Refreshing look heading into camp. As is, this team is a boarder line playoff team. Going to be a struggle to get in. Looking at the roster, if they get in, finding someone to score goals is going to a challenge. Panarin, Miller and the snake, Trochek, are not known for their playoff prowess.

Corporal….that would be typical Ranger organization dumb. Surely would cost a first and probably much more and then he will get concussed and retire. Like everything they do it is a dollar short and a day late.
I hope it doesn’t happen. It would have been fine several years ago…not now.

how did pitt do with sully last few years.
also just like last year very likely that our division only gets 3 teams into playoffs.
Pitt didn’t have the players
Not on sully
Terrible goaltending
Aging core with minimal depth
No draft picks
Rangers are in a much better position
They paid the price to win with deadline trades. As they should.
This is rangers window. Add a couple key pieces at the deadline and our chance to win is as good as any
window has passed in my opinion. we have an aging core. few draft picks in recent years. some of youth been massively overhyped.
When was the last time Sully had a goalie
bread 34 in oct
mika will be 33 in april
jt miller will be 33 in march
trocheck 32
pitt hasn’t made playoffs since 2022
both teams traded a lot of picks during the window.

crosby, malkin and letang were younger than rangers guys now
so some have different definitions of windows for different teams
like i said, both teams traded too many picks
All opinions welcome
I’m taking glass half full approach
99% of time I’ll be wrong (2 cups since 1940)
But, I sure hope y’all root for me to be right! 😂
Rangers have hurricane shutters over the windows. A storm is on the horizon! This clown show as presently constructed ain’t winning no Stanley Cup. But hey, I’m optimistic that bobbyo will be optimistic.
Someone has to be Sunshine Pete !
bobbyo
I admire your positive outlook.
As they say at Sing-Sing, ‘more power to ya.’ 🙂
the future is also the now at center ice with vrizzled vets Mika, Jon Tanner, and Vinny locked in the next 4+ years as Alex pointed out, our top 3 centers by the 2029 trade deadline will be 35-36yo and then still another year of Mika+JT …best to enjoy what you can of the ride even if that means early playoff exits.
I’d say let’s see which if any ages gracefully into a bottom 6 leader and role player, but the NYR track record of creating/obtaining new young Centericemen isn’t so hot that I’d take that bet while we’re sitting around debating whether Edstrom could even one day play 3C…and future HOF Noah laba.. and so forth. Is Jack eichel still coming?
MSG reported reduced revenues and blamed it on Billy Joel ending his residency. No mention of Rangers missing the playoffs. A Joel concert must have made money for them than a playoff round.
Is Davy still in the Navy?
Low expectations leads to Ranger fan sanity!
Does the Sanity Clause ever come down the chimney at MSG?
For the optimists, there is money to be made!

…a shame he’s wasting his time on hockey when, as his Mom said, ‘He cudda been a Doctor.’
“My son Adam went to Harvard, and his brother Andrew is an investment banker”
‘My nephew the Bitcoin guy, is presently in jail, but he’s had movie offers.’
He works on Wual Street
Working at the jail is a riot—just yesterday, I witnessed a guy trying to multitask by gulping down a lithium battery while shoving a toothbrush up his rear! Never a dull moment!
Probably in the can for Assault &Battery. Dude obviously wasn’t Ultrabrite. Procedure probably nearly rectum.
There is a new post, this one will expire shortly.
