Good morning, boneheads!
Congratulations to Beezle! He won the contest last night. Two people ( Beezle and BobbyO ) predicted the score correctly, which I found pretty impressive considering most of the boneheads predicted their loss. So everyone who thought the Rangers would lose, eat your collective hearts out! 🙂
Beezle won by predicting Rangers shots 32 ( 33 ), BobbyO’s number was 29 ( 33 ).
Can both of you guys please email me at ilbster@yahoo.com
I hope you all listened to Kreider’s postgame interview last night. If not, go back to the end of previous post. Pretty impressive. That’s why we should all realize by now that they will not tank!
Waiting for Carp’s review in the Athletic.
UPDATE: Here is Carp’s game review

Post updated, Carp’s review is up.
This thing on?
How are we winning any of these games?
With aplomb, FG 😃
If they want to tank, they need to bench Kreider. It’s a different team with him in the lineup.
did the sensitive one play last night.
I officially don’t care anymore. If they’re good enough to win the games then fine. At least they aren’t mailing in their performance every night. Either they’ll attempt to trade up in the draft and/or Clark will screw up the pick anyhow so I’m done stressing it.
Btw- do you guys have any idea how expensive quartz counter tops are?
Obscene!
https://goo.gl/images/WGBseB
THE Kreider. That is all.
nice comeback and surprise especially after first 2 periods. Dumb penalty by Hornqvist let Rangers back in game and Pen defense looked a bit overwhelmed with Ranger speed in the 3rd not for good for them if they run into Leafs or Tampa in playoffs. Does anyone think that delay of penalty/penalty shot call would ever be made against the Pens?
Forgot to mention:Kreider=Monster!
And how about a one-timer by Buchnevich off of a Pionk pass on the first goal? No way the goalie could’ve controlled it. Shoot the puck, Buch!
It is bad enough having to listen to McGuire and Milbury but being forced to listen to Susan Sarandon turn a hockey game into a softcore pron was too much. I felt like I was watching a women’s tennis match with all of that grunting. If you want to put a Rangers fan in between the benches then at least put someone who knows hockey.
What NBC should have done was rotate in a few of the Boneheads. Now that would be MUST WATCH TV!
The thing I can’t figure out was where was the passion a couple of months ago? I know we beat up on Pittsburgh’s third string goalie, but in the past that would have been a guaranteed Rangers loss.
In a sense we should be happy because had the wheels not fallen off, the rebuild/retool/whatever would have been delayed a year.
quartz counter tops? Problem for James, Warren Buffett, and Bill Gates, not for me. 🙂
Andthony’s first sentence hits on the head the nail.
From what I’ve lately seen, lots of ‘contenders’ sure made a large mistake not getting in on the McDonagh. bidding.
THE is back!!
Coos laughing at me from the grill room at the Foot while others around him burn dollar bills for fun :p
I wish I saw this game just so I could see Georgiev stone Malkin
Including Minnesota, his home turf.
Gorgeous quartzed Malkin.
Benoit Allaire for head coach.
If a goalie alone intentionally knocks his own net off the moorings and the opposition has possession, he. should be forced to follow that net wherever it goes up to and until his team takes possession. If his helmet flies off when untouched, ditto.
1- that’s the kind of game Kreider is capable of that makes him so damn frustrating. That’s what he looked like in the ECF series against Washington a couple of years ago.
2- Has Hagelin played a game against us that he hasn’t scored in?
3- Milbury sounds like Ben Stein when the Rangers win in OT.
He’s such an obnoxious pos. Can’t even hide his disgust.
4- has anyone noticed that Kessel looks more like Ham Porter from Sandlot than the actual guy who played Ham Porter at this point?
I have a craving for S’mores now..
I prefer quartz of wine ugotz!
https://www.nhl.com/video/georgievs-save-on-a-penalty-shot/t-294016156/c-58902003
Hags averages about 10 goals per year, not enough to even prompt interest.
Lol James! Hey Kessel put the coookie down! He looks like he needs the sourh beach diet.
South Beach geez!
Hags owned every loose puck last night.
If you want a goal scorer, sign Mike Bossy.
If you want a tenacious forechecker, sign Hags.
Haze kept Malkin line off scoresheet would be funny if it was close to accurate; Hags is on that line and for those watching the game without blue tinted lenses, the Haze line was pinned in most of the night giving up one scoring chance after another if not for Georgie Porgie’s great play, it would have been much worse.
.
NYR found a goalie who can play and earns less than 8.5M and Zika learned to head to the cage when Jesus Kreider has the puck.
James,
Some more what?
Agree, SN.
Malkin with Hags and Hornquist were pretty dominant last night.
Crosby, however was fairly quiet.
@James: If it keeps the missus happy its worth every penny, no?
@Anthony: Or just pull some random from one of the few blue seats left. Though I would pay money to have Wicky there for a period
@Ilb: Thank you for the good news!
THE was in beast mode again. Post game comments were accurate, he needs to play that way every game. I think all the boneheads have to be really happy with the compete level the team is showing, even if they still struggle a bit defensively (with that oh so experienced group of blue liners).
Better yet, imagine Wicky between the glass and Norm in studio. Priceless!
Where’s Wicky anybody seen Wicky?
I vote for E3 and Headzo between the glass with Pierre!
Oh well. Guess we have to look forward to most likely battling for 6th-8th seed next year!! Pretty much a pipe dream that we can trade into the top 3 with our picks alone and (not that it would be a good idea) not sure any of our current prospects or young players would get the job done either as don’t think they have the projected ceiling of the top 3 in this draft. If edmn got the 4th or 5th they may take Brady and our highest 1st but odds are the players left won’t be worth that
St Pete Eli there was some video of Wicky in the pre-game thread yesterday….
I’ll take Bossy in a heartbeat even though he talks a little funny.
I am officially famous for 15 seconds. Rangers win, nice. THE Kreider, better. Your tweet appearing in a Carp game review, priceless.
James G.-
Ham Porter— hilarious!
They need to play Georgie at least two-thirds of the remaining games to really see if they have a back up goalie for next year. He looks so poised and calm. His positioning is great and he has stepped up to make big saves in big spots.
I am so conflicted, I had no problem seeing them losing in the third, but then wanted to see them win during the comeback… very entertaining to see.
Malkin with zero points, two shots. Best player in the league right now, nice job containing him by Hayes et al. Big minutes for him and Zucc and Spoon, well done. And a good night overall by the D-corps. The Pionk-Staal pairing in particular.
Stop with this Staal nonsense.
Still clinging to the Staal-hate, I see, regardless of how he plays. To each bonehead his own hate. It’s kind of our thing.
Yeah, and Pionk last night I think played his best game yet. His control of the puck in the overtime, too, set up the winning goal because of keeping possession.
Staal and Pionk had a shut down game last night…..spade a spade.
you’re killin’ me BDL 🙂
C3 thanks for the link. You always spoil me :p
I like Kovulchuk on a line with Kreider and Ziggy.
Staal? No hate, just disappointment. He’s paid. like Bobby Orr and plays like Colton Orr without the energy. I actually like the poor, lost soul based on his interviews. He’s a bad guy, D-wise, for the kids to emulate. Backs up, shuffleboards, can’t clear in front of the net, wanders all over the ice on offense and defense, gets a tiny bit physical only when jacked up by a forechecker. I’ve said it all over and over again. He is useful right now only by comparison to some of the other AHL talents we ice.
Pisses me off when grown up nitwits use the term ‘hate.’ Get a grip.
Playing Staal with Pionk the rest of the way is the smart move.
It will increase the possibility of trading him during the summer.
Malkinstein Line; 1G, 9 SOGs, 16 total shots
.
Malkin 2 SOGs, Shot total – 2
Hornquist 7 SOGs, Shot total – 9
Hagelin 1G, 2 SOGs, Shot total – 5
Buch, Namestoolong, Kovulchuk. – The. Kremlin Gremlin
What is miraculous is NY won that game with a 4th line of drivel and 3 AHL Dmen. That said, Pitts has some AHL Dmen as well.
I’m on the can.
JT Miller : 5 goals, 4 assists in 7 games for TB.
Fire AV at season end!!!
Papabear – as long as Pierre didn’t kiss me in the mouth, I’d be happy to be between the benches along with Headzo. Of course, if he wants to kiss Headzo on the mouth it wouldn’t bother me….
Papa – it would be better if E3 broadcasted from the can while I rub Pee-airs bald with Walter’s mustard
^head
Headzo – they’d definitely need a can between the benches. It’d be tricky tho, cause I’m shy.
E3 – I’d allow it but he’d have to call me Sidney.
Headzo said head
E3 we’ll just throw a red wig on you & Pee-air will protect you
I’ll just sit back and watch. I’m a peeping e3
Ooooollliiieeeee Maaaattaaaaa!
I’m really shy. But the red wig would work.
SN – people want to go to game on Saturday.
What we need. What we need…is solidarity. Solidarity.
Michael Rose had a hose, horn he blows, Marchand’s nose, ebbs and flows, johns and hos, these and those, yes and nos, Jonathan Toes, grass grows, oh my woes, larry’s, curley’s, and Moe’s

E3 – Happy (Belated) Pie-eyed Day.
Susan Sarandon like her sausage sweet and plump.
Sarandon’s daughter is mad hot.
Amuses me when grownups disingenuously claim they don’t understand commonly used expressions.
Papa – I’ve a mamba, right here…
SN – a few PI days years ago, a colleague and I had a transcendental number math off. I took PI, he took e. I destroyed him. And when finished, I dropped a boyeeeeeeeeee on the audience.
Triple c – word
And the Buchnevich video of him giving his stick to a kid wearing his Russian jersey is just awesome.
Sarandon’s daughter reinforces my belief in biology and the ‘natural’ sciences.
Pretty good coverage on the Hagelin goal, particularly Skjei, who resisted the urge to leave the slot and chase.
Sproul pestering Hags pretty well, but that was a super-softie by the otherwise excellent Georgy. I was surprised to read Hornqvist had 7 SOG, so I checked: 5 shots, unless there’s an updated box score. Still too many, but not at Zibanejad level with 9-count’em-9! The big story was his line eating up Crosby’s, but I give credit to Hayes for helping contain a player twice as good as him. Good game plan by AV, well executed.
E3, belated pi day yesterday. And RIP Dr. Hawking.
Just watched the 3rd period again ( because it was fun). The Rangers and Pens both rolled 3 lines. The Hayes line did not match up with the Malkin line until there was 7:48 to go in the period. This only happened because for one shift, Pitt put out its 4th line. Nemestnikov line had been against Malkin. From that point the Hayes line went against the Malkin line 4 times. 3 of the times they were dominated. One resulting in a goal, and another the penalty shot. The only time AV purposely put them out there against that line was with 1:03 to go in the game.
tau > pi
Phi < e < pi
Norm – to you as well.
Dr. Hawking has entered the cosmos.
BDL – the whole game they were matched against them until AV decided to sit the black hole known as the 4th line after that line was being dominated by Pitts horrendous 4th line including dd being backed into the goal like a little puppy dog. Ironically, McCloed has been the best forward on that line for the past 3 or 4 games.
.
That the Malkin line did not score more was more due to some top notch goalie play and puck luck.
.
Advanced stats can provide insight into what actually happened in the game as any numb-nuts can look at a stat sheet and think Malkin didn’t score so the Haze line performed well. The box score lacks the color people avoid to fit a narrative.
cake > pi
SN – those sure ain’t no silicon chips on Sarandon Jr.
Make a circuit with me!!
Karen Haze should do some martial arts training. He plays scared. Must have been a late bloomer growth wise and was probably beaten up a lot in grade school.
For as many people that have a “Brief moment in time” in their bookcase, I bet not a one has actually finished reading it. I’ll wager it’s the “Tender is the Night” of Science literature. Whatever F. Scott was going through when he wrote that….must have been brutal.
Georgie Porgie is the logical successor to Hank. And he might even be prettier. Can you imagine the locker room drama when they both reach for the gel and hair spray at the same time?
E3 bite your tongue. In no way will that child ever be prettier than Shampoo Boy…
And then it was Malkin vs. Hayes 3 on 3 in OT. But credit to Names line for their three shifts vs. the Monster, and credit to Hayes for their 4 and their 1 vs. Crosby. Hayes played almost 9 minutes in the third, nice job.
Commonly used expressions are commonly used by common people.
Sittoo – Hank is beautiful for sure, but Georgie Porgie is easily a 10.
Fanfare for the Common Man
Watching the game can also provide insight into what happened. Advanced stats are a great effort, getting better, but there is not enough data yet for them to avoid their reliance on shot counts, for example, as proxies for too much stuff. Contrast to baseball, of course, and soccer, where each player is tracked as if by NASA.
At the beginning of last night’s game, the Rangers came back into their own zone with the puck about a hundred times until they were able to get the thing out safely. Their patience was admirable, I thought, and who knows what advanced stats would say about it. On the winning play, when Pionk cut back-and-forth with the puck behind his net, also about a hundred times, I was amazed–and he wasn’t even on the ice by the time Zibane scored, having skated Letang into the cement and on to the bench. Can’t stat that.
Too often, Norm is FOS. Goes without saying,
LeTang skated to the bench so as to be closer to Pierre. Camera caught them kissing on the mouth.
Not much more ironic than men in white-tie and women in black gowns playing a fanfare for the common man.
the Stones live album “love you live” opens with an intro of fireworks and drums followed by Fanfare of the Common Man into Honkey Tonk Woman….amazing intro
But you thought you’d say it anyway. Nothing incurs the wrath of the bonehead more than having his hate-narrative countered.
Norm captivated by nitwit teenage verbiage. Everyone who disagrees with him is a ‘Hater.”
Kovalchuk? Are you’se guys nuts? How many 30 somethings with 7 million for 7 years and a NMC does it take for you to learn? You will be cursing his cap hit in two years, as he coasts off into the long, long sunset. Please don’t be stupid all your life. Learn from Sather’s mistakes.
Hi, coos. I’m right here, and thanks for those words in my mouth. But I’ll type slowly, so you can understand:
W h e n I s a y y o u “h a t e” S t a a l , i t ‘ s s h o r t f o r y o u “h a t i n g o n” S t a a l (w h i c h y o u d o l i k e i t ‘ s y o u r j o b).
Norman, norman, norman. Did you watch the game or just read the box score and watch the highlights? Haze’s line was pinned in more than Jodie Foster in the Accused. Then again, Zucc as your wing man isn’t exactly Bob Gainey, but I digress…
.
Honestly feel bad for Haze who has Offensive chops; very poor man’s Joe Thorton without the Canadian pedigree and not willing to get dirty. Why on earth did they try to make him a defensive center, should have signed a more traditional 3C (instead of dd) to play against opponent’s top centers and allow Haze to improve and hopefully flourish in his offensive game. Haze seems like a guy who needs a lot of coaching, but sadly Lazy Unfair Elaine is not the coach to provide it.
.
Head scratcher for sure, but they are right because they get paid to make decisions and we just watch…
Hmm, turns out typing slowly did not make it easier to understand.
SN, I watched the game. A glorious game, I might add–terrific comeback win and not a night you’d expect people to use to illustrate how much Hayes, Zucc, Staal and AV suck. But as Carp recently pointed out–I don’t agree with him completely on this, by the way–every fan has to have a player to hate [on] no matter what. Keeps the blog alive, though, so I’m growing to appreciate it more even as I counter negativity that I think is misplaced or overdone.
Pointing out anothers views as extreme affords one the comfort of believing their views are a more sensible and moderate approach.
If you guys are crazy, I must be sane…
I killed all da people cause I was crazy
“Pointing out another’s views as extreme…” Agree 100% per cent, SN. Often, if I defend a member of today’s Flawed Four, I hear in response things like, “Norm thinks Zucc should be in the Hall of Fame” or “Norm thinks AV can do no wrong.”

Staal is overpaid. (Is he? I think so)

When his brother wore Blue, boneheads screamed in unison “this guy is washed up! Dont re-sign him”
Now that he’s good again, boneheads scream “It was AV’s fault!”
(Scratch my head)
…And the ride will rise..and the tide will fall…
Papa, I for one would have welcomed E Staal on a short term deal. Just not as a third line W…🤷🏻♂️
James, I’m going to check the record 😉
Agree completely, Papa. Whether I said so at the time, I don’t remember, but I was in the “this guy is washed up” camp. I was wrong.
Slatsko- I also agree completely with your 1:58 statement on Kovalchuk. Signing him would be a big mistake, in my view. The Rangers should know better.
Let’s look at the good.
This kid Pionk is playing as well as any Ranger 1st rounder has played in their first 20 games.
Who ever convinced Gorton to sign him should be promoted to Director of Amateur Scouting.
It would be good to see somebody do some actual probability analysis of this tank business. e3? As it stands, the Rangers will not get a 4-6 almost no matter what they do, so it’s all about the 9-18% shot at the top 3 (and the 2.7-6.7% shot at Dahlin).
Two years ago, the 1-3 picks went to the 1st, 6th and 4th seeds. Last year they went to the 5th, 13th(!) and 8th. So when and if the 7th seed, say, wins Dahlin this year, folks here and elsewhere will scream bloody murder that the Rangers should have tanked harder. And the fans of the 6th seed will complain they tanked a little too hard. It’s out of the Rangers’ control, has been for a while. So why not try to win, among other things because you have fans at the game paying their hard-earned in hopes of seeing just that.
Papa, DO NOT look at the good. You counter-culture bastage.
As for the counter-Kovie cabal…..
“You play to WIN THE GAME!”
I’m part of that cabal. Terrific player who is highly unlikely to reach anything close to his more youthful production.
Norm – my wife would probably be better looking at probability. The work I did with it was when I looked at stochastic Diffential Equations. Her background is much deeper. Pose me your problem and nonetheless.
Zucc still sux
Perhaps after the semester ends I’ll look at the question posed to me.
My 3:34 should read “the ONLY work I did with probability was when I looked at stochastic differential equations”
That’s fine Papa but no BANJing while you’re there!
And yes, Zucc still sux
not going well for the Gaels right now
If the Rangers get in, I expect a deep run
Slatsko, I imagine (am pretty sure) that they would only sign Kovalchuk short-term, and that the AAV would be moot. would be a very low-risk gamble that could help them compete while rebuilding.
While all this analysis is taking place maybe someone can check on the odds of the Devils getting Nico last year, the probability that Dallas could acquire someone like Seguin in a trade, the odds of Pittsburgh winning two Cups back to back or being in a position to get Malkin and then Crosby the year after. All those things have happened so I’d like to see if it’s statisticslly possible to fathom the idea that despite the small percentages perhaps it’s worth it for a franchise that hasn’t had a first round pick in years to benefit from having a top five pick.
Also can someone tell me exactly how much butter you can eat in your late thirties before your heart explodes? Please and thank you.
E3 trying to bring back the less fond memories of grad skool.
But I have really, really terrific news to report: IT IS STILL SNOWING!!! With more expected through tomorrow afternoon.
Please no to Kovalchunks it would be doing the same thing as years past expecting different results. Stay with the program!
Beezle – nerdish posters are the best posters, yes?
No snow here but it’s quite chilly. Mid 50’s and cloudy…
James – having run several double blind tests, it’s all for naught as the tester could feel the warm soft butter and the testee could taste it. Bottom line. Butter bad
E3, not sure if this will work but should answer your question:
$latex i\hbar\frac{\partial}{\partial t}\left|\Psi(t)\right>=H\left|\Psi(t)\right>$
Schrödinger! Having college flashbacks. Not good ones.
e3, the problem is too broad, I suspect, analyzing the tradeoff between playing to win vs. improving draft odds. The latter is quantifiable but not the former.
Sigh t
Kovalchuk on a short deal would be completely different than anything they’ve done in the past. It makes a lot of sense to me.
If/when they deal Topo, who is their top offensive forward?
exactly.
Beezle – we should instead root for the Edminton Eulers

The better musical: Hamiltonian Dynamical systems or Chaotical dynamical systems?
Listening to URI-Oklahoma hoops on the way home today (no idea why, but I was). So this kid Fats Russell is a star in URI’s OT win. Throughout the OT, the color guy — former player, but I already forgot who — is going on and on about how Fats Russell is now his favorite player because he loves the name, even though the kid’s not fat. After the game they interview Fats. The same analyst starts his question with, “I’m gonna tell you, you’re my new favorite player. I love your name, and you’re not fat! … But I’m not gonna ask you how you got that nickname. …”
Are you kidding me?
Screw you Hagelin!
Lol Alex. So Hag’s thinks they played like the NYR. But honestly, there was no wake up call at 2-1? 2-2? 3-2? 3-3? Usually when a team takes the other for granted they are on the short end of the score for much, if not all, of the game.
Have to say SN’s reference at 2:08 to the Haze line “being pinned more than Jodie Foster in The Accused” is not funny.
It’s tone deaf and immediately makes me question any judgment SN wants to render.

We can agree to disagree Carp. I think Gorton will find a better option than a 35 yr old Russian winger.
WBOTI infected by college hoops. Blech, I say! Let’s get this thing re-oriented:
Princeton at Cornell
North Dakota at St. Cloud St.
Robert Morris at Mercyhurst
Boston University at Boston College
Harvard at Clarkson
Minnesota Duluth at Denver
Providence at Northeastern
Air Force at Canisius
If Harvard loses, does Donato go straight to the Bruins? Hughes already there. That kind of thing.
Carp @ 4:16….. some heads here get their undies all bunched because they’re so wrapped around the axle of “the rebuild plan” of ute, use and more utes.
Pick up Kovy for cap space on a fair deal? This would be the type of low risk / high reward move the Rangers should absolutely make.
Think of Kovy playing on the RW with Kreider and Ziggy in place of Fast. Anyone who says no to that because of $6M of cap space is coo-coo.
Makes perfect sense if the scouts think he’ll be any good at 34.

We’ll accept intelligent broads.

Wait, isn’t it Saturday?
Susan O’O’O’Sarandan. I confess I enjoyed that cameo more than I should have. I appreciate that she likes the same team as I do, but next time give the lady a script and let her do what she does best.
I wonder what Hagelin thinks about the pens opposition tonight, the canadiens, considering the pens are down 2-0 early in the 1st, pens peaking at the right time.
Kreider may not put up as many points Carp, but consider him a better and definitely a more valuable forward from a trade perspective than Zuc. So if they trade Zuc they still have Kreider.
—
If they aren’t really trying to rebuild Kovalchuk makes some sense, but even then only on a 2 yr deal at most. If they actually want to try and build through the draft Kovalchuk makes no sense.
Kovalchuk is not coming to the Rangers for a 2 year 6mil contract. He’s coming back for a long term deal from someone. He walked away from 70 mil, he’s going to want a nice bite of that back. Sad thing is, the Rangers would give it to him. There’s close to 20 years of precedence says he’ll get a big payday from NYR.
It’s the Sather Way
If money all he cared about he would have never left the Devils and not like he was playing for peanuts in Russia, he makes north of $5m/yr over there I believe and god knows what the tax regime is like so may actually keep more of it. In any event, don’t see anyone giving him a deal longer than 3 or 4 years and don’t think the Rangers go that long for meaningful money unless they are planning on just walking away from some of their RFAs
Read all the way to the bottom.
While golfing, I took a quick turn to avoid hitting a big chuck hole,
and accidentally overturned my golf cart.
A very beautiful and attractive woman, who lived right there on the
edge of the golf course heard the noise, came running out of her villa
and shouted, “Are you okay?”
As I looked up I noticed she was wearing only a silky see-through bath
robe which was partially open, revealing what appeared to be a VERY
nice figure.
“I’m okay, I think,” I replied as I pulled myself out from under the
twisted cart.
She said, “Please follow me to my villa so I can clean and bandage
that nasty scrape on your head, then you can rest a while, and I’ll
help you upright the cart later.”
“That’s mighty nice of you,” I answered, “but I don’t think my wife
will like me doing that!”
“Oh, come on now,” she insisted. “We need to see if you have any more
scrapes and treat them if so.” Well, after all, she was really pretty
and very, very persuasive.
Being sort of shaken and weak, I finally agreed, but repeated, “I’m
sure my wife won’t like this.”
We walked to her place just a 100 yards away, and after a couple of
Scotch and waters and the bandaging, I thanked her and said, “I feel a
lot better now, but I know my wife is going to be really upset, so I’d
better go now.”
“Don’t be silly!” she said with a smile, letting her robe fall even
more open. “Stay for a while. She won’t know anything, and by the way,
where is she?”
I replied, “Still under the cart, I guess.”
Slatsko, I have two worlds to sum up the hot topic of the day:
Kovochulko Folkyerself
I’m perfectly willing to wait and see just what Kovy signs for if he comes to NY. But don’t say no one will give him a deal more than 3-4 years as long as Stogypuss is alive.
Gee I didn’t know the family had Russian relatives!
Anybody watching the Black Hawks? They are giving lessons on how to tank.
Brooklyn too Slatsko
I don’t disagree, Pete. … but Kreider has yet to actually do that. I think he will.

brooks on kovalchuk
Brooks on drugs.
Brooksie is a big Kovalchuk fan. Never had a bad word to say about him. I think he’ll be good. But he’s no spring chicken. He’s had knee injuries. A back spasm thing. I don’t know. Plus he’s gonna have a bullseye on his back by every male Canadian Cheap Shot artist in the nhl over that anthem snub thing. I just don’t think he’ll stay healthy. He’s still talented as ever. But he’s banged up it seems. He’s done interviews this year and he was mentioning being hurt a lot that season.
He could use the chance to play with a good center that’s for sure Carp. Maybe on his next team!!
Zucc’s output replaced by Butch, esp at even strength
.
Kreider is the anti-Zucc, showed last night the beast mode.
.
Pee-onk most impressive play was Indian leg wrestling Geno along the boards. Very smart with puck. Good thing he was in Hartford this season..
.
Gilmour’s luster started to fade. Sproul and O’Gara are AHL fodder.
If I’m Garth Snow and I want to entice Tavares to stay, I’m firing myself.
I hope Garth snow is the GM of the islanders for another 10 years.
Sadaharu O’Oh
McKreider
Must be time to sell high on Pionk
Milbury praises him in post game. May be this kids pinnacle
I really hated the continued reference calling serandon a “super fan”. She only knew 2 players names on the rangers in the past 10 years. The only names she could reference were the jerseys in the rafters that played in 94
Reminiscent of John Kerry who claimed to be a lifelong Red Sox fan and was asked by a reporter (at a game he attended at Fenway when he ran for President) who his favorite players were and he replied, “David Ramirez and Manny Ortiz.”
Adam Messier and Brian Graves.
Is Larry Brooks Kovalchuk’s new agent?
Bruins fans figuring out that with Nash, the book is better than the movie
Meanwhile, we’ll be spooning all night long
It’s simple. Brooks likes Kovalchuk and thinks the Rangers should sign him so he’s pumping it up like a fluffer. Not the first time he’s done that stuff
SN that’s on point about Pionk – why the hell were Smith Holden and even Kampfer at times getting top four minutes on a weak defense while this kid was with the Pack all year? Then Gorton banishes 2/3 of those guys and Pionk is getting 20 minutes a night not looking out of place.
It’s either a hell of a coincidence or the coach had to be saved from his veteran heavy self.
Sorry if that’s too “AVsux” for some of the posters here but that’s all factual🤷🏻♂️
It will certainly be interesting to see who this organization brings in over the summer and who will be coaching that group of players.
Blogger mania was quoting Bob McKenzie (not sure how accurately) and BM seems to think they may very well fill holes with veterans. Whether that means Kovalchuko Folkyerself I do not know
McD – Pionk
Staal – Holden/Tony D.
Shea – Shatty
should have been where they started the season.
The glaring error was not tearing it down last summer and also signing Shatty. The rebuild ‘on the fly’ approach attempted to create a bridge between the present and future, but the brass would have been better off moving pieces over summer and building a respectable bottom 6 to keep opponent’s honest.
.
The top 12 approach is just a fantasy; dd, the Dutchman, Pumps, etc etc; are former top 6 guys who couldn’t cut it for whatever reason (age, skill) and NYR brings them in and sticks them into a role reserved for the Bran Boyle or Dom Moore type (or Boo Nieves)
.
Making Haze into a defensive center was another head scratcher. If the idea was to deflate his point totals to sign him to a more agreeable deal, mission accomplished. They took a potential 50-60 pt center (and Step replacement right down to the slow skating) and played him against top line centers which slowed his offensive development.
I don’t think Kampfer was playing top 4 minutes and he was also a frequent healthy scratch so I think he should be out of the anti AV narrative. Pionk would never be put in the same role as Kampfer was.
I also think that Pionk was well served by getting development time in the ahl (a development league)
One never knows if Pionk needed that time, just that he played very well since coming up and Hartford was having a tire fire of a season.
Brooksie is a Devils fan…that being said would sign Kovalchuk if the price and term was right …would look good on powerplay
SN
I could buy the we shouldn’t have signed Shatty part (especially since i’m not a fan) but I think we got more for the pieces we traded at the deadline than if we tried to do so over the previous summer. Certainly the ufas, notably Nash.
So the rebuild was done in 2 parts. A big part will be how Andersson fares going forward, as well as, how well we draft with our own picks as well as those recently traded for.
I know he wasn’t mentioned but the Miller – namestoolong part of the McD deal should have been omitted.
Our organization has been starved for prospects for quite some time. Hartford’s season has generally ended in early to mid Aptil, after 76 games.
Well if Pionk couldn’t displace Kampfer, Holden etc at the start of the season those 4 months in Hartford clearly were what he needed as he’s been a revelation in both ends of the ice and not a one-dimensional guy like he was in preseason.
The boneheads are not in the habit of watching all the Wolfpack games so really none of us have a clue on how much Pionk (or Gilmour) needed their time in the AHL. I’m going to err on the side of they probably did.
On Gilmour, I really like the kids wheels and he’s not afraid to shoot. NYR need to get him appropriate coaching on improving his defending but I think it foolish to not give this kid a better look next season. Scarlet might be a servicable 7th, again lets see what they are able to do with him over the summer and in camp.
Kovy can stay right where he is. Same goes for Nash. Should be clear to mgt. that some of these players needed to step out of the shadows and bringing either of those two in just puts the team right back where it was. No thanks, I’ll endure the ups and downs of baby blue shirts learning the ropes.
I think the reason Brooks is pumping up the Kovalchuk talk is mostly because it’s very likely to happen. Been saying it for a while myself. Short-term deal, money’s not really an issue, low-risk gamble.
Pionk is amazing, great find, kudos to scouts, Hartford coaches, NY coaches and, most of all, Pionk. It’s always down to the player to make the most of his opportunity, which he now done.
Now, if Kovalchuk wants more than one or two years, bye, bye Ilya.
