NY Rangers (5-7-2) vs Florida Panthers (4-7-1)
Our boys are looking to extend their winning streak to season high three games. Can they keep their composure and continue their commitment to defense first approach against a much less successful opponent than the previous two? We will find out very soon.
Looks like the same 6 D-men and Paul Carey is replacing David Desharnais, so DD along with Smith are prucha’d.
What prompted AV to sit DD last game, who is now also scratched, remains a mystery to me. Desharnais has been a rare pleasant surprise to date.
If anyone wants to do a review tomorrow morning, email it to me anytime at ilbster@yahoo.com

LGR!!!!
Really LGR!!!
LNGP!
Fairly certain we win this one tonight.
LGR! Do this for me behind the net and surrounded by Panther fans!
Not if the Panthers score a greater percentage of the goals.
This view is insane.

Stuck with MSG coverage, frantically looking for a Panthers feed… actually learned something, though. Not what Ron explained (that hockey players, apparently, look for each other on the ice) but from Steve, who let us know the Rangers are the top odd-man rushing team in the league. Also, does Duguay get Cherry’s jacket rejects?
The. New. York. Rangers.
Don’t watch the Panthers feed, Norm. Potvin sucks! At color commentating too.
Potvin. Sucks.
This game could be more telling than the Tampa game. You expected the compete level to up in that one. Can they avoid a let down?
Anything’s better than Joe. Likeable guy, but I just can’t listen to him any more, and anyway I like to dabble, see how out-of-towners view the team. No opinion about the Panthers guys yet, but I found one!
Ooh, they have Yandle miked up. That should be…something.
He just said Buch has a flu…lol. and DD is playing.
Boo has the flu, not Booch
Boo, not Buch
In all fairness, Buchnevich, Boo Nieves, and Bob Nevin are all the same person, just different nationalities.
Bougner, not Beukeboom
LGR !!!
Trust me…Potvin is the absolute worst color guy. He’s like the anti John Davidson.
Anybody see me yet? Lol
Ev, have you heard Craig Laughlin?
Is he the deep-voiced monotone guy? Whoever it is is preaching dump-chase-pucks-to-the-net. Sounds grumpy.
Laughlin (Caps commentator) sounds like he is talking while pinching his nose. Does Geico hockey commercials.
Yeah, Laughlin gets my vote. Plus at least Potvin was, you know, Potvin. Kinda knows what he’s talking about.
Yeah, Romeo…Potvin is worse. Laughlin’s voice is more annoying but he’s not as much of an idiot as Potvin is. Trust me, I’ve been hearing him for years now.
Carp, he actually really doesn’t. He’s horrible. Nobody here likes him. Just the owners.
Can I throw Bob Errey in (or out) too?
OK, I trust you. But I know Potvin from way back when, and he was great with me when I interviewed him for my Messier book, so I jumped to a conclusion.
But Laughlin is awful
Yandle still very leakey on D
High-pitched guy wanted an interference call against Desharnais on that offside. What the…?
Who’s High Pitch?
Potvin is a homer. Obviously knows his hockey…but still….
If Potvin is the low voice of the two, he’s been good tonight so far–knows what he’s talking about is an apt way to put it. Staying tuned for whatever the bad stuff is.
I have the MSG feed, and I’m ok with that.
from newsday
Derek Stepan and Antti Raanta are playing in Arizona; Oscar Lindberg is in Vegas. Dan Girardi’s loving life in Tampa.
Here’s how some other Rangers from last season’s roster are faring:
Kevin Klein. After retiring from the NHL, the defenseman is putting up points with Zurich of the Swiss League: 6-5-11 in 18 games.
Tanner Glass. After signing a one-year contract with the Flames, he’s pointless in seven games, with one fight.
Adam Clendening. The Coyotes defenseman cleared waivers on Friday and was assigned to Tucson.
Brandon Pirri. In three games with the Chicago Wolves, the Golden Knights’ AHL affiliate, he has a goal and three assists.
Marek Hrivik. With Stockton, Calgary’s AHL affiliate, Hrivik is 3-5-8 in seven games.
I don’t think Potvin has a low voice, Norm.
Potvin has the annoying voice lol
Well, one guy’s voice is lower than the other’s, whom I’ll call Sqeaky. The latter climbs out of his underpants every time the Panthers get a shot on net from the point. I shudder to think his high note will be when/if they actually score. It’s not a pairing I’d want to hear very often, that’s for sure.
So nobody saw me yet? Lol
There seems to be a very large number of rangers jerseys in South Florida.
Carp, Potvin’s a nice guy. I’ve met him too. But on the broadcast he is a super homer and doesn’t understand today’s game as much as the game from his playing days. Also, the way Davidson used to see things nobody else does, Potvin sees things that aren’t there.
always, Dan
I’m actually surprised at the number of vacated seats. I had 3 seats but the other people couldn’t make it so I sold those. They went quickly too, so I’m surprised at the emptiness.
Steve Goldstein is the high-pitched one, I believe. They just gave us Yandle’s miked-up edits from the 1st. At one point, we hear him yell, “Leave it, leave it, leave it,” to Luongo, who does so behind the net, and Yandle skates off, “Thank you.” Outstanding! Also, very cheerlead-y on the bench, which I read he was with the Rangers. Guy can still pass, I notice, in addition to his very good manners.
the lightning enjoyed themselves off the ice the year they won the cup
Ev, they probably get there in time for the nightly shootout.
Potvin, the low-tenor monotone, talking up the importance of the D’s first pass in the second period when the guys are more tired.
Time to light the lamp and crank up the Dillyometer!
You knew that was coming
Absolutely expected for the last 5 minute…
Carey sucks
Carey sucks
Staal playing the role of spectator
Rangers playing 2010 Luongo tonight
Must get back to defending first. Fixes a lot of problems.
DD plays pretty well tonight. I don’t know what beef AV has with him…
EV had almost as good a view of that Florida goal as the Rangers standing around in front did.
DeHarmles was in La maison du chien for the 3rd in Tampa
It’s OK that Marc Staal doesn’t defend, because he comes from a very nice family.
Has Luongo made a save yet?
Basically untested Carp
Nothing difficult, Carp.
Holden is a good hockey player again
Have the Rangers faced a struggling goaltender yet with the exception of that kid debuting for Arizona?
Of course that happened at the other end of the ice. Smh
Trade Holden! Softie, but good patience by Fast, good pass by McD.
They played Vegas’ 4th string goalie Romeo
Catcher used to be THE most prolific Dman last season, BTW.
Potvin has always sounded like an antique dealer from Greenwich Village.
LOL! EV. Live long enough and the Rangers will hose you every way possible.
Not that theres anything wrong with that, coos.
Escapes me – WHY Rangers need to let opposition score, before they start to play aggressively.
Whew, for a minute there I thought Nash had drawn a penalty.
Nash just cannot finish
Thanks Kern, I guess I was trying point that virtually every opposing goalie seems to ‘keep his team in the game’ according to JoeMich
Nash just cannot finish.
That PP was pathetic.
Skjei – 2 strikes in 10 seconds… Way to observants bench.
Nothing like a power play to kill the momentum (I know Carp, there’s no such thing as momentum)
Holden scores and some Rangers fans would prefer to still be down 1-0 🙂
# 18 hits the net twice in a period.
Might be our night.
Sam Rosen with the Molly Cyrus streak of gold going through (actually above) his Kiwi shoe polish yamulke flat top. Doesn’t look a day over 375.
These guys suck in front of Lundqvist
Joe Mich: “Vesey doesn’t take anything!” What a nitwit.
Yuk
Thanks Kevin
My goodness Shattenkirk blows!!!!What a waste of cap space.
Shattenkirk is a righthanded Yandle
Shatty coughs up the pass, starts the ball rolling, finishes the play by losing out on the last rebound. Rangers have owned the play this period, Panthers the scoreboard. Mistakes.
Brendan Smith gets benched by the pacifist coach because he plays too rough in front of Henrik. The Rangers play powder puff hockey twice in front of him and the puck enters the net twice.
That’s quite amazing… All stars – Statty, Hank …May I go and watch something like Stupidest Animals World or else..
Correct Norm
Staal gives up all semblance of defense, looks for unassisted goals.
Brilliant Buch
Peewee players know not to play with a broken stick. Wtf
Besides the fact that he can’t score, Rick Nash is a really good hockey player
Joe couldn’t say that Miller made a bonehead play
Darren DregerVerified account @DarrenDreger
I’ve heard of 2 options Col was considering in 3 way trade. 1) 4 picks and a prospect (high picks). 2) two prospects and a 1st and 3rd.
Shattenkirk is good again
Kevin taketh and Kevin giveth.
Shatty giveth!
Amnesty for Shatty? Interesting, that semi-empty and smaller BB&T Center produce much more noise that MSG.
Dilly Dilly
JT Millah = Monster
Potvin calling that puck luck. Miller with a nice play minutes after coughing up a 2 on 1.
Hey EV….that was at the other end too.
Now fans would prefer to be down 2-0 lol.
Shatty’s game very similar to Yandle
Vibin’ Boyle-arms!
That’s five straight periods of good hockey by the Rangers. Kreider their best forward tonight. Lots of guys playing well.
I think VZ gets that goal.
I think this game is going to OT
Shatty shoots more than Yandle, but, is less physical. Never wins a battle in front of net.
Not sure Yandle was ever that physical
Is Holden working a Movember ‘stache? Makes me think of Crosby’s. *Shudder*.
And a do-see-do, and away we go
Norm this mic’d up Yandle bit on the Florida feed is hysterical. And Potvin really does …
Missed first half of 2nd watching end of Oklahoma game. Seems they are making it hard on themselves again. Turnovers etc. HL seems to be giving up some juicy rebounds again too. At least even into third
Giants need to get that Mayfield kid whatever way they can.
Just passed an old guy in a Prucha jersey….
I caught a little of the homer stuff evrock was talking about, especially on the “lucky” Shatty goal. But he goes the other way at times–Shatty and Yandle reminding him of Leetch? In that they all three use skates, I guess. Both guys are good offensive Ds, but c’mon.
Kern, there is most definitely momentum, and momentum changes, within games. There is most definitely zero momentum from game to game in a playoff series.
These refs on the panther’s payroll?
The only 2 faceoff violations I’ve seen this year were on the Rangers. Conspiracy?
I’m really down on the face off violation call…
Unless it goes in our favor
There you go EV
Grabner stole the goalie’s shorts there
Couch
…Ouch?
Dandy finish, better keep in and pass.
Oh boy
That was one of the ugliest goals I’ve ever seen.
Fast having an overall good night, though a mixed bag for Line 4.
30 has to find that puck
Lundqvist caught day dreaming what he was going to do after the game, puke.
This one on Hank, no doubt…
Deflected.
Gone is the time when we had full confidence in our goalie to close out a game
Off a Ranger stick at the point.
Those petty plays (short passes) on PP is not working, never does.
Now, that’s how it’s supposed to be!
Dilly, Dilly!!!
That goal is Nash’s. He tipped it.
Don’t think Nash touched it
Now I want to see my team’s killing instinct. Go for jugular!
A great tip.
Bad McDonagh tries to shoot wide for a tip there. Good McDonagh one-times it on goal. Good tip by Nash.
Everyone’s yelling Papa John’s sucks.
haha Ev
Short, quick passes don’t work on PP? Sarcasm I assume.
The shootout is coming.
To me on slowmo didn’t look like it changed direction but SalmeJoe got it changed.
There is no such a thing as an “almost a penalty”…
Vegas Golden KnightsVerified account @GoldenKnights
By winning our ninth game today, we officially passed the 1974-75 Washington Capitals on the all-time wins list.
WE PASSED SOMEONE🙌
Nash tipped it. Absolutely
No shootout, Carp. No. Just…no.
Good to see a puck go in the net for Nash. He deserves more the way he’s played
https://twitter.com/nhldrafter/status/926968539897982977
81 and 83 in 21 and under
Love this JT Miller
Nash on the PK has worked his tail off.
Where’s Wicky? He doesn’t get cable in his igloo?
Not Lundqvist’s beast game….
Best
can you believe it.
6 on 5 again.
Yllid Yllid
Ludquist is unbelievable – his favorite short side upper. Bljad’
Playing the Rangers? Pull the goalie..get a goal.
Now THAT’s on Hank. Great shot, but short side. Hold this point!
Can’t trust the guy anymore
Never Hank’s bad on the call.
Good shot…..bad goal
Easily winnable game are killed by the former savior…Shame.
I predicted #OT bur was hoping for just a win in regulation after all come back goals
Henrik keeping that sub .910 save % alive.
Skjei’s stick looked to help elevate that, but Hank needs to stop that.
Hank and luongo are 2 goalies AV played mind games with. I hope they both win a cup without him
Pulling 1 point from the jaws of 2.
Uh oh
Three strong periods, good road point, hope for two.
Wonder if AV has record for winning tgen play prevent go to OT just to ower tire his players.
Nightmares from stanley cup games. Famuliar
Lickity Split
We have now 50 present goalie (2 out of 4 is his unforgivable) – below average… How can we keep any hope?
Big Time Amnesty!!!!
Yahtzee!!!!!
Phew. The King is gonna thank his courtiers for saving his ass in that one…
Capt. Kirk with the photon torpedo!
No shootout, Carp. Sorry to disappoint. Lol
A no 1 pizza and Greasy Nick’s for everyone!
figures shattenkirk scores 2 goals after I knock him, par for the course.
Extenze AV !
Actually a good looking 2-on-1.
Good road game?
There we go. nice snipe by #22.
good pass by nash
we needed that
Evrockriser, could you see the goal or was your view blocked by hanks cup?! 😉
AV played mind games with Lundqvist? LOL
Perfectly executed 2 on 1. Great first pass by Shatty and a rare pure assist for Nash, whose had himself a game.
Nash, Fast, and Grabner for me, though plenty of good performances to choose from. Kreider was really good for two, went a little walkabout in the third. Miller, Shatty, Desharnais. Great game for the fans!
That shot could break concrete!!
AV mind f–ked Hank?? That’s precious!
3 in a row, I’ll take it.
From trade-everyone, fire AV to 1 point out of the wildcard. Road warri0rs.
Maybe Shatty will be better playing Center?
Miller, Nash & Shatty (in that order)
Good sign that the big boys are scoring goals. Nash, Shatty, Grabner and Thursday Miller and Kreider.
I like it. Still don’t think they’re good.
November champions?
Wicky’s not allowed to violate Wicky’s Rule, no commenting after the game if you didn’t comment during the game. IKEED-IKEED-IKEED!
Wicky has been digging out since 1am Friday morning 🙂
Next three games are against Bob, Bruins and Boy Wonder. Let’s see how they do with that challenge
Seems they play better away from the wives and girl friends.
Dying to know which player has wives.
and girl friends
they play better, not he plays better
I posted just before the game. Then once more after the game. I accept the fact that I have zero credibility in Wicky’s eyes.
Miller, Nash, Shat, yes.
Hank a bit fed-up with Giannone and let it be known.
Giannone can be sometimes sandpaperish to players, but I congratulate him on diligently doing his job for us.
AV answers questions by stating the obvious (plays in the game from memory.) Expert at beating around the bush. Wish someone would call him on it.
Nor sure how you call him on it. He’s not on a witness stand, right hand on a bible.
Though the left hand is working on the wedgie quite often.
But when he makes an obvious fool of the Press (and us) over and over again, it’s time to force some real answers or complain about it at least.
Did you think so Coos? I thought he was being funny. He knew he was gonna get the question, but since they won he didn’t seem to mind. Kinda like Miracle Max in the Princess Bride “thank you so much for bringing that up. Why don’t you squeeze a little lemon juice in my paper cut while you’re at it…”
Saw the game but wasn’t able to comment until now. Didn’t think they would win this but they pulled it out. It seems like whenever I slam Nash he comes through, probably should do it more often. Hope Ev & Kevin had a blast! Now it’s Torts and his boys next. The Hated One had a pretty good game. Trade Holden now!!!
Presume you’re referring to Hank, Sittoo. I would go along with your take, but John Giannone has a history of (politely) asking the tough questions and not being awed by celebrity.
Can you imagine in your wildest dreams any of our Dmen treating someone in front of our net like Nash was treated? He is more abused with no penalty more than anyone I ever saw on ice.
miller great outlet pass
